Lord of the Rings
Lord of the Rings
von J. R. R. Tolkien
  Taschenbuch

5.0 von 5 Sternen The greatest epic fantasy ever written, 10. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Lord of the Rings (Taschenbuch)
This book is fascinating from cover to cover. Tolkien is at his very best in this book, wielding adjectives about Middle Earth that make it seem so believable I felt I was actually there, and unlike so many fantasy books today, the plot and character development don't take a back seat. It's one huge tour-de-force that is just hurled at you. Some people will argue that it's just too boring, and I'll go with you on that, but that's no reason not to like the book. I guarantee that half of the people who say that didn't get past the first hundred pages. What we have here is a masterpiece of fantasy and fiction, and a fine line drawn between a fantasy world and the real world, and Tolkien gives us an epic fantasy that will stay in the mind's of it's readers for years to come.

The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz
von L. Frank Baum
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen Classic children's story, 6. Mai 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Wizard of Oz (Gebundene Ausgabe)
I liked the reviewer's review earlier about the shoes and road representing the gold and silver standards and how right he was. But not only that, but the story itself is involving and engrossing from beginning to end. The characters are lovable and extremely well-developed for how short this story was. But besides critical viewpoints this story is a creative example of a thinking mind. Baum brought us a rowsing adventure about a young girl swept away by a tornado from her home in Kansas. Just a great story, that, just like Alice In Wonderland will be readable at any age.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Fantastic, breath-taking, and thought provoking, 12. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Childhood's End (Taschenbuch)
...This book questions humanity and our never-ending search foranswers to life's most elusive questions. This book touches heart andmind in a way really no book has before. Clarke is both imaginative and a poetic dreamer, and writes with a fantastic ease. This book is very edgy in a very subtle way. Clarke could have used a shoot-em-up style like most modern sci-fi writers but he opted for a more original tension. This book is classic science fiction at it's finest. END

All Creatures Great and Small
All Creatures Great and Small

4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent...., 5. April 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: All Creatures Great and Small (Taschenbuch)
I picked this book up one day with no clue as to what it was. After having read it I've concluded that it's the best story that I've read concerning animals (excluding animal farm). It also helped me understand life as a veternarian (at least some fifty years ago!) I've also come to the conclusion that Herriot has created a brilliant novel in his first try that have taken so many others years to complete. Synopsis: A heart-warming true tale of a veternarian named Dr. James Herriot in the late 30s in Yorkshire, England.

Nephilim: The Truth Is Here (Nephilim Series the Nephilim)
Nephilim: The Truth Is Here (Nephilim Series the Nephilim)
von Lynn A. Marzulli
  Taschenbuch

4.0 von 5 Sternen I didn't give it enough recognition the first time, 1. April 2000
When I wrote my first review of this book I was a little dissapointed but now that I think about it this book was extremely good; for a first time effort from a Christian writer. Yes, again the dialogue is pretty lame but what can you work with if you're writing a Christian book about modern times-tough! I think that Marzulli did an excellent job. The scripture references are accurate and the reader should not be discouraged by any of the other biblical text. I also said, armed with the mind-what was I thinking! This book was probably meant to stress Marzulli's personal opinion on the power of prayer. Hats off Marzulli to a wonderfull first-time effort!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Superb fiction, 4. März 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Dracula (Signet Classics) (Taschenbuch)
This book was amazingly revolutionary, very sexual, very violent, very controversial, and very spiritual. Some of the other readers must have been expecting to read something like Anne Rice, but you have to understand when this was written. Bram Stoker was taking a big risk with this book and that's strongly evident in the way this book is worded. The style was also new to the time; no one would have really thought of writing a book this way. This book was very exciting, contrary to what other readers may have said. Dracula may be hard to read but is a book you'll be glad you'd read when you're done.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Similarities are evident in this satire, 2. März 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Animal Farm (Signet Classics) (Taschenbuch)
The similarities represented in this satire are very evident, I did some reasearch on Trotsky and Stallin....wow! It's so evident it's almost scary. In most books there's underlined meanings, but in this one it's straightforward and to the point. I was reading the other recent review and I thought, "Alternative, what are they talking about, he's been dead for fifty years for one thing, and another thing, he's not Lewis Caroll. Imagine you're him; already hated by many, trying to convey your beliefs about Communism without labeling human characters Trotsky or Joseph. C'mon this is classic literature. It may not be the best written but there are still some good ideas set forth in this book."

5.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting...., 2. März 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: 1984 (Taschenbuch)
I read this book, curious on government issues during the late 40's. I was shocked at what lie beyond the doors of this classic novel. Orwell has introduced me to a society where propoganda dominates. today, I can easily relate this to the media and press. Orwell wanted to clarify his stand on Communism and propoganda and did so with this intriguing work of literature. What lie beyond the doors of room 101? As I say, something worse then death....

I'm usually rather picky with what I read, so I was almost struck when I found myself getting into this book. I heartily enjoyes it, not only that but it's a great tale of valor and chivalry. It's very underrated and undertaken. I say read it, however, younger readers may find themselves a little confused with dialogue, and often time Stevenson managed to leave out vital details.

Something Wicked This Way Comes (A Leo Waterman mystery)
Something Wicked This Way Comes (A Leo Waterman mystery)
von Ray Bradbury
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 6,10

5.0 von 5 Sternen Captures innocence, 29. Januar 2000
This book was awesome. It caotures youth and innocence with simple words and phrases. I've always enjoyes Bradbury's works and this was no exception. This book is worth the trouble of reading. It's fast-paces (unlike what others have said about), easy to read, fun, and almost scary in a rather peculiar way. I was reading this book every time I had a chance. Young or old, read this book to relive memories past and present.
