Hogan is one of historys best golfplayers and his book is considered to be the best too. Unfortunately it is not. I dont know a player who has benefitted from reading it. It is very confusing.

This excellent teaching device found me at the right time, having mysteriously started struggling with my takeaway and back swing [right elbow flying out at the top!]. I poured through it in a night to search for the secret cure and I found it. I can't believe it took me 18 years of golf to discover this book. This really should be in every beginner's bag, to get his or her mechanics and fundamentals together, as well as any long time golfer who occasionally 'loses' it. It's quite a testament to its staying power to note that there are no reviews of less than five stars for this wonderful manual [my rating will be no different]. Hogan boils down the game to one important aspect, striking the ball. Grip, stance, setup, back swing, downswing are all meticulously verbally described, and then highlighted by amazingly detailed and accurate drawings. Written as a series of SI articles in the 50's, the teaching voice has lost none of its punch over the ensuing years. The gods are in the details, and I noted immediately in the setup section things I was doing to hinder the chain-reaction of his preferred swing. Left foot out a quarter turn, hmm, that's new but makes sense, elbows at hipbone at address, and arms very close to chest to allow the right elbow to fold properly. That's what I needed. His description and the images of the glass / back swing / downswing plane will provide appropriate visual clues during practice. I found his discussion of the waggle and supination of left hand on follow through also quite interesting. I've purchased copies of this for my long-time golfer mother and my girlfriend who's just taking up the game, hopefully they'll enjoy it as much as I did, and we can discuss Hogan's straightforward instruction with a common background understanding.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (Taschenbuch)
I have played golf for 25 years and have bought dozens of golf instructional books. There is only one book I always come back to - and that is Five Lessons. This book set and will forever set the standard for golf instruction and golf swings. It is very simple and all one needs to take one's game to the highest level desired.

5.0 von 5 Sternen "BETTER THAN PAYING A PRO $100 A HOUR", 21. August 1998
Mr. Hogan keeps it simple. Nothing less than hours upon hours of lessons with a pro would effect your game more, and a great bit cheaper. All you have to do is read and apply it on the course or driving range. In todays complicated world it is great to see that a book writen in 1957 still hold so true today. Nothing has changed, just keep it basic.

Over the last five years I've purchased three copies of this book. It is a fabulous reference guide for the basics, as well as an excellent resource for improving problems which periodically creep into ones game. I've purchased this book three times, yet as of today, I have no copies on my shelves, because I lend them out to freinds(?) who enjoy the book so much that they never bother to return it. So if Fred, Mike, or Gary read this, please give my book back!

The prose is a bit out-dated. The pictures are (actually) out of the 50's. But the fundamentals are there. Some will reach out and bite you IN CAPITAL LETTERS, and others must be gleaned from studying the pictures and reading the details (e.g., the right leg and knee on the backswing). But, the information you need is there. Read it. Know it. Live it. Hit lots of balls. You will see.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Classic Book, 27. September 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (Taschenbuch)
I think that this is a good book. I loved the discussion on swing planes, the set up and the follow through. Unfortunately, the chapter on the grip is a little dated. For a full swing, Hogan recommends a neutral grip with the "V" from each hand pointing at your chin. This grip robs you of a lot of distance in your shot because it restricts wrist cock at the top of the swing. It is similar to a continental grip in tennis. (Another outdated grip) Almost all the modern teaching on grips recommend the "V" of the right hand to point at your right shoulder and the left to point at your chin. This grip is similar to a two handed backhand grip in tennis. You will get more distance using this power grip. Given that half a century has passed and that almost all the information is still accurate, I still recommend buying this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The best Golf book ever, Period., 21. Juni 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (Taschenbuch)
As weekend hackers or duff rolers, whatever you like to call yourselves this is the book for you. I am a weekend hacker who is obsessed with improving my game. I rent all the tapes and try all the fads, anything to find that secrete that will help to lower my score. I have never found anything that works until now. This books not only tells you how the golf swing works it tells you how it feels. In my mind this is the only way you can learn to play golf correctly. You can't just go to a pro and let him show you what to do. To be effective he has to tell you how it feels when he does things. Now this is very hard for most pros to do (after all their swings are natural) but Hogan does a wonderful job of explaing the feeling of the way golf should be played.
Bravo Mr. Hogan, and I wish you well at the big golf course in the sky.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Ben Hogan's Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (Taschenbuch)
Ben Hogans "5 Lessons - The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" is the best resource I've ever seen for teaching the true fundamentals of the golf swing.

The illustrations are superb and perfectly convey the concepts and ideas Ben writes about making this book a must read for any golfer, regardless of proficiency.

Read this book before you learn to golf and you'll be a rookie sensation!
