This book - like the other of Pete Tombs about strange movies from all over the world - is not only full of information and trivia about European exploitation movies but also highly read- and enjoyable. Starting with an overview about the different national movie industries in the high time of exploitation, Immoral Tales centers on the oeuvre of the directors such as Jesus Franco, Jean Rollin and others. The only bad thing about it is, that it makes you really thirst to see the movies described in a movie-theatre, which is nearly impossible (imagine seeing Vampiros Lesbos in your local Cineplex) or at least on video, which is not so easy either. It also makes you a little bit sad that TV killed this (low budget) part of the film-industry, that offered so much freedom to outstanding talents and produced (sometimes) real gems of the bizzare.

P.S.:Do only Autrians read and comment this book?

There are lots of books on sex films and there are lots of books on horror films. This is the only book I know of that looks at the sex/horror hybrid. I cannot explain why, but on-screen titillation is that little bit more piquant when shown in the context of a horror film. This is a marvellous book, and it contains interesting information about my favourite film of all time, "Vampyros Lesbos". Buy this book and seek out the videos.
