What a fantastic book. Ms. Davidson is a marvel -- her adventure, the risks, her fearlessness at the most frightenting moments, the evolution we see her go through -- this is so much more than a simple travelogue. I love books that transport me and this one surely did and more than that made me feel like I found a great friend. I wonder what her next adventure will...

I'm sorry I didn't read the reviews on Amazon as I just right now saw someone had also given this book 1 star and a great justification for it. I did the same - read the "blob" and expected a wild adventure. Well, not so. Perhaps it's not a bad book for someone looking to read about Aborigines people and their problems, etc, but that's not what I expected based on...

I love books that transport me and this one surely did and more than that made me feel like I found a great friend. I wonder what her next adventure will be...I wonder how she could ever return to society after her transformation in the desert. This is a book to share with friends -- but make sure they give it back, you'll want to keep this on your bookshelf with your other favorite books. A word to the wise: be prepared to dream of sand and wake up thirsty if this is your bedtime reading!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Stregth, 4. September 2009
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Tracks (Taschenbuch)
Tracks is a fantastic book. I am on the move to live in Australia together with my 2 children and the closer the time drawed the more nervous and insecure i became. During my holidays i read this book and it gave me strenth. Strength to keep going, to live my dream and to be sure all will be as it should and will.
Robyn Davidson describes her living of a dream so realistic and clear that it made me feel, what is possible. She not only describes the beauty of the country in words, which made me live within it again, she also describes the sorrow, the hard times, fears and doubts very clear. I could feel how she must have felt and because of the radical description of the hard and difficult times she went through, her description of beauty comes up even more wonderful and dreamlike.
It is a true story, written truely. And after i finished, i knew my aim again. Feel strong now to continue. If you have a dream, go and live it. From 100 steps the first step is the hardest- you have to go it alone, the left over 99 ones are made by cosmos. Thank you to Robyn Davidson.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Inspiring -- really!, 12. Januar 2000
Von Ein Kunde
It's a cliche to call books "inspiring," but this one really is -- not because Robyn Davidson is heroic, but because (as she points out repeatedly) she's an ordinary woman from a rather sheltered background, but with extraordinary determination, persistence, and resourcefulness. To her, the meaning of her journey is that anyone can achieve whatever they want to. But, she tellingly points out, many of the reporters who dogged her steps portrayed her as crazy because that blunted her message -- which, if women took it seriously, would rock the foundations of society. She's completely frank about her feelings, her doubts about her journey, and the excuses she makes to herself when she's tempted to quit; but, to me, this made her accomplishment even greater because she was fighting herself as well as external obstacles. The internal journey she underwent was as important as the external one, and those readers who complain that there's too much of the former and not enough of the latter are, I think, completely missing the point of the book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Truly inspiring, 22. April 1997
Von Ein Kunde
I first read of Robyn Davidson's solo trek across
the Outback in the May 1978 edition of National
Geographic in which it first appeared. As a new
college graduate, I was about to embark upon my
own solo journey towards responsibility and
adulthood, and I found this young woman's courage
and sense of adventure to be truly awe inspiring.
Nearly twenty years later I happened upon Tracks
in the bookstore, and reading Robyn's complete
behind the scenes story was like rediscovering an
old friend. It's a stunningly beautiful tale that
I look forward to reading again and again. I was
also able to "track" down From Alice to Ocean,
the photographic companion journal, and it
contains some of the most beautiful photography
I've seen.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Every woman should read this book, 22. Oktober 1998
Von Ein Kunde
Every woman should read this book because it is a model for what a woman is capable of doing. Often we do not realize what we are able to do until we are put (or subject ourselves) into a situation which tests us. Not only is this book interesting in the detailing stereotypes of Australian men, the wonder of the Outback and demystifying the aboriginies, it shows you an every day woman's spirit and instinct for survival. I read this book while in a 4 wheel drive truck going from Alice Springs to Perth in Australia. It was incredible to look up to rest my eyes from reading and see the landscape I was just reading about.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Quite simply, my favorite book of all time, 16. Juni 1998
I first discovered Tracks during the boring period of my life, when I was a bank manager. Since then, my whole life has changed, and with Robyn Davidson as inspiration, I am much more of an adventuress. What I like best about this book is the soulful, brave way Robyn shares her inner journey...her attitudinal shifts, the way in which she sheds the trappings and conventions of society for something more real, a life lived closer to the bone. It's a must-read on a number of levels...I still re-read it once a year just to remind myself that there are places left to travel and inner realms to be explored.

5.0 von 5 Sternen My Bible!, 24. August 1998
Von Ein Kunde
I first read "Tracks" when I was living and working with camels in Alice Springs. My first reaction was that it was the book I wish I could have written! This book helped me through a very rough period - becoming a sole parent. The loneliness, despair and frustration through parts of the book mirrored my own feelings at the time. I now refer to my experience as my "camel trip". Read it more than once!

5.0 von 5 Sternen inspiring, motivating, 11. Juni 1998
Robyn Davidson has the courage that all woman (and men) covet. She has gotten to know herself more than most people ever dream. Her tenacity is incredible. I am inspired to finally take my own solo trips and look forward to reconnecting with myself and nature and not be so focused on the material, commercial, capitolistic society we get sucked into. It is a journey of simplicity and passion and finding peace within yourself.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Tracks von Robyn Davidson, 26. Oktober 2014
