The book does a good job of telling us how to do each exercise, and has some photos that demonstrate well, but it doesn't tell me how different exercises target the same muscles differently. For example, you wouldn't know from reading this book the difference between the tricep pressdown and the tricep kickback. It's important to know when you are trying to put...

I've been working out for about three months, and ordered thisbook last week. I'm kicking myself for not reading it earlier. Ifyou're anything like me, and the thought of lifting weights is totally intimidating (let alone in the public forum of a gym), then this is probably the book you want. Everything is outlined in the most basic terms: how to build strength and muscle tone with minimal risk of injury, how to design a program specific to your needs, and, most importantly, how to keep from looking like an idiot in front of everyone at the gym. Great book, seriously.

Nicely put together book. The authors cover each muscle group and then give several suggestions on how to exercise each group and then finaly on how to put together your entire routine.

The only fault that I found with this book is that the authors went over exercises that used gym equipment, not just free wieghts. This reduced the versatility of the book to those exercising at home.

Very good introduction to weight training. If you already work out with weights regularly, the amount of new information in it might not justify the price. Of particular help is the section on putting together excercise routines, showing several ays of designing a total body workout using different excercises for the same muscle groups.

then by all means pick this book up. However, if you know the basics then this book is all review. If you are serious about body building then the coventional training methods in this book are not going to make you Steve Austin overnight or even 3 years as they are becoming out dated. That is unless you take steroids. But new programs are being made and are more effective than the conventional exercises in this book. But for the beginning dummy, this book is just right.

This is a great book to get started weight training. It has lots of excercises, and tips on how to do them. It leads you through desiging a workout routine. My favorite part is a section at the end with suggested workouts for people who are really into different sports: in-line skating, etc.

I recommend this book for the begining weightlifter and i mean BEGINNING. Dont even think of buying this book if youve been at it for a while. It contains very simplistic and elementary information designed to help the BEGINNER.

as i jogged the bike paths of peachtree, i noticed that looking down at my chest and my arms i was weak. although no one was likely to jump me here, unlike in queens - i as a jewish doctor wanted to improve my chances. now i will admit i felt silly reading a book called "for dummies" however it did the trick to get me off to a great start. with drugs and nutrition this little jewish boy from NY now weighs 225! alright america!

This book explains the basics of weight training in enough depth to be useful, without assuming that everyone who starts lifting weights wants to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The book goes into good detail about an assortment of excercises for different parts of the body, as well as things to watch out for with each excersize, and has a good chapter on designing your own program. The pictures are of real people, not bulked up steroid cases, and the writing style is fun to read.
