"The Secret of the Forest" ist ein wunderschönes Malbuch für Erwachsene.

Lewis is excited. For the first time, he leaves home. He is going to college, where he will share a flat with other guys and have to take care of himself. He knows, this will be a whole new experience and he looks forward to it. But life has more surprises in stock for him than new friends, parties and new knowledge from his college courses. One of his roommates is Max. An out and proud, handsome young man, with a sad past and a sparkling personality, that seems the complete opposite of collected Lewis. Still, they become fast friends and Max makes Lewis come out of his shell. But Lewis soon notices, that it isn’t just friendship he feels for Max. He wants him – as lover and boyfriend. When Max’ boyfriend cheats on him, he and Lewis, land after a lot of wine and comfort food, in bed together. But the next day, Max tells Lewis, he doesn’t want to risk their friendship, with a rebound. Their attraction to each other is strong. Even so, they both try to make it work as friends, even if Lewis still wants more. Then a trip home brings Lewis news, that make him need Max’ friendship more then ever, but also strenghten his wish for love and closeness. Maybe he has to move on?
“Not Just Friends” written by Jay Northcote and narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies is a sweet “Friends to lovers” romance, told to us from the POV of Lewis – a young man, who leaves home for the first time, to go to college and has suddenly more on his plate than figuring out his new courses and taking care of himself for the first time. Lewis always thought he was straight, but his new best friend Max fascinates him so much. Even Lewis’ ex-girlfriend never evoked such strong feelings in him. And a night in Max Arms, gives him hope, that Max feels the same. But these two have some more hurdles to overcome, before they can find their happiness together.

The Story starts with introducing Lewis, his family and his new flatmates. And just like Lewis’, the listeners calm gets shaken up, with Max’ arrival in the flat, he and Lewis will share with three other boys. Max’ is sparkling, catches your attention and you just want to get to know him. From the second, he was part of the story, I was completely drawn in. Just like Lewis was. Even if they seem like complete opposites, the two young men fit and their friendship was fast but very believable. You could see, what Lewis’ sees in Max, even in the moments Max hurts him. Max is never malicious or selfish. He just has fears and lived trough a lot of pain. Max also makes Lews go out, take chances and embrace life. He brings color and fun, to shy and collected Lewis and deeply cares for his friend.
But Max also confuses Lewis. So much. Jay Northcotes writing gives you a lot of insight in Lewis feelings and thoughts. So you can’t help but feel with him. His forementioned confusion, his yearning and pining, his heartbreak and the love he feels for Max. The story completely sucks you in. Matthew Lloyd Davies narration catches you and he gives the characters life and their own voice. He fitted the story perfectly. Often I just wanted to hug Lewis’ and tell Max that getting a boyfriend, doesn’t have to mean losing a best friend. With Lewis’ words: “Can’t you be both?”. To be so drawn into an audiobook, both the writing and narration have to be exquisite and for me “Not Just Friends” had both.
If you love catching and sweet “Friends to Lovers”-Stories, search no more. You just found a perfect companion for a few hours, well spent in the flat of some cute college boys.

Julian Hallowell is done pining over his roommate Danny. For a year, he dreamed Julian would see him as more as friend. Julian did everything to get noticed, but nothing worked. Danny just kept on with hooking up with the next twink and teasing Julian for his romantic ideas. So Julian decides, it’s time to move on. He needs to get out, date and find Mr. Right somewhere else. So when handsome Andy asks him out, Julian says yes, telling himself he’s totally over Danny. But he made this bet, without Danny.

“As You Are” by Ethan Day is a romantic Comedy, that will keep you hooked to your headphones. I started the book, because it was another one read by Jason Frazier, whose narration I absolutly adored in “Blame It on the Mistletoe” by Eli Easton. So I got this book, as soon as my credits with audible were renewed. And it was such a fun to listen to this book. Julians way of telling us about his life, dreams, family and friends is hilarious. Sometimes he comes across as a spoiled brat, I usually wouldn’t like very much, but he has a good heart and wants to do the right things, so you can’t help but root for him and care about him. There were some characters I never started to care for, on the other hand. I could never like his best friend Gabby. She is exactly the kind of woman, I would make an effort to not have to meet her in my daily life, (“Dinner Party? Sorry I have this family thing coming up!”) even if you feel how much she cares about Julian. And I hated Andy. I always saw him as kind of creepy and waited for him, to show a dark stalker side or something. Every time, he complimented Julian or wanted to meet up with him again I thought by myself: “Get lost, you creep! Julian, get the Pepper Spray and don’t let the dirty man touch you!”. On the other hand, I really liked Danny. He is a great friend to Julian and okay, he did something very stupid, but don’t we all sometimes? And maybe this is exactly why this story worked so well for me. Both MCs are flawed, but together they are perfect. You can see it, their friends and family can see it, maybe even Julian and Danny can see it, but they just need the shove in the right direction and the incentive to open their mouth and actually talk and not do … something else ;) with it. If they get to it, is the other question, isn’t it? And for me it was great, that not all characters where likeable. That I don’t liked all friends of the MC’s etc, because this is reality for you. You won’t like every person you meet, even if they are friends of your (best) friends. This happened to me more than once, actually.

What I totally loved about “As You Are” is that the story is not predictable. I was kept guessing until the end, how everything will work out and if there will be the “Happily Ever After” you wish for or the “Happy For Now” Julian might settle for, because … nope, not going to spoil you.
Ethan Day created something incredible here, because usually, if you buy a Romance Story, you are 99.99% sure, who the MC will end up with. Not so, in this book. I needed nearly as many cigarettes listening to this book, as Gabby and Julian smoke in it, because I was kept guessing and fumbling arround in the dark. This definitly isn’t the last story by this author, I will listen to or read.

Speaking of Cigarettes – Hello there, Jason Frazier! I felt like I needed one, after the naughty scenes, too. Girls and boys, I said it once, I say it again. He is an incredible narrator for audiobooks – ALL the parts. Not just what you think. He always gets the right pitch, for every scene, every dialogue. His reading is never flawed. He draws you in and keeps you in the book until the very end. Every character has his or her unmistakable voice. I look forward to hear more of him and you all, keep your ears out!

I already knew “Blame It on the Mistletoe” as sweet Christmas Romance. I read it, soon after it came out as e-book. But I was very curious about the audiobook, after it was recommended to me on facebook. And I was so, so not disapointed that I decided getting it, even if I read the book already. A major reason is the narrator Jason Frazier who is just incredible. I listen to many audiobooks and I can only say he set the bar very high for my next purchases. He doesn’t just lend his voice to the characters, for me he is Fielding and Mick now. He brought them to life trough my headphones. And the steamy scenes. Just wow. Hot, hotter than hot. I have a long list of books now, which I would love for him to record.
Also, “Blame It on the Mistletoe” is just such a lovely story. Fielding and Mick are characters you fall for hard and fast, because they are just so cute. Mick is so oblivous, but so sweet and caring and Fieling is … with Micks words: Just Fielding. I love how snarky he is and how excited about life. An excitement every one of us, needs sometimes. You can’t help it, but root for these two with all your heart. Eli Easton created a heartwarming story, which only flaw is, that it is too short. Not that it doesn’t work for the story, you love it just so much, that you don’t want it to end. She is one of those story tellers, who just weave their world around you and take you in. Who make you forget everything around you. I will certainly read more of this author soon!
And yes, you can totally listen to a Christmas Story in January. I will listen to it many more times, even in the heat of summer. Thank you Eli Easton for creating this lovable boys and thank you Jason Frazier for bringing them to life. (P.S. Fielding sounds so cute! <3).
