An information-packed guide to all the emotional, financial and physical changes the father-to-be may experience during the course of his partner's pregnancy. Incorporating the wisdom of top experts in the field, from obstetricians and birth-class instructors to psychologists and sociologists, this book is filled with sound advice and practical tips for men, as well as New Yorker-style cartoons that will keep anxious fathers-to-be chuckling. -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine andere Ausgabe: Taschenbuch .

From Publishers Weekly

In an expanded and updated version of Brott's 1995 book, the authors once again present a month-by-month guide to pregnancy for the father-to-be. Illustrated throughout with humorous cartoons, the book divides each month of pregnancy into four astute categories: "What She's Going Through" (physical and emotion changes), "What's Going On with the Baby" (physical progress), "What You're Going Through" (physical and emotional changes) and "Staying Involved" (tips on supporting and encouraging the pregnant partner). Since most child-rearing books for men focus primarily on the emotional challenges, it's both refreshing and helpful that these authors include practical advice: recipes, detailed insights into the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and realistic appraisals of the often very high costs of baby furnishings. Most valuable are the sections on the aspects of birth that make many men squeamish (episiotomies, epidurals and cesarean sections) as well as the post-delivery traumas that they tend to avoid facing (finding childcare, dealing with late-night wake-ups, dressing young children and sex after pregnancy). This is an essential book for all expectant fathers. (June)Forecast: Brott, a father of two, who has been called "the superdad's superdad" by Time magazine, has written five books on fatherhood and hosts Positive Parenting, a national radio talk show. Considering the increasing number of fathers who want to be actively involved in parenting, this book, with its Father's Day release, should do at least as well as the original, which was a bestseller.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent and highly recommended!, 20. August 2006
My daughter is pregnant and I know very well what her husband and she are going through. As a marriage consultant and sexual therapist I strongly advised them to buy and this book because it is a great source of information for a father-to-be. I do NOT think that he should just follow his gut instinct and hope that he will do everything properly. It is a very important and responsible role to be a father and I would never advise anyone to jump blindly and unprepared. Mr. Brott is an expert in this field and gradually describes an entire role model for a father-to-be. He is very involved, loving, caring, supportive and always nearby. This model is very different from the stereotypical model of a father-macho whose role is to make sure that there is food on the table and the bills are paid.

I am very happy that this book will really help you to be an example of an involved husband and father-to-be. The last thing your pregnant wife will want is a clueless husband who doesn't understand what's going on with her, the baby and feel anxious about the future. This book provides a lot of advice about financial planning and puts everything in a perspective which I think is very important for a man. Probably you will find some parts of it "obvious" but they will reassure and calm you down that what you do is right. Anxiety is one of the worst enemies and this book will successfully help you to keep it under control.

I strongly recommended to my daughter in addition to this book to buy "Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex" by scientist Ritz. Pregnancy is a tough period for sex. That's why you may feel bad or even rejected from the serious decrease in your intimate contacts. Ritz made a breakthrough with the discovery of "The VIP Muscle", which generates multiple orgasms in men with or without a partner. That's why my daughter's husband was very happy and calmed to receive from her that book. Now he reads Ritz's book, "enjoys daily multiple orgasms alone" according to my daughter and prepares for "ultimate sex" after the delivery. That's why I highly recommend both books!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Go to doc/midwife visits...and not look like an idiot, 20. Juli 2000
This book is excellent for providing a survey of "what's going on" during your wife's/girlfriend's pregnancy. Each chapter, which basically covers one month of the pregancy, is short enough to actually be able to get through (!) while still touching on all relevant topics. For example, in the labor and delivery chapter, he covers much of the various terms you hear but maybe are confused about (epidural, episitomy, VBAC, etc.), but in a way that doesn't take forever to read. Basically, it will familiarize you with all the key issues of pregnancy in a terse, enjoyable--and sometimes moving--way.

5.0 von 5 Sternen For an expectant father who wants to participate, 19. Juni 2000
Von Yung-Hsin Sun "waterresourcesguy" (Folsom, CA United States) - Alle meine Rezensionen ansehen
(REAL NAME)
During our first pregnancy, I read all my wife's book for child birth, pregnancy, and even breastfeeding. I would like to participate in all aspects. Although our excitement toward the pregnancy were the same, some detailed (sometimes trivial) emotional reactions I had were very different from what my wife may have had. The author honestly reported many complex feelings wondering in a expectant father's mind. This book echoed a lot of my personal thinkings and enhanced my intuition and belief in my participation and actually, help in the whole process.
