Almost (but not quite) what I was looking for 1. September 2008
Von D. Muller - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I was SO excited when I got this book. The recipes are extremely low in sugar and high in whole grains/fruits/veggies. I am a little skeptical as to how well it is tested and edited, as the first recipe I went to try, "Apple & Oat Muffins," has no mention of oats anywhere in the ingredients or in the directions.

Also, she talks about not feeding undercooked eggs to small children and yet this book does include recipes where eggs are not cooked thoroughly. (a recipe for "Dippy Eggs" and "Poached Eggs." There is also talk of not overdoing it on fish due to harmful dioxins, and there are 8 fish recipes!

Overall, there are too many foods we just don't eat like bacon, heavy cream, and sardines... and really, just too heavy of a reliance on animal products in general.

I do think this book could be a real eye opener for people who are not accustomed to preparing meals and don't realize just how much sugar and fat kids are eating. I will be trying out a couple of her recipes, just not as many as I thought I would.

...as for the "Apple & Oat Muffins?" Well, I used my old standby of "Apple Hemp Muffins" from Dreena Burtons book "Vive Le Vegan." They are completely whole grain, contain ground oats and have no refined sugar. We are not vegan, but so far this has been the best book I have found in terms of feeding kids.

good tips, good information, good recipes! 23. Dezember 2006
Von Tree - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
this book has LOTS of ideas on how to prepare meals for your kid that are healthier than pre-packaged, store-bought crap. i couldn't believe it when i prepared the spinach and cheese souffle for my 13 month old and she devoured it. (usually she doesn't like eggs, cheese, or anything green). she also really likes the cheesy lentil sweet potatoes, which blew me away! it has been an incredibly valuable resource when it comes to nutrition information for kids. most of the recipes are pretty bland (low-sodium/low-sugar), but bland is what my kid seems to like. its a really great cookbook, the only reason i gave it 4 stars is because some of the recipes involve a lot of ingrients and take way too long to prepare.

Not what I expected 18. Dezember 2006
Von Kris D - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
I bought this book as a gift for someone who has a toddler. I thought it would provide good ideas for dinnertime meals. I was disappointed when I looked through the book at the recipes. Although some looked very child friendly, such as chicken nuggets and smoothies, some looked like they were more geared towards adults. Sardine bruchetta, walnut pesto, and sweet potatoes with lentils and bacon all sound delicious, but may be more appropriate for the parent's tastes. I was so disappointed about what I read that I couldn't bring myself to give it as a gift even though the book is beautifully put together with great pictures.
