Accurate and brilliant, 29. März 2000
To put it bluntly: this is a cheap book with large full-color illustrations, printed on marvelous glossy paper, with a hard cover, easily read text, and accurately cited sources. All of the images look realistic, well-detailed, and overall very professional. In the back there is also a small portfolio of personal sketches in sepia.

If your looking for a good read this is the book for you, it includes splendid illustrations and tells about each creacher in great detail. Also this wonderfully composed book includes the source(book)from which each alien comes from.READ

BARLOW AT HIS BEST, 3. Oktober 1999

this book is terrific. the paintings, the text, all crisp,and imaginative. The pictures are quite lifelike and a great amount of effort was put into this wonderful book. My favorite, The Demon, is in my opinion done very well, as are the dirdir,pnume,and the pupeteer pictures, but all of the pictures are very good. If you love aliens/science fiction, i really recommend this book!

It'll knock your socks off!, 26. Mai 1999

What a great book! Barlowe is a wonderful painter of aliens. I have been looking for this book for years, ever since I saw it in a science magazine. Some of the best illustrations in the book are those of the "Cryer", the "Old One", the "Pnume", the "Medusan", the "Sirian", and the "Overlords". The only problem with this book is that the pictures make you want to read the books they are from, and 99% of these books are out-of-print! Urghhhhhh!!!!

Awesome. COOOL. A must get book that every sci-fi lover should have. It not only has pictures of the aliens but it tells its entire life!

A modern classic, 13. Oktober 1998
I first read this book when I was 10, and it freaked me out. It was one of the major reasons I began reading science fiction. This book can be reread endlessly without losing an ounce of wonder, for Barlowe's representations of alien anatomy are truly inspired. I constantly recommend this to my friends, and they are never disappointed, even the ones who can't stand sci-fi. Unfortunately, his paintings are much more interesting than some of the books they're taken from.

Barlowe May Be Right On, 6. April 1998
I bought this book when it first came out. I used it in my fifth grade classes before I retired in 1995. Fantastic art and imaginative captioning. If we do meet ET's they may match Barlowe'sideas.

This work was well ahead of its time., 26. März 1998

I bought this book back in 1981, the first printing. Fortunately, I still have the copy, since this book has become a classic of the genre. This book was and is a motivator of the imagination. For readers of SF, it was wonderful to know that there were people out there who dared to visualize what we could only picture in our minds back in the days before sophisticated computer graphics made science fiction images so simple to create, and exotic aliens so commonplace. Two of my favorites were the Guild Steersman and the Puppeteer, being a Herbert and a Niven fan. Barlowe and Summers deserve places as two of the great pioneers of SF.

The alien drawings were well designed. All the aliens had deep roots in science and were realistic.

Innovative, entertaining stuff, 28. Januar 1998

As a Middle School art teacher, I have found many students who are enthralled with this book. I must admit, I am also a great fan. It proves to be a valuable frame of reference to generate fantastic ideas for SciFi Art. I must now order the Fantasy book by Barlowe, and hope that it is as good as his first one.
