After reading several reviews about the "classic" What to Expect When You Are Expecting that said it made many women worry, I decided to look for something else and read lots of positive reviews about the Mayo Clinic Guide. I got it and have never looked back. It is a wonderful reference book with a week-by-week description of what goes on with your baby, and month-by-month description of what symptoms you can expect, and I also found the table at the end of every month chapter extremely helpful. There various troublesome symptoms are listed (spotting, heavier bleeding, vomiting, etc) and it says when to contact your doctor (next visit, same day, or immediately).
In the back there is also a great reference section for looking up individual symptoms and often there are suggestions for finding relief from them. There is are sections on birth, both vaginal and c-sections, breastfeeding, birth control after birth, and complications that can occur during pregnancy. I have really found this book to be both a great source for information about what's going on with my baby and myself as well as a reassurance when I've gotten worrying symptoms.
I have gone to Labor and Delivery twice for problems because my Mayo Clinic book said to do so, and both times the doctors there found nothing wrong (thankfully) but told me that I was absolutely correct in coming and if those symptoms came again then I would have to come back.
In short, I recommend this book with no reservations and really wish they had a corresponding guide for the first few years of your child's life!
