Most of the examples in this book are re-drawn stills from classic, famous or easily recognized movies and shows: Potemkin, T2, Stagecoach, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane. So basically it's somewhere between "drawing off TV" (aspect ratios vary) and a recapitulation of "Shot by Shot", Stephen Katz's excellent book. It's hard to get permission for the original boards I'm sure, and nobody expects Mr. Katz to simply showcase his portfolio -- but his selections neither impress with detail and virtuosity nor provide a comprehensive overview of the craft and business.

John Hart's book is the very best I've seen on storyboarding. He skillfully draws shots from every camera angle, relates them to story context, and offers his rationale for many shots from classic films--which he draws as a storyboarder would. Also very interesting demonstrations on use of light and shadow.

It is easy to condemn and difficult to praise. John Hart knows how to communicate and that is who and what he is, a communicator. John Hart knows how to teach, and that is what he is, a teacher.
It would seem silly to take the unknown and the unclear to make a point. It is the point that matters, not the examples. If a point is made with non-obvious examples, no point is made.
Therefore, to the condemning soul who wrote the unfortunate review which is quoted above, someone who knows Mr. Hart's work for over 20 years begs to differ. END

I have known John Hart personally for over 20 years as a photographer, playwright, artist and writer.
I know him to be a clear thinking person of great integrity who would use the most communicable ways to reach his readers. One reviewer here attacked him for actually being clear.
I would certainly advise purchasing any book he might write. One might actually feel reached by the author in a clear cut and positive way.
