Twittering from the Circus of the Dead von Joe Hill
In 'Twittering from the Circus of the Dead' you get exactly what is advertised so bluntly in the title. In the vein of hundreds or thousands of unwitting horror novel/film protagonists, a family on a road trip stumbles across what seems to be a very peculiar version of the backwater circus. Unlike the reader, the family works hard at not seeing what is going to come. Enriched by the ever-present teenager son/daughter-parent conflict, we are given small 140 character glimpses into a constantly darkening adventure.

Much is left, as it often is in well-constructed horror, to the imagination of the reader. Hill, via the teenage daughter, only throws in hints, suggestions and half… Mehr dazu

'House of Small Shadows' may start slowly, but once the story takes off, it does so at a breathtaking speed. While in Nevill's previous publication, 'Last Days', the protagonist is on the hunt for something larger than life and only becomes the hunted over the course of the story, House's female heroine, Catherine, has to face confinement and entrapment, both emotional and physical, from the very beginning.
Once she enters the reach of Edith Mason, niece and sole heir of world renowned taxidermist and puppeteer M.H. Mason, the young valuer is irresistibly drawn to the Red House, an old Victorian sprung from every auctioneer's dreams. The more she learns, the more she is torn between… Mehr dazu
