An Ambush of Tigers (English Edition)
An Ambush of Tigers (English Edition)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Not Monroes best, but enjoyable: Tigers in Texas, 24. Juli 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Having read nearly all of Monroes books, I have to say there are some I think are terrific (like In the shadow of the Wolf, Highland Wolf, Hungry like the wolf, Savage Heat) for enjoyable reading with interesting interactions of the average human confronted with the supernatural, lots of amusing dialogue and comical situations and some like "The Mating" where story takes a backseat to steamy, which I personally don't like as much. An Ambush of Tigers is not going to be one of my favorites. The idea behind the story was interesting (didn't really know Texas had so many tigers !), and learning a part of them is supernatural- the idea is fascinating. A bit of surfing showed that Monroe describes reality here and the terrible circumstances portrayed in the first chapters concerning the living conditions of the two male heroes, Konar and Damian, are really gruesome. And you just have to love Abby for her work helping this maltreated species. The first part of the book jumps from Abby to Damian and through time, so one has to concentrate but after a time you get sucked in. Damian and Konar are saved and taken to Abbys Sanctuary, where they interact with Abby in untigerlike way. Both tigers know they are shifters, just not how to shift being to young when taken from their families. A many-layered crisis occurs, their lifes are threatened, and they find a way to shift on their own, a great feat as far as were-society is concerned. They are integrating into human society in a blink, showing skills like reading. That is when the rules you thought were established in building this alternate world shift. Part of my problem is that Konar and Damian know next to nothing about shifter-society and every so often something is told as "just the way things are" for shifters and their laws. Thinking the love triangle was as far from indoctrinated by shifter rules as well as knowledgable about the dire situation of many a tiger in Texas I wished they would have more of an impact on traditions, founding their own. Alas, it isn't to be; after being found by tiger society and being established as dominants happens a rather mediocre HEA, it feels like the individual character traits get lost and I felt swamped with a lot of average information making the outlook on the protagonists foggier and less individual rather than clearer. So, lots of potential and maybe to great expectations on my side. Anyhow, it is a can read and not an absolutely must read.

Bride of Atlantis (The Atalantium Trilogy Book 1) (English Edition)
Bride of Atlantis (The Atalantium Trilogy Book 1) (English Edition)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Story gut, aber Vorsicht: Reissue, 24. Juli 2012

5.0 von 5 Sternen How to romance a burned woman supervised by mindreading parents and cousins, 1. Mai 2012
This novel has all I had been getting to expect in an Argeneau-novel and missed out in some of her latest. Sure, there are more or less ever the same points to be met: immortal meets human (mostly pushed by the Argeneau matriarch Marguerite) and both have to find their way to HEA. The fun is derived by the set of full-fledged characters, some of them old friends. I especially like that there is so much humor in the stories and funny situations but neither forced comedy nor schadenfreude. Sands gets us to laugh with her characters without being mean.
In this sequel Marguerite, honeymooning with Julius on St Lucia in a resort mainly filled with honeymooners, finds Christians lifemate. Unter a vampire moon differs in the setup as far as now Marguerite "meddles" openly and Christian is well aware of the fact. Difficulties lie in charming a once burned and soon to be divorced lady that she isn't a cougar or robbing a cradle given she's 42. Then the oh so helpful family (we get to know quite a lot of Notte-cousins, and since Marguerite is now Argeneau-Notte... :-) furthers Christians courtship by letting Carolyn, the heroine, believe Christians italien conservative family would disown him for being gay if she won't fake being his girlfriend. So Christian has his work cut out for him!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Short and not satisfying excerpt, 6. April 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
After getting to know the main character of this novella in the first Alpa Pack novel and being intrigued, I bought this one. Apart from having to realize a third of the content is a teaser for "savage awakening", the story falls short. Kalen follows Mac into a bar, the monster waits in the parking lot and an evil voice makes its appearence. Suffice it to say, neither the love affair nor the overall plot of Alpha Pack fighting evil scientists is really furthered. Everything could be condensed in one short chapter in a full novel. So I'm really sorry for not being able to withstand curiosity and buying. After seeing that a second novella is announced, I think this time I'll abstain.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Can anyone love a dragon or- how to survive a dragons interest?, 6. April 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
This book is a fun read. I think it is an interesting and fast read- I couldn't stop reading. Pia, a half-Wyr has lived her life under constant pressure, since her mother was an unique creature and Pias ancestry means secrecy is the road to survival. Tired of being alone and feeling hunted she gives in to the hunger for love and tells her boyfriend about some of her special gifts, and so she ends being pressured to steal of a dragon. This theft, a thief desecrating his hoard, is hard to accept for Dragos Cuelebre, immortal Wyr and absolute lord of his demesne. Completely baffled is he when he sees the thief left another Penny for the stolen one and a note saying "I'm sorry". Pia flees, the dragon is intrigued and follows. The following chain of events revolves around the big bad king of the dark fae keen on finding, capturing and using the thief and killing Cuelebre. What starts with Cuelebre trying to trap Pia with an erotic dream grows to a sizzling mutual attraction when meeting in the flesh and to an quickly developing relationship. Along the action we get to know about this interesting world where supernaturals and humans coexists. The worldbuilding is consistent, the dialogue lovable. A full cast of interesting secondary characters makes one hunger for more. It's also one of the books to reread and to be delighted about previously not seen details...

4.0 von 5 Sternen Interesting amalgam of fantasy and history, 6. April 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Hasan is more than a scoundrel, he is an egotistical wastrel and tops a career in carousing and wasting with gambling away the precious mares in his fathers stable. The father, sharif in Kairo, despairs of him and designates him for the harder life with the beduins. On his last day as a free socialite, he crowns his actions with raping the daughter of the magus that sheltered him. For the first time he faces consequences- the magus gives his inner beast form, condemns him to life as a stallion, puts him under the geas to serve a woman- and this woman happens to be the daughter of his houses archenemy and friend to Saladin. Zamaniyah has to fill in the role of a son of her house, so she is part of the politics surrounding Saladins way to power as lord of egypt and his quarrel with the sultan of Syria who is allied to the hashishin of Aleppo. Tarr weaves a tapestry containing mystical elements with historical facts, a whole other spin on hero and heroine getting to know each other. If you like what-ifs instead of hard historical facts, exotic mystique and horses and of a new take getting to know each other and on love with interesting and fascinating characters, this is the perfect story for you.

5.0 von 5 Sternen New tales of the elder races, 8. März 2012
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Grace, Oracle of Louisville, descendant of seers starting with the first Pythia, is new in her job. In Serpent's Kiss, third novel of the elder races, Carling and Rune ventured to see the Oracle to save Carlings life. To get there in time, the former Queen used the power of the Djinn-Prince Khalil. Grace, new to her job, was not very graceful and very curt with the proud Khalil.
Oracle's Moon introduces the Witches Demesne and Nightkinds Demesne. Grace, the not very polite young woman, hasn't been oracle for long, and she hasn't been prepared for this job. Sure, it is hereditary, but she was the second daughter, her sister the happily married Oracle, mother of two. In an accident Grace lost sister and her spouse, got crippled (her left leg) and has now to care for niece and nephew, is jobless and doesn't know how she will go on. Carling and Rune needing the Oracle's power and bringing with them Khalil, being followed by Drago and other major players doesn't sit well with Grace. Khalil promised to protect the children, but will he really do it?
Khalil, on the other hand, is not favorably impressed by the rude young human woman. Since he didn't set a term for his protection, he continues and interacts with the children- and Grace. As Grace has to master her new power, Khalil has to learn how to interact with humans- witty dialogue and comical scenes accompany a suspenseful and often dramatic story. A strong heroine partnered with a strong alpha hero, a fascinating relationship, peeks of Cuelebre, Carling and Rune- thanks, Thea!
