5.0 von 5 Sternen A captivating tale of Kurt Cobain..., 29. Oktober 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
I read this book, Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, awhile ago, and reread it again because of my enjoyment of it the first time, and it didn't let me down the second time around. The book kept my interest and gave me a new perspective on a few parts of Nirvana and Kurt. I have read other books, such as "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" and "Kurt Cobain" and a few other shorter biographies and compiled books. I know a great amount about our legeng, Kurt Donald Cobain, and yet I still love reading his biographies over and over, especially Come As You Are. CAYA takes you through Kurt's life, starting with Day 1. It leads you right through about 1993, very early 1994, and the new editions have an after-chapter about his death, although not nearly as much about the ending as we would have liked. A good thing about the book is the quotes. The biographer wrote the book based on a series of many interviews with Kurt, so Kurt says a lot. A possibilty of biasism is because of one theory. A bad review was written about Kurt and Courtney in Vanity Fair magazine, leading to trials about custody and having their new baby, Frances Bean, taken temporarily away from them, and making them turn in weekly urine tests. Kurt wanted to quickly create a "good, nice" buzz about him so the aftermath of the article would vanish. They wanted to protect Courtney's name, so they hired a biographer. The book may try to make Courtney seem better than she is. Read "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" afterwards and compare the Courtney in each book. For new Kurt fans, or un-Kurt-ly-educated fans, I would suggest this book, it is simple to read and extremely captivating.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Most Honest Biography On Kurt Donald Cobain!!, 28. März 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
This book is my favorite books on Kurt and Nirvana. There are a lot of quotes which i really enjoyed and the pictures. The book starts off from when kurt was born and he was a very hyperactive young boy. So, his mom would give him ritalin which would calm him down. I feel that the ritalin started kurt off on the wrong foot. With "Natural Selection" when your young and givin drugs you'll eventually grow up to be doing much harder drugs. And i found that very depressing. This book also explains in great detail on how Kurt meet Krist and the many drummers that they went thru before they met Dave. Then the sucess which was the beginning of the end. Kurt wasn't up to being a "spokesperson of a generation" it was too much for him. The Author Azzerad actually talked to Kurt and asked him a lot of great questions.. I feel that this is the only book that you'll ever need cause it explains everything.. and Nirvana is the greatest band of all times...they'll never get forgotten because they were the best!! R.I.P. Kurt Donald Cobain (1967-1994)

5.0 von 5 Sternen Absolutely stunning, every Nirvana fan MUST HAVE THIS, 22. April 1999

A really good book - I'm still reading it but I am hooked. Much better than most other stuff because Azerrad seems to put across Kurt's opinions and points of view, then contrast it with the media's sensationalism. A lot of information on each album and explanations for why each track on "Bleach" and "Nevermind" was written (it'll probably do the other albums but I'm not that far into it yet!). Doesn't focus on his death at all apart from the chapter at the end. Shows both of Kurt's sides. Lots and lots of photos. Buy this book now even if you have only heard one song.

This is a story about respectful talented person that has impacted my life in many ways. I have researched this man and I have discovered many things about myself and I have a very simuilar charactoristics as him and a simuilar personality. I have been dignosed manic for over three years and I have alot of the same behaveral patterns as him . I have learned alot from this persons mistakes and I have also made simuilar mistakes as him. The spiritualty of this person is very hart warmming and up lifting. By learning more and more about this person helps me with mylife and it also helps me understand my manic depression. I highly reccomend this book from the depthes of his childhood to his fatal death resulting from a shotgun blast. The story about a talented person suffering from manic depression and the realism of the media and media warped people and the penalties from the media that he refused to face. Enter into a world of a terrific hero from a small town and enter into the total bliss of nirvana. by David Karels

5.0 von 5 Sternen A truely fascinating look at one most influential bands....., 1. Mai 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
I have now read this book four times. Each time I get a new feeling about the history of the band. After reading the book I noticed alot of comparisons between the members of the band and myself. Besides the fact that Kurt Cobain is dead yada yada, the book gives a great feeling of what it is like to be in a band. I'm in a band and I can appreciate what Nirvana went through to just get a song on the radio, because I too have experienced the "road life" etc. As we do our tours from little city to little city I keep the book right by my bunk, so I can pick it up when times are hard, and get inspired to continue going on. As far as the book is concerned I feel that it is very honest about band conflicts, the problems with sucess, and dealing with people who only use you as a cash grab. Whether you're in a band, want to be in a band (but have no hope in hell of learning to play an instrument), or just like the group pick this one up because it is truely phenominal!!!!!!!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Best Nirvana book ever, 8. Juli 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
Yes THIS book is the BEST!!! It didn't suger coat and I think the fact that it was written before Kurts death helped in its sincerty and the way the author wrote it. He really did he's research and put things exactly like Kurt said them and didn't distort them at all. IF I had the chance to meet this man(Azerrad) I would just to sit and talk about Kurt for hours, cause he would definatly know what he was talking about!! This book has alot of info on Kurts and Chris's childhood, alot of info on all the other bands and stuff they were into in there youth, great storys on Kurts days outside under the bridge or his horrible way of living in the apartments, how they got intouch with Dave, there touring, there songs, and ALOT on what Kurt was like. There was no holding back or speculation in this book. It is defenitly a MUST HAVE!!!!!! There are some of the most awsome pics in there to!!!!!!

4.0 von 5 Sternen How to be a punk rock star., 4. Dezember 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
I particularly, enjoyed this "How to be a punk rock star" Manual. It shows that being a punk rock star is relatively easy. Just take a normal young boy( being you) set him up in a dysfunctional life style, like a divorced family. Then That boy, must become disattacted from the rest of the world. Get that boy a guitar. Let the dysfunctionality of his life ensue as he grows up. Then hes got to meet some other underpriviledged musicians. Give them a place to play everynight. Add some drugs,of course. Then you will have a bunch of druged up punk rockers. You need one more thing. You need a major music corporation to sign them up and expliot them. Thats all it takes. oh, and make sure the little boy(you) kills himself before people stop buying the albums. This book seems to have alot of honesty, and really thats what you want in a Biography. It has the good and the bad.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The best on Nirvana, 23. Oktober 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
This book is exactly what it says it is, the story of Nirvana. Where many books state half-truths, generalize about everything, and make out Kurt Cobain to be Nirvana, this book tells it like it truly was.
Nirvana wasn't just Cobain, Grohl and Novoselic. Many people were involved to make it happen. Drummers, bassists, and guitarists that were or could have been all have their say. This book is as honest as you can get, right from the horse's mouth (that is partially dictated by Kurt Dave, Krist and other former members). It tells the truth behind the insane drug rumors, and all. From the day Kurt Donald Cobain was born until the day he died this book tells the truth and nothing but. It is a book that you can read 20 times and still appreciate and learn. Sick of the generalization of the Seattle movement? Find out how it really was in Come As You Are. The Nirvana Story.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Nirvana's Best Biography, 4. Juli 1998
Von
Alan Cerny (Houston, Texas USA) - Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen
(REAL NAME)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana (Taschenbuch)
Nirvana was the band of this decade. It spoke to disillusioned youth and to a society being raped by the information age. Although this book was authorized by the band, the honesty shines through. Kurt Cobain was a sad, but poetic man, who deserved more than to be chewed up the way he was. His final, desperate act does not negate the loving father, the brilliant songwriter, and the passioned singer that he was. Michael Azerrad did a wonderful job in writing about this band and its rise and fall. If you don't think Kurt Cobain and Nirvana have no relevance, think again. The recent school shootings in Oregon and elsewhere show a youth on the brink of despair, and just when we need Kurt the most, he is gone. "Come as we are," indeed.
