5.0 von 5 Sternen Winner! ALA GLBT Book Award (2000), 27. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Po Mans Child (Taschenbuch)
In 'Po Man's Child', Blackman skillfully interweaves three crucial days in the life of the protagonist Po, with a depiction of her earlier years and the family whose 'curse' she shares. This remarkable first novel, full of memorable characters, conveys both the despair of mean lives and the hope of human empowerment.

5.0 von 5 Sternen a must read for anyone intersted in the American family, 1. Oktober 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Po Mans Child (Taschenbuch)
This book broke my heart and throughout the proceeding chapters helped me mend it back together. I was completely absorbed and invested in every member of Po's family. I encourage anyone who is or has ever been a part of a family to read this book. If this debut work is any indication than Marci Blackman is on her way to being one of the most important novelists this country has produced. I cannot wait to read what she delivers next.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Blackman's "Po Man's Child" is an excellent read, 12. Juli 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Po Mans Child (Taschenbuch)
This book is wonderful. Ms. Blackman's prose are like poetry, and the complexity of the story builds and really draws you in. She paints her characters with colorful detail, and the language is so authentic you feel like you are part of the family in her story. While some may focus their attention on the two S/M scenes, this novel is really about one woman's healing, as she comes to terms with her life and history as an African American growing up in the seventies. This book will make you laugh, cry, and think.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Blackman will knock you out, 13. Mai 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Po Mans Child (Taschenbuch)
Blackman's first novel is a stunner.
The novel is about a whole family, and a supposed curse they each deal with individually. The story takes place over 30 years or so, flip flopping back and forth through time (with year headings in the chapter titles so you don't get confused) from one character's viewpoint.
The prose style is tight. This work has obviously been labored on many times over. The words flow smoothly and musically to your brain.
Very powerful. Good Job, Ms. Blackman.
