5.0 von 5 Sternen An excellent encyclopedia - use it like any other reference
This is a wonderful refernce if you like to exercise using free weights and get bored with the same routine over and over again.
Every excerise you can think of is in here with big, clear photographs and detailed descriptions. Arnold uses the excercises to assemble basic through advanced workout plans that can be used strictly and aggressively, or simply as...

2.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting, outdated, will lead many down the wrong path
While the whole of the Arnold mythology is an interesting subject, as a training reference this book is questionable. The more I learn about lifting, the less I like this book. Arnold's success came from fabulous genetics, hard work, supreme self-confidence, steroids, and the behind-the-scenes assistance of Joe Weider. It wasn't from the two-hour workouts and...

2.0 von 5 Sternen intersting but out-dated,for only drug user, 14. Februar 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding: The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised (Taschenbuch)
It describes many bodypart traning exercises and contains history of bodybuilding that is intersting. But a great deal of information of the books is outdated and not based on scientific researchs and the exercise program is not suitable for normal health people but only for steroid drug users .Some exercises is easy to cause injury to tendon, ligament and joints. The book is no written in organised manner. I recommend customers not to follow the exercise program and some exercises such as shoulder press behind neck. This is only for reference. For bodybuilding and strength traing, I recommend the books titled A complete guide to strength training and A practical approach to strength traning.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding: The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised (Taschenbuch)
Ok it's not the bible, but it has renewed my desire to bodybuild. The book has three levels of exercise programs, three levels of diet programs, and some general diet advice. The book also has advice for competitions, and a considerable list of exercises (with pictures). There are also "Advanced" tips for bodybuilders, like "21's" for curls.... intense, but rewarding! I would recomend this book to anyone who is starting out, or those like me who are starting again. Some of the exercises may be outdated (which is why the book recomends reading the latest info; bodybuilding is a relatively new "sport"). It's relatively cheap for what could be the centerpiece of physical fitness during the rest of your life.

This book is an absolute must to buy. It is impossible to read this book and not get motivated to give your absolute all in the gym. He gives you a great overview and history of bodybuilding from the beginning and covers every aspect of bodybuilding in general. Great photos to get you inspired and motivated. It gives a good description and detailed pictures for just about all exercices that you can think of. The workout schedules are great in theory but are a little long but if you cut it in half or so, then it comes out right for someone not on steroids. Any one serious about bodybuilding should definitely buy this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Must have for anyone interested in bodybuilding on any level, 3. Dezember 1999
Von

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding: The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised (Taschenbuch)
This book has everything you need to know about all aspects of bodybuilding. It starts with basic recommendation and training techniques for the beginner and ends with posing for bodybuilding competitions. The book is well organized, so it is very hard to get lost. In the first few pages, you will find the history of bodybuilding, but following it are the actual programs and sets of exercises that you can use for every workout. There is a beginner program, advanced program, and competition program. Each program has 2 levels of training listing exercises most suitable for each level. If you are a beginner, you can start with level 1 of the beginner training and then eventually move up as you see results. Or you can just start with a level that you see fit for your current shape, as I did. After all the programs, you will find information on how to correctly perform each of the exercises listed in training programs, all with big illustrations (you will see a lot of inspiring pictures of famous bodybuilders). You will also find many different exercises that you can use to alternate your workouts, and also nutritional programs to go with your training. Nutritional programs are divided into different levels as well. I have never used anabolic steroids, and I have no problem performing exercises listed in the book. Some of them may be hard, but not in the beginner training. That's why you shouldn't start with advanced training unless you feel comfortable. I started seeing results after as little as 2 weeks after almost no progress for last half a year before I picked up this book. Arnold's training hits all muscle groups, and some that many people simply miss/disregard, but that are essential for building the best physique. You don't need steroids to do any of the exercises or to workout for 2 hours a day. In fact, I actually enjoy my every workout more than ever. It is hard to describe 800 page book in a few words, so there are a lot of things in there that I didn't even mention. You just have to see for yourself. I can't speak for everyone, but I definately recommend it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A positive review with a realistic critique, 1. Juli 1999
Von Ein Kunde
I seriously doubt anyone will read this, seeing as how in my estimation entries are listed in order of oldest to most current , but oh well what the heck. I am writing this mainly as a response to the harsh criticism of some of the readers of this book. I am a student of exercise physiology. Although I posess no degree my words are those of an educated person and I feel I have a lot to contribute to the evaluation of this book. Let me start by saying that this book is not meant for beginners in my opinion. I would say that on the whole the information presented is at least 95% accurate, and it is up to the educated bodybuilder to sift through the info that isn't It is simply unfair to say that the routines and exercises listed will not work on a steroid free bodybuilder. Although the routines are extremely taxing on the body and are not at all appropriate for a beginner, somes peoples bodies are in fact equipped to handle this type of stress. My body as an example is not. There are such great variations between the physiological response of one person as compared to another. For example, I know people who are able to train chest once every three days and achieve phenomenal results. On the other hand for me to train a bodypart such as chest more frequently than every five days results in serious overtraining and stagnation of muscle growth. To summarize, I would say that by using much of the info contained within this book, a person can construct several very useful workouts for themselves. The weider principles are not trash and when used with common sense and hard work can produce astonishing gains in muscle size, strength, and tone. This book provides very useful information even to the seasoned veteran of the discipline of bodybuilding. Although I do see some of the flaws and misinformaion pointed out by the other readers, I would still recomend it to anyone with a reasonable amount of knowledge about the sport who is looking for a comprehensive look at all aspects of bodybuilding. I encourage e-mailed resonses to this entry

5.0 von 5 Sternen This book changed my life as a Chi Gung master and healer, 27. August 1999
This book helped me create the kind of body I need to save lives. As one of the world's leading practitioners of Two-Spirit Shamanism and Chi Gung, as well as being an author (Chi Gung: Chinese Healing, Energy, and Natural Magick), I've found that in my line of work it is vital that I build my body to it's peak perfection. I specialize in using the bodies energy (called Chi in Chinese) to help work with and heal plants, animals, and people. Using this energy (it is related to Tai Chi, Accupuncture and Yoga - and for those of you who lift weights, you could think of it as the pump - only in this case, you not only use it to build muscle but also to increase your health and to even heal others), I have successfully worked with cases involving migraines, insomnia, infertility, severe trauma, strokes, paralysis, and even ovarian cancer. By developing my body, I have been better able to guide my bodies Chi as well as the Chi around me so that I can use it for healing not only myself but others. In addition, Arnold's exercises have helped me to gain a stronger awareness of all of my muscles which I then have been able to mentally guide Chi to in order to make them not only larger and stronger but also more relaxed for energy transference. Arnold's book is truly wonderful and we all are all very blessed to have such a man as a teacher, a role model, and an author.
Reading Arnold's book can change your life. It sure has changed mine and it has helped me to become the woman I am today. Using this wonderful book has enabled me to make a difference in not only my own life but also in the lives of those who need help.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Best book on BB ever. As simple as that., 12. Oktober 2009
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding: The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised (Taschenbuch)
Much has been written already about this book, so I can make it sure:

If you were to buy just one book about bodybuilding, this would be your number one choice.
And if you were to buy two or three, it would be your number two and three options as well, to keep one in the gym, one next to your bed and one in the living room.

Amazing fotographs, motivating texts, all Arnold style.

You gotta luv it.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Pretty Good, but not "For Dummies", 20. Juli 1999
Von Ein Kunde
I bought the recent editition of the book. I found it an interesting read and well worth the substantial investment.
It's not a "For Dummies" kind of text, however. It requires a *lot* of reading to get a handle on the whole purpose. Arnold really hammers home his main points (however correct or incorrect they may be is clearly in contention).
I found that the advice is generally sensible. I recommend that you:
1) Read it through first. Skip the competition sections if they don't interest you.
2) Don't take his recommended workouts at face-value. Arnold sets these, presumably for himself as a 15 year old in Graz.
3) Consult with your local gym. Trust them.
4) Don't be afraid to experiment with the deep range of exercises presented, but understand that the instructions for these exercises are brief and need expansion by someone at your gym.
I've done quite well so far from the book; it may be because I have a highly anabolic family heritage (big, tall, solid, hairy) and because I am at a hormonal peak (18), but I'm doing quite well from the advice in the book, thankyou.
PS: The photos of you in various movies were just self-indulgent, Arnold. Drop them, yeah?

5.0 von 5 Sternen Reality check for all the reviews...., 5. November 1999
Von Ein Kunde
I liked this book. Some of these reviews are downright ridiculous. There is no need to trash or worship a book. Here's the skinny on the book. It has many exercises that will allow you to gain strength, size, and stamina, without using drugs or supplements. I followed the advice of the book (without illegal supplements) and gained weight as a result, but I am not genetically capable to become very massive. I do think this book gives a lot of insight as to the art of bodybuilding, and although there may be some flaws as far as nutrition or updated information on certain exercises, it is very informative overall. I am not a student majoring in exercise science or anything similiar, but over the years weight training and exercising I have gained some insight as to what works and what doesn't. I highly recommend reading about exercises from other books as well, and then using your knowledge with this book to generate a routine and basis for working out. We all know Arnold is a success in life, not only because he had the benefit of genetics and steroids, but because he worked hard and is very disciplined. You get out what you put in is the bottom line, especially with your body.

3.0 von 5 Sternen interesting but not scientific, 19. Mai 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding: The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised (Taschenbuch)
The book describles the individual bodypart exercise in details.Very outstanding! It includes the chapter of bodybuilding history, which is quite interesting. But majority of the information in the book is not based on scientific and the suggested training programs is too intense. He suggested that advanced trainees train each bodypart 3 times per week .However, this is too intense and easily cause overtaining. For advanced trainees, training each bodypart twice or even once per week is enough to stimulate maximum hypertrophy. Anyway, the part of individual bodypart exercise is so valuable that the book is still good reference in your own library. ....
