1.0 von 5 Sternen "Being" is an anti-concept
This is not a self-help book, it is a rationalization for living a lazy, unconscious lifestyle. Jon Kabat raves about the power of "being" but never really explains what being is. His only definition for being is not doing. But to not do is simply an anti-concept devoid of meaning like God (not man), heaven (not Earth), etc. If you come upon a problem, Mr...

5.0 von 5 Sternen A gentle, secular guide to Being Here Now, 18. September 1996
Von Ein Kunde
If you have ever wondered about meditaion and its possible
benefits to your hectic life, but have been put off
by its mystical, religious or paranormal associations
in the popular culture, author Jon Kabat-Zin offers a
gentle, secular introduction to the art of Being Here Now.
"Now" is the present moment in which, with mindfulness, we
can act with volition and not automaticity; to not simply
react robotically, but break the cause-and-effect chain of
external and internal stimuli. "Now" is where we can become
authentically ourselves, and marshal our full potential.
But focusing in the "Now", being aware without reacting,
without abstractly analyzing, takes practice. Kabat-Zin
shows us how to find our "Now" in the sensation of our
breathing, either during meditation practice or in a
mindful pause just before a meal. Then he shows us how
to carry mindfulnes into the activity of our daily lives,
so that we may find ourselves naturally proceding along
"The Way". Throughout, Kabat-Zin's narrative and personal
references are totally credible, evoking a surprisingly
accessible intimacy with the reader. You will enjoy and
benefit from this book even if you never sit on a pillow
to meditate, but you will gain even more if you do.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Mut zum Englischen/ Vertiefung durch Wiederholung, 10. November 2011

Januar 2003
Von Ein Kunde
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
I am a psychotherapist (MD)in a special hospital for psychotrauma (war, sexual...). In addition to psychodrama, "normal" grouptherapy and hypnotherapy we work with this book and with Exercises from L. LeShans book `Cancer as a turning point`(as bibliotherapy)- and have a very goog resonance. Especially our bi-lingual patients (american-german) have a great effort. A good book! I recommend it to all patients.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Practical Introduction to Mindfullness Meditation, 11. Mai 2000
Von
I enjoyed the book as it provided a "non-cluttered" approach to adding meditation to our everyday lives without getting caught up in all the various theologies, etc that are often a part of such instruction.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Most nurturing book I've read in the last twenty five years., 20. August 1999
Von
R. Robinson "Ralpho" (Minneapolis, MN USA) - Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen
(REAL NAME)
This book is poetry in motion. Pick it up, read a chapter and let it soak into your being for days or a week. Something to savor and covet! Kabat-Zinn has collected wisdom through the ages and presented it in a simple, logical and comprehensive manner so that you know, they are all saying the same thing. If we had but ears to hear! I have probably given thirty copies of this book to friends, perhaps the highest compliment I can give it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent, 13. Januar 2013
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life (Rough Cut) (Taschenbuch)
This is a really straight forward and easy to use book. Simple explainations. I felt good just reading it and then went on to buy meditation cd from the same author. Both are excellent.

5.0 von 5 Sternen More than pleasantly surprised, 20. September 1999
Von Ein Kunde
A family member bought this book. I found it sitting on a shelf, glanced at the cover and involuntarily thought to myself "uh oh, granola time," and came within a heartbeat of dismissing the book out of hand. Luckily, I did not. Instead, I read the introduction, and then found myself -- almost in a state of disbelief -- reading on and on. I was amazed to find that the book is not just one more new age book muttering away about a world none of us really lives in. To the contrary, the book is written by someone with a profound understanding of everyday reality, who is astonishingly good at sharing that understanding. This is simply a beautiful little book, beautifully written. I would be curious to know if others are reacting to this book the way I am: I feel compelled to rave about it. I read the book for the first time weeks ago, yet tonight in the grocery store I found myself slowing down, marvelling at the sight of my daughter gaily picking out tomatoes, and consciously basking in the moment. And I'm a middle-aged Republican, not particularly predisposed to spiritual impulses! The author of this book has something timeless and important to impart, and he does so with unusual intelligence and grace. I really like this book -- indeed, I hope I'm forgiven for suspecting that it is a work of genius. I also hope that the author happens to read this review, because he should know how much his work is appreciated!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Not A Directive To Hide, 7. Oktober 1999
Von Ein Kunde
So far as I can tell, the author never directs the reader to "hide away" from problems or to "pretend that they do not exist." To the contrary, he invites us to observe everyday reality more mindfully and deliberatively than we otherwise might. And "problems," as well as our own recognizable reactions to them, are sometimes part of the observable reality at any particular moment. It is interesting, however, that by following the author's suggestions it seems to become easier to differentiate between a troubling reality and our own angered and fearful reactions to it (which are certainly real enough in their effects upon us). The author doesn't urge us to wear blinders; instead, he provides an unusually well-crafted and sometimes moving presentation of some valuable ideas that tend to make us much more aware, not less so.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting, insightful *and* useful, 17. Juni 1997
Von Ein Kunde
This book definitely has a lot to offer. Whether
you currently meditate, used to, or never even
considered trying, there's something useful to
be found here. As another reviewer noted,
if you've avoided meditation because of its
religious or mystical associations, this is an
interesting, secular introduction to the practice.
Kabat-Zinn's writing style is clear,
polite, compassionate, and perhaps most importantly, accessible. You don't need vast sums
of cash, your own Zen rock garden, a year's supply of incense, or even necessarily this book (although the latter is definitely helpful) to do this. Can be read cover-to-cover, or piecemeal, depending on your preference/lifestyle/interest; each chapter is brief and to the point, with a nice humorous touch that suggests that life is far too much fun to get so worked up over.

5.0 von 5 Sternen NICKSTER HOLDEN SAYS 'TRUE CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SPIRIT&SOUL', 7. Januar 1998
Von Ein Kunde
EXCELLENT book with the perspective sorely needed today in our fast paced lives. Deeply and truthfully appreciative of the individual human spirit and needs, that need to be addressed in all of us caused by past and present life and personal experiences. This book shows how each individual how to find their own way to take the time we need to take for ourselves and to appreciate the humanity in others and ourselves. GREAT BOOK. A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE. ESPECIALLY PARENTS AND COUPLES. ACTUALLY....ANYONE. Can't say enough good things about the inspiration this book inspired in myself both by the writing and the quotes the author uses. Our society should be looking to share more of this book on a wider scale. This book is true "chicken soup for the spirit and soul."
