We had ordered guides from 2 other publishers from UK which did not arrive in time. Not wanting to duplicate these we chose the Lonely Planet as a download on the day we set off to Slovenia to have at least one guide. We had a 7 hour journey to 'leaf through' it but found this was incredibly long-winded and frustrating as we literally had to load each page after the other and, unlike a book, had no idea what topic would be on the next page. Pages have no headings so you don't know what section you're in without moving forwards or backwards through a random number of screen changes. Sometimes there's a Top of Section to help you restart your search.
The Table of Contents is no use at all - it lists
SLOVENIA COVER (shown on start up on the Kindle app)
HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE (a page explaining basics and advertising different types of guides). Using the search field can bring up pages of thumbnails where the keyword appears, each marked as a Location running into a four figure number, without actually giving you the information searched for, e.g. entering "Skocjan caves" produces no results while "caves" produces 153 tiles with the word cave in from Location 43 to 9487, this is a lot of text to wade through to find one that opens a paragraph where you can click to reach the main page on the Skocjan caves. If you choose the wrong tile, the back button does not return to the search results, instead you have to re-enter your search details.
SLOVENIA MAP (explaining that the maps could not be viewed on all e-readers and so best to download them before the trip as a .pdf or print them out - not many of us have roaming data or carry printers on holiday). Our tablet could not zoom on any of the maps and they were all so small that they were illegible
PLAN YOUR TRIP This book is best used as an outline planning tool rather than a guide as there is minimum detail on each entry with very few pictures and maps too small to read.
ON THE ROAD is probably the most useful section since the main sights are listed under headings at the beginning with a small amount of basic information on each. Here at least the 'back button' does work to help navigation.
UNDERSTAND SLOVENIA is a very simple two pages on the history, passions and icons of the country
SURVIVAL GUIDE a glossary explaining money changing, post, laundry facilities, etc.
BEHIND THE SCENES two pages of credits
OUR WRITERS as much or more information on each author than on the history of Slovenia or most of the attractions.

All in all, a very 'thin' portrayal compared with the Cadogan or Dorling Kindersley Guides we usually use, with this e-version being extremely cumbersome to use, giving a totally disjointed experience of reading a guidebook.

We consider the book very expensive as a second-rate substitute for the information that could be picked up in hotels and the Tourist Offices. It needed internet access to view some of the information, in which case one might as well "Google" the local sites or maps. The Tourist Offices in Slovenia are numerous, extremely helpful and very well stocked with maps, guides, tour info, food and wine leaflets. We'll definitely be going to the country again but probably won't ever struggle to use this guide again.

So, far, no complaints, its another of lonely planet tour guides, so far lonely planet has never disappointed me. Again a comprehensive tour guide, written and described to the last detail.

I'll come back and update my review once after my trip.

Great resource for planning our holiday in Slovenia. I like the tips and tricks and breaking down the country into manageable regions for planning.
