Can't complain really because it is free, but the format is all over the place so I have deleted it and found a copy elsewhere. Perhaps someone may fix it up some time. Of course in terms of the work itself, this is an essential reference for the philosopher in us all!
Written in the 90's and becoming somewhat of a popular classic in the UK, I believe, though I did not know it at all. Interesting look at (upper?) middle-class life in England in the immediate years before the outbreak of war and told in that very familiar family chronicle manner that very often assures a popular audience . Given her personal history, Howard may welll have drawn heavily from her own life. I guess I find the style a little bit dated (it sounds like the time! but I guess it should!) but certainly it is a story I will read to the end - this is the first book in a series of four. Good value on Kindle!!)
