This is the first book I ever read. I did not like the dog because he was scary. I think this book should have been about a cat. I have four cats.

I was well into my 30s before I realized that this was not aDr. Seuss books. Given that it's issued in the same size and binding,I'd always assumed it was written by Seuss. My realization that it was written and illustrated by P.D. Eastman cleared one of my largest childhood confusions: I *loved* Go Dog Do, and merely *liked* The Cat in the Hat.
Years later I realize that Eastman's art is funny, while Seuss's is fantastic, and I prefer the former to the latter. As another reviewer mentioned, you can stare at these dogs for a long, long time. There's an incredible depth to their expressions and postures - especially surprising given the seemingly simple illustrations. (And yes, the insomniac dog who sleeps through the next morning's revile is one of my favorites, too. But so are the dogs having a party on a boat!)
The repetitive narration is similarly hypnotic, and you'll quickly find some of the expressions creeping into your every day dialog.
All in all, my very favorite childhood book, and one of the few that I still re-read a few times a year. END

5.0 von 5 Sternen I highly recommend this book to all parents of preschoolers., 26. März 1998
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
My soon-to-be two year old son Jackson has a prized collection of books, in which the pages of P.D. Eastman's Go,Dog Go! are worn, wrinkled, and stained with fruit juice. In places, they are even torn. This is a good thing. The first time we sat down together in the rocking chair to read it, at least a year ago now, Go, Dog Go! charmed child and mother alike from beginning to end. I knew then that this book, with its simplicity and original, appealing characters, would join the ranks of the constantly-read, which reside apart from the rest in his library. These select few sit next to the lamp on his nightstand; you cannot keep them on the bookshelf, so why bother to try? From the different sizes, colors, shapes and locations of the dogs, to the reappearing and increasingly complex matter of the hat, Go, Dog Go! delights Jackson each and every time. It is mandatory bedtime reading (according to him). It goes with us in the car to the sitter's house, the doctor's office, and on road trips. Like Dr. Seuss and Beatrix Potter, Eastman possesses the creative ability to stimulate, entrance, and comfort even the youngest of readers with colorful language, rhyme, and winsome animals all children can relate to. Go, Dog Go! is educational, medicinal, and functional dressed up as just plain fun, and that, perhaps, is its most worthy quality of all.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun, and a great early reading book, 20. Februar 2000

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
This is the book I picked when my daughter Jesse showed signs of wanting to learn how to really read, and it was a great choice. The vocabulary is tight--71 words (I wrote them out separately to help Jesse!)--and presented very well, with simple, exciting and fun illustrations.
All the activity involves dogs--blue dogs on red trees, big and little dogs, dogs in cars, in mazes, in boats and on rooftops. The text of the first five pages is: "Dog./Big dog./Little dog./Big dogs and little dogs./Black and white dogs."; this is perfect for a child learning to read, with the repetition building confidence very quickly.
The artwork is good and straightforwardly entertaining; perhaps not up to Dr. Seuss' standards, but then very little is. Jesse loves this book, and recommends it as strongly as I do.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This is the book that made me want to learn to read, 6. August 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
When I was three or four years old I thought Go Dog Go was the finest piece of literature ever written. I wanted it read almost every single day. I loved the pictures, I loved the words, I loved the story and I loved the characters. I memorized the text and recited it along whoever was reading, and when I was four I learned to sight read all the words in it and proudly read it to my parents instead. Unlike many books for preschoolers, it has a real plot, and it's a funny and relatively sophisticated plot at that. My three younger siblings all loved it too, and I was happy to take over a share of the Go Dog Go reading duties from my parents. Every four year old deserves to have a copy of this book and someone special to read it to them.

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of the few books you MUST include in a child's library!, 13. Januar 2000

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
There is just something about this book which delights every child I know. I think it's the simple but universal concepts---Go, Stop, Like, Don't Like, etc. Along with that, it's the clever details in the illustrations. My boys are so fascinated with the one dog that stays asleep while the rest wake up, by the dog yelling to stop the Ferris wheel, and most of all by that wildest of parties in kid's lit---the dog party in the tree! My older son literally looked at that picture for an hour one night. It's such a scene of pure excitement! If for some strange reason you are only getting 10 books for your child, this would be one of the 10 to get!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Eastman is the Hemingway of the sandbox set, 18. Mai 1999
Von Ein Kunde
In _Go Dog, Go_ Eastman gives us a parable of the dislocation of modern life. Not just an introduction to prepositions, GDG dizzyingly portrays the speed of change and the isolation of the new suburban lifestyle. From the bathos of the bird's (do I recognize the young bird from "Are You My Mother"?) plaintive, "Stop, dogs, stop!" to the determined female dog who can only find love in the bacchanalian atmosphere of the "dog party", Eastman here foreshadows the angst of adult life. A must-read for anyone--whether you've got kids, are a kid, or were once a kid.
This should be on any list of 100 best books.

5.0 von 5 Sternen This is the real magic of literature..., 7. November 1998

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
When I was four years old I proudly read this book aloud to my parents as proof that I could read. Six years later, when my sister was born, I gave it to her. I cannot even think of this book without getting misty eyed, and I hope that others have had similar experiences, if not with this book, then with another. This is the real magic of literature, and I will proudly define "Go, Dog, Go" as literature until my last breath.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent, simple book for younger readers, 26. Dezember 1999
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
This is a great book as it repeats in simple terms various basic concepts like difference between "IN" and "OUT";"UP" and "DOWN"; etc. It gets colors involved as well and concepts like hot and cold.
My 2 1/2 year old is sort of reading it by herself already while my son went through a stage when he was 3 1/2 where he was reading it every day.
A must!

5.0 von 5 Sternen A favorite for two generations., 3. Juni 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
My mom saved my copy of this book and it is my two year old son's favorite book. The word-to-picture ratio is perfect. He never gets impatient and we talk about something new each time -- the colors of the cars, whether he likes the poodle's hats, if he thinks the dogs are happy or sad or sleepy... It might even be said to be a three generation favorite since my mom loves to read it to him!

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Go, Dog. Go! (Beginner Books(R)) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
My 9 year olds favorite book when she was 1-2 was Go Dog Go! We read it to her over and over every night! Now it's my 2 year olds first favorite book too! "Read Go Go Go Dog!!" Her face lights up as I open the book and begin reading. And when my 9 year old hears me reading it, she comes and climbs into bed to listen again, too. A classic!
