OK, first I thought it was a new series but in the same context of the assassin-trilogy only somewhat later. It's not and that became clear in the first chapters.
So I tried to get into the new plot / environment. I must admit, I failed.
As described by others, the world has mechanics and weapons, that are further developed from sword and shield than in other fantasy. Ok, I can stomach that. The concept of light-magic and the way it's drafted I really didn't understand and I don't find it convincing that people would do that if the use of that magic would take them to madness...
Some of the central "interactions" I find highly unprobable (can't say more as it would spoil one… Mehr dazu

4.0 von 5 Sternen Finale - or not ???, 11. Mai 2009
So this is the last part of the Shadow-Trilogy, wherein most open strands of the prequels get sorted out. Kylar finds his ultimate destiny, the right person gets to be high king, some people die, some get to live on, prophecies are fulfilled, a mighty battle is won... And yet, there seems to be room for new stories. On his homepage the author hints at a revisiting novel, taking place 17 years later. As having finished this book somehow threw me into a kind of hole (and left me stranded in reality again) after I was almost drowning in this story I now can't wait for said sequel to be published - WRITE FASTER !!! :-)

So this is the 2nd part of the trilogy, in which Kylar comes to terms with his powers, has to adjust to his fate and to learn how to bear terrible losses. The reader also gets some background-information but as one already knows the world and most of the characters this part isn't as gripping as the 1st part. Yet, still it is a page burner and it makes you wonder, where all those strands lead to. I think that's the proper thing for a middle part of a trilogy to achieve, so even if I wasn't that hooked up as I was by the 1st part, I'd still rather give 4.5 stars than 4.
