4.0 von 5 Sternen Good reference on German recon
This book, more so than the other New Vanguard books (in my opinion), focuses on the employment of the German armored reconnaissance units, more so than on the hardware involved, unlike, say, Zaloga's dissection of the T-34 in the relevant New Vanguard books. The book is a very good reference, marred only by some so-so color art, and a must for anyone interested in...

First the worst: the illustrations in this book are a disappointment. No profiles at all - rather, armoured cars are illustrated in "lifelike" illustrations by what seems like coloured crayons and in a quality that looks like the artist is a young enthusiast picked from a school contest.

Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: German Armoured Cars and Reconnaissance Half-Tracks 1939-45 (New Vanguard, Band 29) (Taschenbuch)
First the worst: the illustrations in this book are a disappointment. No profiles at all - rather, armoured cars are illustrated in "lifelike" illustrations by what seems like coloured crayons and in a quality that looks like the artist is a young enthusiast picked from a school contest.
The notable exception is the title illustration, which is included as a 2-page cutaway in the book and is from a different artist (Jim Laurier) - and can be obtained separately, as we are told in the acknowledgements.

The text is reasonably informative, with too much emphasis on describing missions (with full dialogues! could we skip that please and get some more hard information instead?). German being my native language, I cringed every time a piece of equipment was spelt wrongly, and I cringed often. If you cannot spell "Schützenpanzerwagen" or "Schwerer Panzerspähwagen", don't write a book about them!

In summary, I should have got the centrefold and skipped the book. And no, you cannot remove it from the book without damaging it.
