3.0 von 5 Sternen Sometime good people do bad things., 23. Juli 2000
One thing this book does do is make you look at the witch differently. It becomes clear that there are reasons she's doing everything she does. She doesn't do it just for evil.
This book was entertaining but a little long on the social commentary. I found I was getting bored but it got better towards the end. I'm glad I stuck with it.
One word of warning though - this takes place in the Baum Oz not the movie Oz. You will still understand what's going on but there are scenes the movie adds that aren't in the book that are skipped over ( like the fact that the witch in the books doesn't appear as soon as Dorothy get to Oz. ) This is only slightly confusing but very easy to figure out. Essentially - don't worry about it - you'll be able to figure out what's going on anyway.
Very interesting though the relationship between the Witch and Glinda ( yes there is one. )
And we finally learn the witch's first name! But you'll have to read it to find out.....

But to read about other people doing it - it's great. This is well written, well thought out and just plain fun. Admittedly it's a little disturbing seeing what our world becomes but it sure was funny visiting there (don't want to live there though.)
Great at making you think and plain fun.

2.0 von 5 Sternen So where's the magic?, 28. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Practical Magic (Taschenbuch)
I read this, got done and said 'Huh? Did I miss the point?' I'm sure someone else would say 'Oh it's a character study.' Me - I like a plot. There didn't seem to be much of one here.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not at all like the movie...., 28. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Exit to Eden (Taschenbuch)
This isn't like the movie but centers on the relationship between Lisa and Elliot and why Lisa does what she does. The sex plays a back seat. It does make you start to wonder why people do what they do.
At first, I didn't care for the book but I do find I think about it every once in a while and wish I hadn't given my copy to the local book sale. I'd probably re-read it.

First Person Plural: My Life As a Multiple
First Person Plural: My Life As a Multiple
von Cameron West
  Gebundene Ausgabe

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good but left me wanting...., 28. Juni 2000
This talks mostly about finding out he was a multiple. It didn't really go into what happened them which I would have been interested in.
Overall though - brings great insight into what it must be like to be a multiple and what happens when you find out what's going on.

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter)

4.0 von 5 Sternen Anita Blake Rocks!, 28. Juni 2000
All of the Anita Blake books I have read have been great fun. This whole thing is thrust on her and now she has to cope! (And how would you like vampires showing up on your doorstep!)
Really great read!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Not about the power, more about what the power brings, 28. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Benjamin's Gift (Gebundene Ausgabe)
When I first saw this, I thought it was going to be a sci-fi book and that's what I expected. What I found instead was a sweet touching story about two people, one of whom has a special ability but it doesn't center around that. It's more the interaction of the people.
In some ways, this reminds me of Anne Tyler's Patchwork Planet.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Clarifies stuff we already knew., 27. Juni 2000
So it's true - we all already know this stuff anyway. But this does help in seeing what kind of people we are and how we react to change. I found the appendix that talks about the book more interesting than the book itself.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great writer, wonderful insight, 27. Juni 2000
Not only he have some good insight, but he's just a darn good writer. A lot of what he says seems totally obvious once he says it, but he puts it in a way that is clear and extremely understandable.
Great book!

Nicolae: The Rise of Antichrist (Left Behind)
von Jerr Lahaye Tim Jenk
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 12,25

3.0 von 5 Sternen Is the series getting old?, 26. Juni 2000
I loved Left Behind, thought Tribulation Force was really good. This book though spends to much time explaining what already happened. I almost had the feeling you could pick this book up and you'd know as much as what happened having started with #1.
Don't get me wrong - it's still a good book. I just think #1 and #2 were better. Hopefully #4, ... will be better. I do plan on reading them.
