Excellent booklet on Messerschmitt's last Bf 109s. Very good run down on Australia's Bf 109 G.
Page 18 bottom depicts a Bf 109 "lack of aerial mast". The mast is broken and is laying to the side just behind
the cockpit. Page 33 profile second one down from top shows White 43 without aerial mast.
The booklet is a worthwhile addition to any collection on the Bf 109.

Green states in his Introduction: "...Stormbird was not an especially revolutionary aircraft."
What else flew at that time with swept wings and nearly the speed of sound?
The booklet has a very good run down on the Australian Me 262 and excellent profiles from T.A.Tullis.
It would be a worthwhile addition to any Me 262 collection.

Another hit from Jerry Crandall. Just like all books by Crandall it shows the love for detail and accuracy.
I am looking forward to his next book Fighters of the Iron Cross which should be out by the end of the year.

A few things that struck me at first glance.
Page 316 - the photograph of Nowotny shows him in shorts. It is implied that he was incompetent to do his job because he wore shorts. To denigrate the 23 year old pilot, regardless of what Fritz Wendel wrote in his report, is to take the human side away. But then a bit of character assassination goes a long way.
Page 365 - the Me 262 depicted was the mount of Major Rudi Sinner. The profile should show a III. Gruppe vertical bar behind the Balkenkreuz. (Luftwaffe im Focus, Special Number 2).
Page 386 - on several occasions the town of Neuburg an der Donau is referred to as am Donau. This might be nitpicking, but it should not occur.
Page 370 - there was no Papegai (Papagai) Staffel. It was called the Sachsenberg Schwarm. On the photograph depicting the pilots they are wrongly identified. They are from left to right: Hofmann, Sachsenberg, Wübke and Faber.
The legend on aircraft Red 1 says : Verkaaft’s mei Gwand I’ foahr in Himmel.

Fantastic narration on the Luftwaffe Wettererkundungs-Staffeln. It is amazing what the authors brought together after so many year after the events.
Quote: At the height of the war the Wekustas included about a dozen individual squadrons, totaling several hundred aircraft and over 1,000 flight crews.
I would give six stars if it were possible.

I have purchased this book way back in 1993 and even today I find myself going back to it for reference quite frequently. As many books of that period are outdated, I can not say this for Bender's book.

This if probably the best book written on the subject. It helps to understand the prevailing mood in Germany at a time of utter desperation.

Science, Technology, and Reparations: Exploitation and Plunder in Postwar Germany by John Gimpel has become a classic. It is a must-read for anyone interested in this type of information. Another book along the same subject is the equally interesting The Paperclip Conspiracy by Tom Bower. The two books complement each other.
