4.0 von 5 Sternen Very Informative
I found this book to be very informative. I agree with the other reviewer that Prunier sticks to the facts but that's not always a bad thing. If you saw him on the Frontline documentary Valentina's Nightmare, you will see that he is not unemotional about the genocide. He points out the irony, and misguidedness of the world finally reacting by setting up refugee camps...

Though the cold hard facts are present, I found a lack of passion towards what Mr. Prunier was writting about. He may have felt compassion towards the estimated 1,000 brutally murdered people, but he did not express it in his words. For practically the whole book you learn about the politics involved but not the people, the real people. The lack of enthusiasm and...

4.0 von 5 Sternen Very Informative, 24. Mai 2000
I found this book to be very informative. I agree with the other reviewer that Prunier sticks to the facts but that's not always a bad thing. If you saw him on the Frontline documentary Valentina's Nightmare, you will see that he is not unemotional about the genocide. He points out the irony, and misguidedness of the world finally reacting by setting up refugee camps to feed the killlers. He clearly is affected by the genocide. After reading the Gouretivch book on Rwanda I felt I needed more information, more history, etc. on Rwanda and this book provided it. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the genocide. It is not easy to read, because the subject matter is so disturbing, but it is informative.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Necessary read on the Rwanda genocide, 16. Juni 2013
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Rwanda Crisis: History of a Genocide (Taschenbuch)
Probably the best background read to understand the rwanda Genocide. Yes, it might at times be dry, but Prunier's analysis is throrough. Though Gourevitch (referred to in another review) writes good stories on what really happened to people, Gourevitch clearly did not have the background knowledge. Prunier is able to put the conclict in its historic perspective.

Though the cold hard facts are present, I found a lack of passion towards what Mr. Prunier was writting about. He may have felt compassion towards the estimated 1,000 brutally murdered people, but he did not express it in his words. For practically the whole book you learn about the politics involved but not the people, the real people. The lack of enthusiasm and compassion make this book dry and uninteresting towards the younger audience. Mr. Prunier is a very good author but he needs to show, in words, his feelings, not the cold hard facts. NOT everything is as black and white as some may see it to be.
