4.0 von 5 Sternen Will a truly New WORLD Order come about?, 26. Juli 2012
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
According to Mark Dice in his well-written, concise & lucid review of the current New World Order (N.W.O.) conspiracy theories, it will. His common sense approach to "vetting out" the facts from the myths from open source information (the only available) of N.W.O. conspiracy theories has provided a fairly accurate account of a potential threat to world order. He says this threat comes from various groups formed during the Age of Enlightenment (1600-1800).

As defined in Wiki, The Age of Enlightenment was a cultural movement of intellectuals in 18th century Europe and the United States, whose purpose was to reform society and advance knowledge. It promoted science and intellectual interchange and OPPOSED superstition, intolerance and abuses by church and state.

During the Age of Enlightenment, various intellectual groups were rebelling against the system and had to meet in "secret" to discuss their ideas on how to reform society for the betterment of all or they would be "eliminated". From this movement came the American Revolution and others later. These groups were trying to bring about a positive "Utopian" Society or a N.W.O (as defined by Thomas More, HG Wells, BF Skinner and others) for ALL people. However over time, technology may improve, but human nature has not. This author believes the Illuminati, Freemasons and to a lesser extent the Rosicrucians and other "elite" groups have been infiltrated by wealthy, powerful, "evil" people into these secret societies with the intent to influence social & political change and bring about a dark "Orwellian" dystopian N.W.O. Future controlled by just a few and the rest of us held subservient to them. Most of his points are based on the decline of American society and cannot really be taken as a worldwide phenomenon.

Seeing human nature for what it is, I believe these individuals and groups that he defines as having "god-like delusions" across the world will never unite to bring about a Global Order. They will never let the other groups control then. However, I can see a country or regional New Order occurring. For example, look at the current North Korea.

Remember the quote from the book "1984" - "Big Brother is watching you!" In the future, keep your eyes and ears open !

Rezension bezieht sich auf: In Due Time (Kindle Edition)
A well written Orwellian near future which I almost believed to be true (Just joking) with a time travel twist to the plot. This New World Order and neo-revolution genre has picked up in popularity the last few years with writers such as Orson Scott Card and others. However, J. Keith Jones is on par with these other famous writers with his first story.

He treats this story line with a fresh approach. A "Guiding hand" through time travel to influence the future by creating the "correct" alternative history and shape the future back to a new American Republic. Read the book, I do not want to spoil the plot.

When an author makes me fantasize and reflect further about the subject, he has done his job and this book is great. Well worth the price and time to read it. It was a page turner and I recommend it to readers who enjoy the alternative future & time travel story lines.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Yali's Questions Answered ?, 30. März 2012
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Jared Diamond's 1998 Pulitzer Prize winning popular science book presents, in some circles, a controversial theme or even racist explanation for the differences in the development of societies over time. However, the author states early on "the modern world's inequalities: why did human development proceed at such different rates on different continents? Those disparate rates constitute history's broadest pattern and my books subject." In addition, to counter the racist's question he states "History follows different courses for different people because of differences in environments, not because of biological difference"

He proceeds in a well written logical progression to explain this thesis throughout the book starting with spread of humans around the world and the beginnings of civilization and the various rates at which they have developed. He proceeds to explain that there are four sets of factors which have caused the unequal speed and development of civilizations between the various continents. They are:

1. Differences in the wild plants and animal species available for domestication.

2. Factors affecting the rates of human diffusion and migration which differed greatly among continents.

3. Diffusion between continents, which may also help build up and spread these domesticates and technology.

4. Continental differences in area or total population size which with a larger area or population gives that society more opportunity to develop.

Which brings us to his main conclusion: "All human societies contain inventive people which speeds development. It's just that some environments provide more starting material and more favorable conditions for utilizing inventions, than do other environments."

You will not find footnotes in this book because it is popular science and not a scientific treatise. However, at the back of the book, you will find a well-organized Further Reading section if you want to dig into more detail of his presentation and concepts.

Overall, the book presented well the themes, concepts and overall conclusions, which I had thought for years, to be the reasons for the differences in societies. Mr. Diamond just presented it a better way !

5.0 von 5 Sternen The "New Age" US Army, 29. März 2012
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Men Who Stare At Goats (Kindle Edition)
Jon Ronson a "Gonzo" Journalist, non-fiction writer & documentary film maker in his 3rd book claims the US Army in the late 1970's and early 1980's adopted New Age concepts and developed psychological warfare techniques, non-lethal weapon systems and "human potential movement" for use in US Army units. His many vignettes are based on the stories told by "real people" who were involved in the initial development of many of these "techniques" in the Post-Vietnam 1970's. LTC Jim Channon is a retired US Army officer and developer of "The First Earth Battalion" which he continues to operate as a civilian organization. Did the US Army really have him develop this or did he do it on his own free time and continued his concept after he retired?

As a young US Army MI Officer at the end of the 1970's and early 1980s I had a lot of contact with Special Forces soldiers. In the Cold War years, they talked of "long hair" teams who infiltrated behind enemy lines as civilians and they also talked about those OTHER "long hair" teams. Maybe a test unit? Special Forces is trained in "unconventional" warfare which means "thinking outside of the box". The US Army does experiment with "new" concepts and some I have seen could be considered a bit "whacky". Unfortunately for the author, he can only report the stories of the people who told him and cannot get an official substantiation to prove that these "stories" are true or not.

The Army has been involved for years in developing non-lethal weapons such as BZ gas in the 1960's, Psychological warfare and many non-lethal weapons systems. After 9-11 a new interest in the development of these systems to help reduce collateral damage began and I think a lot of discussion was going on in military circles that Ronson picked up on and started to investigate the beginnings of this for his book.

Maybe we will know after 2030 when documents form the 1980's are declassified or we will find out if thrsr were just the "fantasies" of former military personnel.

The book was fun "escapist" reading whether you believe the various storylines in the book or not. He writes well, it is humorous with a "conspiracy" twist. Great weekend or beach reading!

This is a well-written, concise, fair, unbiased, biography of Thomas Jefferson. If you are person who has an interest in Thomas Jefferson and do not have the time or desire to read the prolific and lengthy biographies written about him, then this book is for you.

Bernstein highlights the major ides, accomplishments and the highs and lows of "TJ's" life. You will learn the essentials of this man and walk away with a better understanding of who was Thomas Jefferson and what did he stand for?

The book is well annotated. A chronology of Jefferson's life is provided, as well as, further reading list to continue on if you want more detail on one of our Founding Fathers and 3rd President of the US. Thomas Jefferson was a controversial figure with many conflicting ideas and actions. The author handles this in a "fair and unbiased" manner based on the current information that was available at the time he wrote it.

I highly recommend this book as the starting point for your studies of Thomas Jefferson. I wish there were more autobiographies like this on other "Great Persons" in American history.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Can the Top 5% Save the American Dream?,, 6. Februar 2012
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
In his latest book, Mr. Murray, a libertarian, argues (based on his statistical interpretation & analysis) on the decline of the white "American Community". He brings together 4 basic themes.

1. Divergence of the American classes resulting from a conflict in the cultural & social values of those from the "New" upper class ("Belmont") opposed to those of the "new" lower class ("Fishtown").

2. Decline in marriage, religion, industriousness & traditional values of the "American Culture"

3. Income inequalities leading to some form of an advanced European welfare state in the US.

4. Isolation or geographic separation of the "new" classes and the resultant loss of civic and social responsibility between them.

To keep the race card out this time, he writes in the book "This book uses evidence based overwhelmingly on "whites" in the new upper & lower class." In part one, it begins with his discussion about the "new" upper class which he calls the people living in "Belmont", the "qualifying" 20% represented by the 5% narrow elite (avg. Household income of $287K - 2010 census data), who have isolated themselves into their own neighborhoods and "cultural" groups from the rest of us. He describes them as the ones with the top educations, jobs and living conditions. They pass their wealth, "brains" and cultural values onto their children who continue to maintain this lifestyle into the future.

In Part II, he describes the new lower class which he calls the people living in "Fishtown" - the bottom 20% of the "white" (non-Hispanic) population. He describes them as the ones, who have loss the "work ethic", who are raising families out of wedlock and have disengaged from the "American Community" at large. As he states, it is this collapse of the "Founding Virtues" of America: family, vocation, faith and community that is leading to decline of America.

His solutions are many. Reduce the "welfare state" and bring back responsibility for oneself and family. As Mr. Murray states, "it is easier (for "Belmonters") to let the government deal with problems in your community that you and your neighbors formerly had to take care of". But, he writes this is the wrong approach. He writes the "Belmonters" need to "engage themselves" with the rest and "preach what they practice" to the "Fishtowners".

However, I think it is somewhat unrealistic to believe that the top 5% are going to drive from their gated communities in "Belmont" to meet in the Waffle House of "Fishtown" and "preach" their values to this group. There are many obvious problems in "Americas Classless" society, but the problems are a lot more complicated to solve than what he argues as his solutions in this book. However, it is a good effort to "wake" people up again to some of the sociological problems facing America today.

Expect in this election year to see more books published on - What is wrong with America and Why.

Read the Book First, and then watch the DVDs. You will appreciate it more.

Ambrose is a wonderful writer and brings to life the men and their prospective of war in an Airborne Infantry Company during WWII. It starts with their initial training and follows them through to the end of the war as they occupy Hitler's Eagles nest. Through his writing style you begin to empathize with the men of the company and the trials, tribulations and suffering they go through in "modern" combat.

This book is on the required Army Chief of Staff's reading list for US Army officers & NCOs. And if you enjoy military history, this is one of the best books and should be on your reading list too.

This is a very interesting alternative historical fiction story in the style of Harry Turtledove. From the 1870's until the start of WWI, the German General Staff had developed many campaign and battle plans. This one may be based on an actual plan as the author states, but never was executed because the German staff knew it was almost impossible to invade the USA.

This is good escapist fiction and was a real page turner. Yes, some of the historical material may not be correct, but it does not affect the overall story line. Having studied military history, I enjoyed the way he developed the rapid advancements to the changes that American army was actually making at the conclusion of the Spanish American war and now accelerated due to the invasion by Germany.

If you like Harry Turtledove's books, you will enjoy this one too from Robert Conroy.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Disappearing Spoon (Kindle Edition)
If you never really had an interest in Chemistry or it has been a long time since you have taken courses in this subject, this book is not a review of Chemistry; but a really good look at the "background" of the human dimensions and some of the esoteric advances of Chemistry as seen through the discovery of the elements and the development of the periodic table over time.

The author has a "unique" sense of humor and his writing style gets you into the "feel" of the vignettes he writes about the various elements and people who discovered them. Having a BA in Chemistry ( I never really used it in my career over 35 years), from this book I learned a lot of historical facts about Chemistry my professors never told me or some of the unique uses and "bizarre" properties of the chemical elements.

This is very good popular science book and I recommend it to someone who is not into the "science" of science of Chemistry, but wants to learn about the elements with a historical & "sociological" prospective.

The graphics and footnotes in the kindle edition worked well. I had to print a copy of the periodic table out to review when I was reading. It was too difficult with the kindle to "jump" to the included periodic table which is always easier done with a book.
