On the first look the story seems somewhat trivial: Young woman, potential heir to the throne, grows up in the wild after terrible accident. Brought back to home -> Tarzan in New York.

Firekeeper, the Tarzan in question, grows up with wolves and would very much prefer to be one. Being brought back in human society, though accompanied by her best "wolf-friend" to the consternation of those around, and probably being the long-lost heir to the aging king does complicate things. However, the plot is not about her problems in human society. It is a story about the power-struggle between the potential heirs of the childless king and of his and their ways of dealing with this situation. That Firekeeper is thrown into the confusion is part, but not the whole story.

It's fantasy with very well, and lovingly, described characters.

I randomly picked up this book in the store when I was hungering for something new on the fantasy front - and I was tremendously lucky. This book combines originiality in setting, world and character with in-depth character development, great dialogues, a wonderful, rich language and a nice and subtle sense of humour. Firekeeper and Blind Seer step off the page and are absolutely believable, the story is intriguing (especially the race for the throne discribed - you find yourself wondering and guessing whom King Tedric will choose in the end), and both action and slower, reflective scenes are very well written. I have only awarded four stars because I have already read the other books of the Firekeeper series and they are even better.
