first of all: this book IS magnificent ...

during my stay in India I have read a lot of books by those very gifted contemporary Indian authours like Rushdie, Kiran, Gosh, Suri among others.

A fine balance is one of the most beautiful, terrific, hilarious and epic of all of them.
There are a lot of reviews already that try to recommend that book - i strongly support them.
In case somebody is searching for others intelligent and interesting, humorous and sad books I highly recommend "the age of shiva" by Manil suri, too.
I loved that book almost the same way I did and do "a fine balance".
in my opinion, the intelligent, sad but hilarious at the same… Mehr dazu

actually I don't know why I was that fascinated and powerfully enthralled by the second book of manil suri.
I have to admit that in the end there were some pages that weren't able to capture me as the beginning was.

but the most important and what really counts for me was the beautiful language suri uses in his books.
every page, especialle the beginning and throughout the story until the almost end of it seems to be poetry ...
suri uses such a brilliant and beautiful one that I enjoyed reading even the not-so-captivating moments of his book.

before the age of shiva I read the shorter the death of vishnu which is also a very intelligent and beautiful… Mehr dazu

Nachdem ich von "la vita è bella" von R. Begnini restlos begeistert war/bin musste ich natürlich auch seine neueste Regiearbeit sehen, in der er auch wieder mit seiner Frau N. Braschi die Hauptrolle spielt.
Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht: ein wahrhaft wundervoller Film mit einem ebenso phantastischen Soundtrack. Aber wie bei allen italienischen (und sonstigen) Filmen: unbedingt im Original anschauen.
Sehr empfehlenswert.
Allein schon wenn ich die Musik höre, fühle ich mich wieder auf seltsame Weise entrückt und in die grüne, wunderschöne Toscana versetzt ...
