Rezension bezieht sich auf: Trad Dads, Dirty Boppers and Free Fusioneers: British Jazz, 1960-75 (Popular Music History) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
Generally, Duncan Heining has produced a very thorough study of the British jazz scene during the period he covers. Of the three styles of jazz implied by the title, he tends to concentrate on the latter and a large part of the book is devoted to the development of the "free form" or "free improvisation" during the latter part of the sixties. I would have also liked to know a little more about the work of those musicians who continued working in the more conventional styles because, despite not necessarily contributing anything startlingly new, they were still part of an active scene.

What I didn't expect was the way Duncan Heining introduced a strongly political interpretation of the those developments in jazz which he describes. Admittedly this can't be ignored as many of the musicians were politically active but, at times, it tended to be rather dry and dusty. So - definitely a book worth reading but be prepared.
