This sequel to "Dark Lord of Derkholm" is just as funny and interesting as anything else by Diana Wynne Jones.
After the end of the pilgrim tours, the university has to struggle with loss of money, quitting teachers and other problems. At this university, a very special group of students start their first year - and it proves to be even more interesting than you would think. They meet challenges like stupid teachers, assassins, pirates, uneducated and mad griffins...Not to mention their own struggle with magic, love and growing up..
All this makes for a fun read with realistic and likable characters. Once started, I couldn't put the book down :)

If you have enjoyed the Harry Potter books, then chances are well that you will also love 'The Year of the Griffin' (even much more so if you also happen to like authors like Terry Pratchett, as this is a very funny book).
I can not say it often enough - try to get hold of all the books of Diana Wynne Jones, they make for an extremely interesting read. In this case, be sure to start with the prequel 'Dark lord of Derkholm', as it might spoil you much of the fun of reading the other book if you already know the outcomes.
