Forget the 1 and 2 star reviews from California and Australia (below) respectively. They obviously just don't get it even though Dr. Wiley has made it abundantly clear how you can go about determining your metabolic profile WITHOUT blood tests, and why his acid/alkaline classification subsumes all others currently being hawked by the popular food-mood-health gurus and talking heads. For heaven's sake, my 12 year-old daughter deciphered her profile after reading the book (which took her all of about 1 hour). How much simpler could Dr. Wiley have made it! Obviously not simple enough for some folks. Perhaps a cartoon version with 1 syllable words is the level of simplicity required by some folks.
At any rate, the fact that BioBalance Therapy has not been given the international name recognition it richly deserves is the real tragedy here. Based upon 1st hand experience and statistics, this tragedy translates into a daily loss of countless lives, and the waste of billions of dollars in make-shift cures, psychotherapy, and other assorted superstitions and ritual mutilations. Who's to blame for this? Surely not Dr. Wiley who has selflessly dedicated the better part of his life thus far to uncovering the rigorous relationship between metabolic function on the one hand, and physical and mental health on the other. One can only blame the media, "the street" (aka the layperson seeking instantaneous enlightenment), and our educational system.
How so?
STRIKE 1! No, BioBalance Therapy cannot be described as "crisp," "trendy," "pert," "snappy," "hip," "sexy," etc., all terms used in describing the current entourage of the media's darling cash cows.
STRIKE 2! Similarly, while Dr. Wiley has succeeded admirably in making BioBalance Therapy comprehensible to a child, its simplicity to date still cannot be reduced to an inane sound-byte ("Don't worry! Be happy!") Alas, the public (i.e., "the street") with its increasingly limited attention span, must have it's sugar-coated sound-bytes. ("Guy, like 3 different metabolic types, each with its own diet! Like, guy, that's just so-o-o weird. Like gag me with a spoon!")
STRIKE 3! Our educational system has failed abysmally in training our young people to think either deductively or inductively. Most people don't even know the difference between the 2. Let's face it, if you manage to get through school without shooting a teacher or raping a guidance counselor, you'll get a passing grade. Don't befuddle youth's collective mind with logic, syllogisms, and inductive/decuctive thought. 1st and foremost, we want our young people to "feel good about themselves." Anything else is strictly superfluous.
Against such odds, any substantive advance in knowledge such as BioBalance is destined to failure, eclipsed by trendy sound-bytes hawked by the usual array of talk-show hosts, media personalities and talking heads, replete with crying women, and clever parlor tricks. I dread to think where we'd be today if Dr. Wiley's intellectual counterarts like Galileo, Newton and Einstein had lived in the pop-culture climate within which we find ourselves. Let me guess, we'd still be in the Dark Ages, living in what Dr. Carl Sagan called "The Demon Haunted World."
As Dr. Wiley so ably points out in his review, read the book, get well, then GET ANGRY!
P.S. Dr. Wiley's book deserves 6 stars, but I'm limited to 5 only.

5.0 von 5 Sternen My health improved dramatically after reading this book!, 5. Januar 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: BioBalance (Taschenbuch)
Until I read this book, I hurt from head to toe. I had fibromyalgia, hypoglycemia, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthralgias and mild depression. Since following the acidic biochemical type diet, I can control my hypoglycemia, depression and have no arthralgias and fibromyalgia symptoms. I have been following this diet for five months. When I deviate from this diet many undesirable symptoms return. Finding the correct diet for me involved trial and error. Three diets are explained in the book: an acidic, an alkaline and a mixed biochemical type. This book could be the key to your health. All that we hear today is, "Don't eat red meat!" Well, I need it and I eat it! Perhaps one of these diets could help you to feel better! Sonia Bouli

Any book that requires you to go get all these blood test is not very practical. Oh yes, like my HMO will go buy me the required blood testing equipment, NOT! The book may be great, however it will not help you unless you can get a doctor to give you a blood ph test that they normally don't test for. Plus, it is not just one test. You have to do about 4 blood test or more over a period of time to find your true ph balance. Maybe if you had some major problems you wouldn't mind all the test. However, if you just want some good practical advice on acid/alkaline balance, continue looking.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Book, A Must Read!, 5. Oktober 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: BioBalance (Taschenbuch)
This book is what I have been searching for. I have noticed a connection between the foods that I eat and my mood and my mental alertness. I could not find an exact pattern. Dr. Wiley spent 20 years of research to figure this out. Dr. Wiley isn't one who is easily persuaded by small amounts of evidence. He demands proof. This book is worth it weight in gold. Buy the book, take the pH test, change your diet, change your life!

5.0 von 5 Sternen At last! A meat and potatoes diet!, 15. Dezember 1998
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: BioBalance (Taschenbuch)
This diet finally explained to me how come I could eat a large plate of "healthy" food, and still feel like I "had to go eat something." It explains that there are meat eaters and non-meat-eaters (and why this is so), and helps you find what foods you should be eating to make you feel GREAT! My Mom loves this book too.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: BioBalance (Taschenbuch)
Dr. Wiley's work is obviously ahead of its time. His book explains clearly the cause of diet-related problems and makes solving them simple. This book is fascinating to read, and anyone who suffers from "mysterious" illnesses which medicine has not been able to cure will find a solution in Biobalance.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: BioBalance (Taschenbuch)
This is really a great book - a must read for people seriously interested in changing their lives! As for how Dr. Wiley arrived at which foods to eat, this is published in an earlier article which is obtainable. He has arrived at which foods to eat in a perfectly logical fashion.
