The Sirens of Titan: A Novel
The Sirens of Titan: A Novel
von Kurt Vonnegut
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 12,42

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of the Best, 1. August 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Sirens of Titan: A Novel (Taschenbuch)
This could possible be my favorite novel of all time. Definitley my favorite of Vonnegut thus far. The science fiction elements, the worldly undertones, Vonnegut's trademark style all twist together to form this unmatched work of art. It reads like a movie, so visual it's scary. The characters are unforgettable and the adventure is even more so. A true genius is Vonnegut, and this book proves it again. If I could give it more stars, I would.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Subway Gold, 1. August 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Jitterbug Perfume (Taschenbuch)
I am a newcomer to the world of Tom Robbins. I always heard of him but I really didn't know what his style was like. One day on my way home from work there was a guy reading this book on the subway. He kept laughing to himself as he read this book, so i had no choice but to read it myself to see what all the fuss was about. I must say there were many more elements of fantasy than i figured, but what a story! Who comes up with this stuff? It's somewhere between a forth grade fairy tale and a Vonnegut masterpiece. A definite recommendation to any fans of the surreal and the fantastic. 4 1/2 Stars.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great for a suspense novel, 1. August 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Red Dragon (Taschenbuch)
This is a suspense novel that actual brings suspense. Through most of the book you really don't know what is going to happen next and you really can't wait to see. The character of the Red Dragon ( a Norman Bates meets Jack the Ripper)is written so effectively you don't know whether to hate him or root for him. The only down side to this book was the ending. I found it a bit cliche and a little predictable. Can't wait to see the flick based on this ditty - Manhunter.

Operation Shylock: A Confession (Vintage International)
Operation Shylock: A Confession (Vintage International)
von Philip Roth
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 11,95

3.0 von 5 Sternen An Endless Classic, 31. Juli 2000
Amazing.... Philip Roth has pulled off the unthinkable. He writes a book with no ending and he gets away with it. He not only gets away with it, he does it with style. Boring at times, brilliant at others, this book works to a nerve racking frenzy, and then Roth cuts us loose. It's almost as if he gets writer's block right before the last chapter! But that remains the beauty of this work. The use of "fact or fiction ?" is what guides us through to the end only to take a twist that will send you silly. Highly effective.....that is if you can get through the lecture-like portions. If only this book was trimmed by about 75 pages or so. It's dragging portions is what drags my rating down to three stars

5.0 von 5 Sternen Absolute Perfection, 31. Juli 2000
This is by far the most complex, bizzare, and intricatly written novel i have ever read. The symbolism and hidden themes are uncountable. I find it hard to believe that these three works were ever published seperatly. The way they feed off each other is pure literary genius. Never has a trilogy provided more mystery and unnerving suspense. Absolutley my favorite novel of all time. This story should be read and studied by anyone interested in literature in any way. The purest form of talent I have seen to date.

4.0 von 5 Sternen a fun quick read, 31. Juli 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Lost Horizon (Taschenbuch)
This was a great summer read. It goes quick, i keeps your attention, and its just good fun. The suspense definitely boils as the plot unfolds which truely makes it hard to lay this one down. Although a bit dated, i found it to be very well constructed. A good story, interesting characters, and alot of mystery. Simply put, one of the better classic adventure tales i have had the pleasure of reading. Highly recommended if your not looking to for something to deep.
