5.0 von 5 Sternen extremely enjoyable and entertaining!, 22. August 2012
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Going LA LA (Taschenbuch)
Okay, so I really really loved this book! It was the first one of Alexandra Potter's books that I've read but I guess it won't be the last ;)

I could go on and on about the whole plot and characters, but this time I'll just leave it at a recommendation :)
Only point of criticism: the ending... but then again, I'm really hard to please regarding endings. I hardly ever like how books/movies end so that's okay :) I just wished it would've been a teeny tiny bit longer. Like one chapter more or so. But I'll survive.

If you like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Sophie Kinsella, Carly Phillips, Rachel Gibson.... you're definitely going to enjoy Alexandra Potter :)

Uh and just out of curiosity: who else thought Dorian was gay in the beginning? LOL
And something else: I'd like to have a Reilly all to myself :D haha

4.0 von 5 Sternen nice conclusion!, 22. August 2012
First of all, I really want to give it 5 stars, because I just loved it probably about as much as the first two books of the series. Still, I can't ignore the fact that it took me over 2 weeks to get through the first 200 pages. Now, this wasn't merely due to the slow progress of the book during the first third to half of it but also my lack of free time lol. Alas, I know that if it had been completely engrossing from page one onwards, I WOULD have found a way to finish it REAL fast haha. So that's my reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 I guess...

Other than that, I can only recommend it to everyone who liked the series so far and I think it's a good conclusion to a great story :)
Of course, I can't argue that the first book was the best out of the three, but hey, everyone who's ever read a trilogy (and I say trilogy because I only ever really encounter that phenomenon with those... strangely, I don't feel the same about series with more than 3 books lol) will probably agree with me that this is quite the norm ;)

4.0 von 5 Sternen better than expected!, 22. August 2012
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Elixir (Taschenbuch)
So I give this book 4 stars. According to goodreads that means I 'really liked it'. Tell you what: I only liked it ;) but I never felt those descriptions for the number of stars worked for me anyways. Truth is, even though I 'just' liked it, I think it deserves 4 stars lol.

Anyways, let's get to the actual 'review':
Of course I had certain expectations based on all the reviews I've read before actually buying the book. Let me tell you, these expectations were exceeded. I think it deserves more than the 3.something stars that it got on here as a rating, but I can see why some people might not like that book at all haha.

First of all, I got the idea that a lot of people hold working together with another author on this story against Hilary Duff. I can actually see from which angle they're coming from with these accusations because they claim all she did was write the acknowledgments, give the littlest amount of thought to the plot and the characters and that's it. Alright, maybe that actually is the case, but I don't think it is.
The reason for that is the way this book is written. I think the style is kind of raw(and I don't mean that in a bad way, AT ALL. I actually rather enjoyed that). If I would hire someone to write a whole book in my name, I guess I would choose somebody who would actually do a better job than I myself would be able to do(no offense. As I already said, I liked the style ;) ). So, I think she did her fair share of writing. Just my honest opinion.

Next: plot & characters...
I liked Clea, though I couldn't say I really loved her. Rayna was kinda cool on the one hand, but she also really got on my nerves most of the time, so yeah. I guess I'm kind of glad she wasn't actually present for the whole length of the book lol.
Then something strange happened: I normally don't get the people who can't stand the regular couples as provided by the authors in the books (except for Harry and Ginny, I really don't like that couple much, but still, as long as I only have to deal with them in the books and the movies, I'm fine), but this time was different.
Don't ask me why, Sage seems to be all kinds of awesome, but I just didn't like his 'relationship' with Clea much. I totally get why so many people pointed out the plain weirdness of their actions in the book after having known each other for only what... a day or two at the most? Even if they are supposed to be soulmates and Sage is planning on killing himself like the next day or something to save Clea and all that, it's still slightly bizzare if you ask me.
Surprisingly, I actually prefer Ben as Clea's love interest. He seems really nice and has proven to be a great friend. She likes him, even says that she loves him and I don't know... isn't it kind of depressing to know you will grow old and die(if you're lucky and won't die within the next year or so due to nature's need to balance everything out and stuff) and your husband/boyfriend/whatever will stay young forever and watch you slowly fading away? It's the Twilight issue all over again, except in this scenario there's no 'bite me and we'll live happily ever after and forever-ever' XD. And yeah, I know that Ben is kinda the reason Clea died(like, pretty much every single time) but I really do believe that if it hadn't been for Ben, there would've been another cause for her death(remember? nature's balance and all that) so I really can't hold it against him lol.
Also, I think Ben's character was much rounder and better developed than Sage's, which is kind of strange seeing that he is supposed to be the most important person to Clea and so forth. Sage just presents that huge mystery even after practically the whole story of his life is laid down before you, and while I really can appreciate some thrill and mystery, I simply thought it made him kind of unapproachable for the reader.

As for the plot, I thought the ideas were good, but IMHO there were too many storylines in it. Or at least to many that were left unfinished. Actually, I don't think a single one has been brought to an end. All they did was introducing new plots over and over again without solving any of the previous ones. Actually, I think this is to be blamed on Hilary Duff's inexperience as an author(and this is not me trying to hate on her, it's just my honest opinion. I love Hilary :) ), but I think/hope this will improve over time if she actually continues to pursue this career.
So what I'm trying to say is: even considering the fact that this book is part of a series, I think it leaves way to many things unsolved.

Still, I can't deny that I enjoyed reading it(at least after I got past the first well 70-100 pages lol) and I'll definitely pick up the sequel sometime. But it's not one of those books where I'm just dying to know what will come next.

So, to sum it all up: I liked it. It was better than I thought it would be based on the reviews I've read. I think it has potential, but the actual outcome has yet to be determined by the following books :) I recommend it, but you would have to bring a little patience with you I guess ;)

(man, that's one LONG review... oO I wasn't planning on writing that much about one book, well...)

Yes, it was a completely different setting from Poison Study but it was so... magical :D

No seriously... I loved this side of the story and if I was feeling kind of sad because I thought Valek wouldn't play such a big role in this book, well... I was wrong :D sneeky, sneeky Valek, just got to love him, right?

To make it short: Loved it. Recommend it. Have to read Fire Study asap!!! ;)

4.0 von 5 Sternen was expecting something different :), 22. August 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Let me just say: when starting to read this book, or even when ordering it, I was expecting something completely different from what I ultimately got ;) And I don't mean that in a bad way, I found it pretty entertaining. And by that I don't mean because of the suspense. It actually got me laughing out loud A LOT. Uhm, yeah.... I'm kinda weird that way, go figure lol

People who say they were on edge the whole time because of all the suspense created by this book are obviously not watching too many horror movies lol I mean yeah, if I had been reading this 10 years ago, I would've been kinda spooked I guess, but I don't really think it would freak you out a lot even if you were let's say about 15... maybe that's just me, but I didn't think this book was especially creepy.
Nonetheless, it was a really fun and quick read. Oh, and I kinda changed my mind about Derek. I think he rocks haha and I know he and Chloe will somehow end up together, or at least I hope they will, because if not... well, someone will be very sorry lol ;) just kidding. Anyways, this review already turned out to be much longer than I originally intended it to be so I'll better be going.

All in all, a fun book and I can recommend it. But not the best I've read this year ;)

5.0 von 5 Sternen real page turner and highly entertaining!, 22. August 2012

First of all, THIS is a really fun read!
I was never bored while reading this and it's a real page turner. You always want more, want to know what's going to happen next.

I really liked Evie from the start. I've heard people saying that it took them some time to get used to her dialog or 'Tasey' haha but I'll have to admit I LOVED THAT!
I found it to be really refreshing because it just was so different from all the other books I've been reading recently.

Oh, and for what it's worth: I never thought Reth was one of the bad guys... I mean yes, he's kind of weird and has quite a temper sometimes, but deep down I guess he's okay... for a faerie :)
Of course he does some things that make you think 'WTF' but the way I see it: they have probably other priorities than humans, which, if you ask me, is totally understandable, them being immortal and all that. Thus, I wouldn't necessarily say that faeries are immoral or even amoral, IMO they just have another understanding of what is moral and what is not... But that's just what I think haha ;)
That being said, I like Reth (if you hadn't figured THAT out already...) and I really REALLY loved that book. 2011 is turning out to be a highlight as far as books are concerned!

So go and get yourself a copy of Paranormalcy if you haven't done that already and enjoy it!

Reading this book was actually really frustrating for me because I wanted to devour it but I just didn't have any spare time. Thus, it took me forever to read it despite it being pretty short.

Anyhow, really liked it and I can't say that it disappointed me. At all. I've read quite a few reviews on this book beforehand and was finding it kind of sad to read that so many people weren't satisfied with it because I thought 'great, that probably means I'll feel the same way about the storyline'. BUT this wasn't the case, thankfully :)I still liked the first one of the series better but that doesn't mean I won't give this one 5 stars if I thought it was amazing ;) because that is what 5 stars mean, at least according to goodreads.

I don't want to go too much into detail because I guess there will be people reading this review before they've actually read the book and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Bear with me!
That being said, I'll definitely read the next one and as for the whole series: I recommend it!!

Edit: okay so I changed the rating from 5 to 4 stars not because I don't still think about this book the way I did a few days ago but because I've read Starcrossed now and I just love it so much more. Wouldn't be fair to rate those two books equally. Sorry Partholon :)

OMG!!! I devoured this book. IT'S AMAZING!!! And deserves every single one of the 5 stars... and more ;) Alas, 5 is the most I can give, so yeah... lol
I LOVE Yelena, Valek and especially Ari and Janco. I thought the story was very inventive and the book's VERY well written. At least IMHO.
I couldn't stop reading and now I'm kind of disappointed that I already finished it because I swore not to order any new books until I receive my next paycheck LOL DAMN ME!
I don't know what else to say about this book without giving too much away, but really: GO READ IT!!!

This book is impossibly well written, especially considering how young the author is!
If I pictured myself in less than 2 years... I would never be able to write like that at such a young age. That doesn't mean I would be able to write like that ever, period. ;)

Surprisingly, I could really identify myself with Tris. I'm not saying that she is anything like me, but I found her to be a rather accessible character for a change. Most of the time I admire the strenght, bravery, wit or whatnot of a main character but more often than not I can't empathize with them completely.

I would love to talk myself blue in the face about Four and a few other people but I actually don't want to give anything away and well, as I think I've said before I hate marking my reviews as spoilers, so I'll just leave it to that :)

All in all this book's a GREAT, INSPIRING, BREATHTAKING, BEAUTIFUL read and I recommend it to all you dystopian and YA lovers out there! And to everybody else for that matter! HAHA ;)
