I bought this and "The Period Book" when my daughter started menstruating at the ripe old age of 9. She just turned 9 a couple of months ago, and I hadn't planned on talking to her about her period until this summer. We read the books together and she much prefers this one! For some reason, she doesn't find the pictures embarrassing, she's told me. And I particularly like the way this book explains what's happening to her body like with underarm hair and shaving. I didn't have those kinds of explainations when I had the talk!

This was a great book for any girl who's embarrassed or confused about that stuff. It cleared a lot of things up for me. Not only did it tell exactly what to expect, such as your period and b.o., but in it you can read how to take care of yourself. Another good thing about it was the fact that the author seemed to understand exactly what we're feeling! If you're really embarrassed about talking about the subject, this book is a great teacher. I reccommend it to girls ages eight or nine to early teen years.

This book has so much about a young girls body; inside and out. It has very thorough "articles" about: the basic facts of your body, hair care, ears, eyes, mouth, braces, face, acne, sun burns, hands, underarms, breasts, bras, food, nutrition, eating disorders, Pubic area, periods, legs, feet, fitness, sports safety, rest, sleep troubles, feelings, the whole you, and more!!! This book has EVERYTHING a preteen girl will ever need to know about her own unique body. Buy this book, you won't regret it!!!

I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter not really realizing the content of the book. she carries it everywhere she goes and asks lots of questions. This book really helps her realize the importance of taking care of yourself, and explains in simple terms the changes that are going on in her body. This book has been a real lifesaver. I highly recommend it for anyone who may have trouble talking to their kids about growing up. Thanks American Girls---not just dolls anymore!!!!!

This has to be the best book on the market for girls from ages 8 years and older. It fully explains, in plain language, the changes that their bodies are going through, as well as personal hygiene and respect for themselves, without putting a scare into them. I would highly recommend this book for schools to distribute to female students beginning from third grade and above.
