1.0 von 5 Sternen Books on Demand Printing Errors, 26. Februar 2013
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
I ordered this book because it promised to cover the updated essentials of the current factors influencing Intercultural Business Communication. Alas, either there is a software error at the printig press, or the editors have not paid particular attention to the quality of the finished product. There following pages are 'blank' where printing should be: page 18; 42; 45; 49; 53; 73; 95; 99. I requested a replacement be sent of the book, which I duely received - however with exactly the same printing errors. As these 8 pages have been omitted from the final product I can't recommend it. I am returning both copies to amazon.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent Quality, Slow Loading Time, No Memory, 7. August 2008
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Had this wonderful Blu-Ray Player for the past month. The picture quality is excellent and 7.1 Sound is marvellous. The only problem is the slow loading time for a blu-ray disc as well as lack of built-in memory for the BD 2.0 content. Sure you could use a memory stick, but considering the price it should have been included. Another negative is, although you have the Viera Link if you own a Panasonic TV, the remote of the older TVs don't have the same functionalities at the blu-ray player's remote, thus not making two remotes obsolete. Important, the current model needs a firmware update as well, so you need to download a patch before your player is up-to-date. Other than that, it is well worth the price, considering it is the first player offering Internet connectivity. If it is worth it without an actual internal hard-drive remain to be seen. Thus, the player only gets 4 stars out of 5.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Cuban Masterpiece, 1. Mai 2006
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Buena Vista Social Club (Audio CD)
I have no words to describe how brilliant this recording is. Buena Vista Social Club bring alive the music that has sustained Cuba as far back as the 1920s. Listening to the likes of Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez, Eliades Ochoa, Compay Segundo and Omara Portuondo paint a picture of a vibrant and soulful Cuba from the not too distant past. Needless to say, all musicians on this album have such incredible talent, that it is difficult to believe that we've missed out on such a musical extravagance for over 50 years. I have not come across a singer that can deliver such heartfelt passion in their music like Ibrahim Ferrer (83) and Compay Segundo (93), but the person that moved me the most on this recording was the 77 year old pianist Ruben Gonzalez. You just have to listen to PUEBLO NUEVO and MURMULLO to realise this man's incredible talent. It is hard to believe that Ruben virtually had given up playing due to arthritis in his hands, and that he has no piano at home.

It is amazing to think that none of the musicians received recognition at the height of their careers, and seeing their current living conditions is a humbling experience. Nonetheless, I am happy that they achieved fame at last. All songs on this album are masterpieces. This recording is worth ten times its price, and it is one of my most treasured CDs in my music collection. It is a nostalgic, yet brilliant piece of Cuba.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Absolutely Stunning!, 1. Mai 2006
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
I came across George RR Martin by browsing the Fiction Fantasy section of my favourite bookstore. Since the book received some good reviews, even by Raymond Feist, I decided to give it a try.

Was I surprised! After the first two chapters I was totally hooked. George writes with such compelling conviction and style that it was very hard to put the book down. He introduces us to a world that is imaginative, where the characters are richly described and developed that they almost seem tangible. It is in the characters many individual facets of development that I find myself astonished as to the extent that George is prepared to take them. He thus masterfully sets the scene for a haunting and intriguing saga that will stay with you long after you read the book.

A GAME OF THRONES introduces us to four main families: The Starks, the Baratheons, the Lannisters and the Targaryens. Even though these are the main ones, there are others as well weaved within the above families, and plenty of smaller independent families. These pave the way later for some great plots and sub-plots.

Lord Eddard Stark, the Warden of the north, is instructed to be the Hand of the King in the south. Since Lord Eddard is a man of honour, he finds himself torn between his friendship for the king and the treachery that is evident at court. He finds it difficult to choose in that the choices are not as simple as right or wrong, but rather it becomes a choice between the lesser of two evils. It is here that Eddard learns of the rumoured murder of his predecessor, the imminent danger to his family, and the vile secrets that threaten to destroy the kingdom.

I read with wonder as evil defeated the innocent, yet it was heartening to see the innocent grow strong in the midst of their defeat. The one drawback I found in this story was the introduction of too many characters. This, at times, made it difficult to follow the development of these characters.

A GAME OF THRONES is well written and the characters are memorable. George RR Martin has become one of my favourite authors in the Fiction Fantasy genre. I proudly display his work next to LORD OF THE RINGS and THE MAGICIAN. It is a masterpiece of epic proportions that sets a new standard in Fiction Fantasy writing. I look forward to more.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A slow start, with a promise to be better, 1. Mai 2006
This is the first book of Tad Williams that I have read, and on the whole, I found it satisfying, but not great. Although some central characters are memorable, this is not necessarily true for all of them. We meet Simon, the young kitchen boy who spends his time daydreaming in order to escape the dullness of castle life, and Binabik, a noble and endearing troll, who later in the book becomes Simon's most faithful companion throughout his adventure. With the exception of Pryrates (who is Elias's dark and sinister advisor), the rest of the characters seem to lack the necessary depth to make them noteworthy. Nevertheless, they are enjoyable.

I found the fist 200 pages to be tedious and arduous to read through, but then the pace picks up considerably. Simon's flight underneath the Hayholt is nothing short of memorable. It is here that Tad Williams shines as a writer. He succeeds in bringing to life the fascinating and unexplored glimpses of the realm of the Sithi, a culture Simon knows very little about, yet it becomes a central part to his existence. Thus Tad slowly sets the scene to this epic story. At times though, I got the feeling that Tad tries too hard to be like Tolkien, as there are obvious resemblances to "The Lord of the Rings" in certain passages of book.

I loved Tad's use of Simon's name with regards to his development as a character throughout the book. In the opening chapter Simon is described as "Simon Mooncalf", then proceeds to bestow upon him various other titles as he develops and matures: Simon Pilgrim, King Simon of the Tunnels, etc. The book ends with Simon being called "Seoman Snowlock", which leaves us with a taste of things to come in the sequel.

On the whole, Tad Williams is a talented writer; the story is enjoyable, even if at places it is a bit bland. Notwithstanding, Tad has done enough to wet our appetite for the sequel "Stone of Farewell".

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Spiritual Love Story, 1. Mai 2006
This is a book written for all romantics at heart. Paulo Coelho has written another superb novel based on the power of love, faith and hope. This book is inspirational, and pushes us to believe and learn to recognise the little miracles that appear to us each day. Dreams do take hard work, patience and a lot of tears, but the author teaches us never to loose hope. Paulo manages to move and inspire through this story. Excellent! It made me trust in love again!
