I liked this book very much. It assumes that you have some prior programming knowledge and will bring you up to speed quickly. Being a reasonably experienced programmer I find the pace of many programming books much too slow. I only skimmed some of the early chapters, but I noticed that the book answered most of my questions regarding how PHP differs from other programming languages. The code examples are very practical and relevant.
The only negative point for me was, that the early chapters in part III - "E-Commerce and Security" - contain not much code or other information that is beyond common sense. From a programmer's point of view those chapters only add to the weight of the book.
But still it is a very good book. Especially, because it covers both PHP and MySQL and how are used together.
