I loaned my "Mental Toughness" book (his first) to a friend
who has yet to return it so I ordered this book written 12
years later. I devoured it in a 6 hour plane trip, loaned
it to my coach for whom I had to buy another copy to get it
back. And now my friend who still has my copy of his first
book wants to borrow this one. I'll buy her one instead!

Loehr discusses developing Mental, Physical, and
Psychological toughness through evaluationg your wekanesses,
developing strategies for turning them into strengths, and
through a series of introspective exercises aimed at finding
out why you are't as tough as you want to be. He teaches
how to keep a training log and has a variety of ideas for
developing yourself into an athlete who can play at the top
of her game when it counts, during major competitions.

The 'new' version has neglected some of the best parts of the original. The discussion of energy is good in the "new" one but great in the original; the discussion of energy is ok in the new but great in the old; in particular the detailed red and blue zones of the IPS are nowhere to be found in the new version. Jim Loehr is a sports psyche genius and he first book appears to be his best.

This book kept me sane! I am an international referee in Judo. Being female in a male dominated sport requires the usual 150% performance! When the going gets tough this book's advice is invaluable.
I also coach teenagers, and my students benefit from James Leohr's confidence building techniques.

I bought it because it was noted that people that bought a book that I REALLY got alot out of (The Mental Edge) also bought this one.
After reading the other book, this was a let-down. It was not as concise as the others.

I don't know what these people are reading that call this a great book?! There are other books in this same category that are MUCH better writen, easier to understand, and have more actual excercises and less psycho-bable. I sent this one back for a refund. Loehr must have had his family write the earlier reviews!

This is probably the best sports psychology book I have ever read. It can help every athlete out there. I would recommend it to anyone looking to better themselves in their sport.
