I read this book 3 years ago and constantly go back to it. I use the stories for children and adults to give them a different perspective of their life situation and am always amazed at how simple words can bring such depth to an event of the psyche. Thank you Clarissa this book is such wonderful, heartfelt present.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Wisdom and Native Lore: Women's Traditional Stories Retold
Ancient cultures the world over have all had oral traditions as the roots of their literature, both for the purposes of education and entertainment.
In the darkness by the fireside, story-tellers enthralled their fellow tribesmen with tales handed down through countless generations and centuries.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Haunting, touching, inspirational women's myths and stories, 19. Juli 1996
Von Ein Kunde
Clarissa Pinkola Estes opened my mind...

I thought the book was going to be either too scholarly

or too depressing. My preset ideas were completely shattered

once I read the first chapter.

Ms. Estes opened up a fanciful world of fairy-tale

and folk-tale creature/archetypes and explained them

in a way that gave them life, fleshed out the "skeleton woman"

and inspired me to make my leap into the creative with her

technique of creating a "scapecoat" to introduce a healing ritual

into any woman's life.

My creative life was enriched. My dream life was enriched.

"Wolves" inspired me to keep searching deep within my unconscious

for those archetypes that would nurture me into FULL conscious

living.

"Wolves" will no doubt bring answers from the depths of many, both

male and female, who delve into the mysterious world of the

fairy/folk/archetypal myth. Readers who open to her images

will come out with a richer feel for life and living in the now.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Reassures women whose "wild" soul is speaking to them., 19. Oktober 1996
Von Ein Kunde
When you are suddenly aware that your "soul" is speaking to you and telling you to confront the most profound secrets of your life, what do you do? Head to the nearest psychiatrist's couch? Cower in depression? I was fortunate enough to tell a friend who recommended I immediately read Women Who Run With the Wolves. Clarissa Pinkola Estes explores a number of myths, some familar and some unfamilar to most readers of the Western "canon," to reassure women going through this transformation that they are not "crazy," but are developing an awareness of the tranforming power of the "wild" soul. This book is life affirming, life saving, and one to read and reread throughout your life. I only wish Dr. Pinkola Estes had written some follow up works to this book that sings "truth" on every page. G. J. Frui

4.0 von 5 Sternen Tell me a story, I love it, but don't overanalyze!, 8. Januar 1999

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype (Taschenbuch)
I think that this book deserves high credit being an original, as far as I know, in it's genre. I love the fact that the author was able to gather so many stories and myths from diverse cultures. The analysis was also thought provoking. But I think that I read this book too late. At 37 years old, a university graduate, married career etcetra I find her book a bit of a downer at times. The emphasis on how to get out from under the thumb of an abusive/domineering man, boss, parent, "friend", is a bit depressing. I think it's great for those who have been down-trodden to listen to Oprah and Rosanne and Sally Jessy Raphael and Hillary Clinton for that matter to learn truths about destructive interpersonnal relationships. But, although I applaud Ms. Pinkola's originality and thouroughness, it's not for me.What do you think?

5.0 von 5 Sternen Not for the spiritually dead, 9. November 1998

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype (Taschenbuch)
If this book was for everyone, it would be suspect. It's not a one-size-fits-all tome, but for those of us it connects with, the connection is powerful.
My introduction to the work of Dr. Estes came initially through her audio tapes, which in fact preceded the publication of WWRWTW.
It's powerful medicine, so much so that I only am able to read a little at a time, and digest it slowly. I can't imagine sailing through this book as if it was a consumable like a pulp novel. It should be approached with the openness and reverence which is due matters of the soul and spirit.
For me, it is a religious classic to be slowly savored.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Ein Strohhalm für verlorene Seelen, 29. August 1999
Vielen Dank Frau Pinkola Estes!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Guys can howl too!, 24. März 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Men, don't let the title fool you. We can learn as much as women can from this ingenious book from Clarissa Estes. The parables she tells and the interpretations she provides have truly opened my eyes to many of the issues faced by women. In a style that is easy to read and even easier to understand, WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES contains lessons for both genders to learn. Though a few of Estes' statements are gender-specific, much of her wisdom is universal. Guys, we've been asking all of our lives what women want. My guess is they want us to read this book

4.0 von 5 Sternen a new point of view on old facts, 26. April 1998
Von Ein Kunde
This book is really new because it brings to people, not a pre-made solution but how to look for one, to some of their deep problems like real unhappy life and suicide.
To me the most important message the author gives to people is to let things die, as death brings life again. Also she allows people to stay close to their feelings and to listen to them.

As a women, she encouraged me to find and build my inner life, but, unlike some people think it is a long and harduous process, and one does not become a Wild Woman by simply wearing a wolf T-shirt!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great book! Teaches us vital pieces of the puzzle of life, 6. März 1997
Von Ein Kunde
Pinkola Estes is an anthropologist and psychologist who has studied ancient womens stories. She analizes the values being taught by those stories and explains how they were meant to warn the young ones about these situations in their own lives. If you want to discover these things for yourself, this is the book for you. I have given this book as a gift and it was well received. We could all use a grandmother like this to tell us of the pitfalls. And coloful stories to help us remember the lessons

4.0 von 5 Sternen Unique look at the female persona, 10. November 1998
Von Ein Kunde
I was assigned this book as part of a college psychology of gender course, and was surprised at how quickly it read, and the emlightening points it makes. Although I do not attempt to agree with all aspects of Estes work, she certainly understands the connection made between women searching for their place and meaning in life, and the wild wolve archetype. A definate must-read for the "lost" souls in todays' world!
