5.0 von 5 Sternen Don't just read it once....
I read this book in the coming out process of my sexuality. I picked it up due to a recommendation from a friend and I couldn't put it down. When I finished, I picked it up and read it again. I read it twice in one night. The story of Liza and Annie hit right home with me. It showed me how much love will prevail. The last two pages were the best two pages in the book...

3.0 von 5 Sternen A powerful story told by a female YA's poing of view.
My preconceieved ideas about gay people made this book a hard read at first, but while I was reading the story, I forgot that it was a girl talking about her lesbian realtionship with another girl. So strong are the feelings of love between these two people. I have a different view about people in general. If a person loves another person, the feelings are just like...

They were written so beautifully. They took my breath away and I'm certain they'll take yours, too. From one reader to another, this book is amazing and written with such passion. I recommend this book to any teenager or adult.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Helps you understand, and so much more... READ IT!, 26. September 1998
Von Ein Kunde
I started reading this book one night and stayed up until 5am till I was finished! Nothing I read ever made me feel this way, like somebody finally understood. If you feel like nobody understands homosexual relationships, read this book and almost everything you think about may be in there. AOMM finally tells what it FEELS like to be in one of these relationships, and it shows (finally!) that homosexual relationships involve LOVE, something you don't hear much about because of all the "preachiness" of most books on this subject. Annie and Liza are great characters; Liza could be a model for how to cope in an ignorant world. It's not fair that Liza's greatest struggle in this book was being herself! I wish anyone who is ANY sexuality would read this, because it is so true. It is am extreme Eye Opener!!! If everyone was given books like this to read, maybe we would all understand each other a little bit better. It is a beautiful story of how two friends fell in love, nevermind the fact they are both the same sex. This book can be described in this statement: "Don't let ignorance win. Let love."

5.0 von 5 Sternen A short motivating synopsis of the best book in the world, 10. Juli 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Cats, saucepan helmets, unicorns, and rings...what a fabulous way to convey a love story! Annie On My Mind must be one of the best books I have ever read, and I have read quite a few. I picked up this quaint little paperback out of curiosity, feeling I was "open-minded" enough to handle such a topic. The content not only helped me to realize that gays and lesbians share a justified love, but that I myself should not limit the possibilites of finding a soulmate to just one gender. I highly recommend this book to everyone: gays, lesbians, homophobics, or anyone wishing to be electrified by a beautiful love story

4.0 von 5 Sternen Love is love, 2. Juli 2002
I'm neither American, nor lesbian, I'm an Austrian social worker, wife and mother - but I do think, like the others, that this is a very beautiful book, which shows how affection can become love and love is just love, no matter which sex the partners have. But honestly: Are American highschools really so conservative that piercing ears is a scandal and a real trial is made for these poor teenagers? I can't imagine this and I'm sure, that in most European countries, people would be more tolerant, although lesbian relationships are still a taboo for some people.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Annie on my mind for 4 years, 28. Mai 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Annie on My Mind (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I first read this book over the summer between 8th and 9th grade. That was four years ago. At that time, I was struggling with my sexuality. I immediately fell in love with this book and I read it over and over. The experiences between Annie and Liza in the early stages of their romance were exactly what I had been dreaming about. For those of you who have not read this book, it is told alternately third-person limited and first-person, as a retrospective journey through the senior year of a young girl. Eliza, or Liza, is a thoughtful, outgoing girl who meets Annie, an introspective thinker in a museum. Through a series of events, they realize their mutual attraction, following a kiss on the beach. Their romance is mired by cover-ups and secrets, but, as they profess their love for one another in central park, they know they'll try to make it work. When Eliza has the opportunity to house-sit for two of her teachers, she invites Annie along. What follows is a story of injustice, close-mindedness, and the desire to "Know the truth and the truth will set you free". This book has inspired me to seek the truth, and it has been an experience I will not soon forget. I recommend this book to everyone and anyone. You cannot leave your teens without having read this book. and i

4.0 von 5 Sternen Best thing to come out of my relationship with X..., 17. Oktober 1998
Von Ein Kunde
My ex- lent me this and it was the best thing I got out of that relationship, let me assure you. With all that's been said about how wonderful this book is, let me say that I personally love it just as much as the next person... But it's not the greatest novel in existence. My major complaint is the way Liza acts-- totally ridiculous at times, while Annie's always calm. People aren't really like this! No one is always calm, and I've never met anyone who could fly off the handle with no motivation the way Liza does. And on another note, I honestly think Ms. Garden meant to send the songbird Annie to Berkelee in Boston, not Berkeley in California-- Berkelee College of Music; it makes more sense to me that way. And I think the story would have been more compelling if Annie had been a subway away for months instead of across the country. But back to the actual novel-- it's strong points are many, including the very intense way the settings are described, especially the teachers' apartment, and to a lower degree, even the Cloisters. I also liked the way both girls were pretty much introverts; it seems to work out that way when you know there's something 'different' about you...

4.0 von 5 Sternen A clear way of expressing about love in a different view!, 9. November 1999
Von Ein Kunde
The story "Annie on My Mine" is about Liza, a senior in high school who met and fell in love with Annie. They have gone through discrimination and pressures from their families and friends. This story is mostly about how Liza and Annie have to overcome the problems they would face because they are not considered normal people. It is really a great story in which we could learn not to dicriminate people just because they are different from you. We should treat everyone with respect and treat everyone equally. I like this book and would recommend everyone to read it because whether you are gay or straight, it gives lots of helpful and accurate information about homosexuality. Then that way, we won't have to look at others differently from us. This book is worth reading because it helps you to find out more and understand better things about different people.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Heartbreaking and beautiful, 6. April 1997
Von Ein Kunde
My school psychologist managed to find me a copy of Annie on my Mind after I told him that I was desparately searching for books that dealt with gay teens coming to age. I found, to my delight, that this book was different than any other that I had read. It told what it was actually like for two girls to fall in love. When you are a teen and in the closet like I am, books like these are treasured. Don't mistake Annie for a gay book, however. It is much more than that. It is a beautifully crafted love story that makes its message known without being preachy. It puts faces and names on people that some would have remain nameless. Everyone should read it and remember its messages- the most touching one being: "Know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

5.0 von 5 Sternen I wish I had read this sooner . . ., 7. Juni 2000
This book would have made my high school years much, much easier. I can relate to Liza so well. I didn't know I was a lesbian until I fell for a woman in college. I don't know how realistic the school situation is (with Liza essentially being on trial for her relationship with Annie) but I focused on the depiction of Liza's coming to terms with her sexuality. Trust me, Garden is right on. I am a bit older than the intended audience (21), but I feel qualified to say that this book is suitable reading for high school students. There is no reason to closet the issue of homosexuality. It's out there, not going anywhere, so why not introduce a loving, stable relationship?
