4.0 von 5 Sternen Kids will love it but as an adult I couldn't get past that jittery I am filming everything on a cell phone style,, 26. November 2014
Filmed in “found footage” style( the fact that you were watching the whole thing through a kids jittery video camera) , EARTH TO ECHO is the story of a group of best friends who spend one last night together before they all move away: the homeowners in their Nevada subdivision are being bought out by the builders of a new Interstate (although the Interstate doesn’t appear to go anywhere or connect with anything) and they will soon all be moving to different parts of the country. Tuck (Astro Bradley) is a techie who is constantly filming his life. Not too long before their last night together the kids figure out that a glitch in the cell phone network is actually a signal of some sort and decide they will spend their last night together investigating the source. This leads them about 20 miles into the desert where they discover a small robotic alien that they name Echo. Echo wants to get home and needs to repair his ship, but he’s very weak. After some debate, the boys decide to help him. Thus begins their long journey into the most memorable night of their lives.

EARTH TO ECHO is a very family friendly movie. The language is fairly clean (there are a few mild swears), there is no nudity, and no real violence. The main message is about the importance of friendship and keeping true to one’s word.

Despite the good things going for it, EARTH TO ECHO suffers to find its own voice. The movie has heavy undertones of a few 1980s movies, such as E.T. and THE GOONIES (even Echo seems to have been inspired by Bupo from CLASH OF THE TITANS) and never rises above those references to really become something original.

Also, even though Echo is the title character, Echo isn’t seen in EARTH TO ECHO very much. The first half of the movie he’s not even on screen, but even after his character is introduced, he spends most of the time hidden away in a backpack.

Other than Echo, the thing I liked most about EARTH TO ECHO was seeing Jason Gray-Stanford. Gray-Stanford played Randy Disher on MONK and I always liked him in that show. It was good to see him on screen again.

EARTH TO ECHO is a movie kids will probably enjoy seeing, but probably isn’t one they will be requesting to view over and over again.

5.0 von 5 Sternen 2 seasons together wow!, 26. November 2014
John Ritter has touched our lives with his spark and classic comedy for more than 2 generations. Three's Company is one such classic TV show that started and boosted his career. They have put the short season 1 together with season 2.Pity I already bought both seasons separetly as soon as they were released in the UK.This is a good deal alot of episodes here.
Three's Company - Seasons 1 and 2 contains some hilarious and creative episodes. You get every episode from season 1 which isn't a full season since the show was a mid-season replacement and season two which is a full season. John Ritter, Joyce DeWitt, and Suzanne Somers had flawless chemistry, and it's the best reason to pick up this beloved show.

Yeah, great start to the series.Pity there are only 6 episodes in the 1st season. Already watched it lots of times.John Ritters humor as usual stands out.

It was a magic moment when they found Jack in the bathtub!

All 25 episodes of the second season are compiled in this set, highlights of which include appearances by Richard Kline's hapless Larry in four episodes (before he joined the cast in season 4), Jack's turn as a nude model in "Jack Takes a Job," an amusing Christmas episode ("Three's Christmas"), and Loni Anderson in the season closer, "Coffee, Tea or Jack."

5.0 von 5 Sternen A great season ,the last with all the original gang from 1st season, 26. November 2014
If you want to experience Three's Company in all of its glory, I would definitely recommend this season above all of the others! I actually own all of the seasons that have been released, but I know that purchasing all box sets can be costly . But if I had to pick a favorite of all of the seasons, Season 3 would be the winner, (Season 2 coming in a close second).

It was at the peak of its popularity in its '78-'79 season and became the #1 US show of the year . It is also the final season with all of the original castmates; at the end of the season, Audra Lindley and Norman Fell's characters( Mr. and Mrs. Roper) made their final appearance before leaving to try their luck with a spin-off; the Ropers would only return for one more episode at the end of Season 5.I remember Norman Fell described as being very broken hearted that he and Audra Lindley weren't allowed to come back to this show after the spin-off "The Ropers" failed to get an audience. (Still hoping they'll release The Ropers and even Three's a Crowd on DVD as well) As much as I love, LOVE, Don Knotts, it would have been to fun to have had all three of them on the series somehow. (Don Knotts doing maintenance?)
The chemistry of the original roommates is amazing and I believe is unmatched in the later seasons with all of the cast changes.

Three's Company has been criticized for being too silly and unbelievable. First of all, I think one of the show's major appeals is that it is so light-hearted and goofy. Its sole purpose is to create laughter through pratfalls and misunderstandings, however outrageous they may be.

In my eyes, this is the absolute best of Suzanne Somers, before her character's stupidity began to become distracting. I felt as though in later seasons, she sounds whiny. Though Chrissy's not the sharpest tool in the shed, her naive personality makes her cute. John Ritter is amazing with his physical comedy, and Joyce DeWitt's character makes for the perfect mediator for Jack and Chrissy. This season is FULL of classic episodes, (my favorites being The Fast, My Sister's Keeper, Larry's Bride, The Best Laid Plans, The Harder They Fall, and Jack Moves Out).

I would recommend this show to anyone who can appreciate the simplicity yet brilliance of this suggestive (by 70's standards) sitcom. Go ahead and knock on that door... you won't regret it!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Schoolday madness holds up well after all these years, 11. November 2014
Welcome to DVD, Mr. Kotter. Born of Gabe Kaplan's stand-up comedy reminiscences, this 1975 series stars the Marxist (as in Groucho) comedian as a teacher who returns to the tough Brooklyn high school of his youth to teach students who are as unmotivated and undisciplined as he was. If Ron Paillo, as "village schmendrik" Arnold Horshack was Kotter's class clown, then John Travolta, as Vinnie Barbarino, the dim leader of the Sweathogs, became this series' "Most Likely to Succeed" star pupil. He gets extra credit for graduating from Teen Beat idol to A-list movie star, and seeing him at the beginning of his roller coaster career is the main fascination. Not to take anything from the rest of the cast, including Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs as Freddie "Boom Boom Washington," Robert Hegyes as self-described "flim-flam man" Juan Epstein, the late John Sylvester White as curmudgeon Mr. Woodman, who remembers Kotter from his delinquent days; and Marcia Strassman (displaying an off-center Diane Keaton quality) as Mrs. Kotter, whose main purpose seems to be an audience for Kotter's jokes that open each episode. This collection contains six episodes from the series' first three seasons: "One Flu Over the Cuckoo's Nest"; "Father Vinnie"; "Sweatside Story"; "I'm Having Their Baby"; "The Deprogramming of Arnold Horshack"; and "Goodbye, Mr. Kripps," something of a Very Special Episode in which Vinnie blames himself for a teacher's heart attack. Welcome Back, Kotter is grade-A nostalgia, but points are taken off for lack of commentary or interviews with Kaplan or any other members of the ensemble who aren't John Travolta. Casting memo to Ice Cube, who is reportedly preparing a big screen remake: Philip Baker Hall for Mr. Woodman! After that, you're on your own.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Very black humor, 17. Juli 2014
Rezension bezieht sich auf: It's a Disaster - Bist du bereit? (DVD)
Several youngish couples gather for a regular Sunday brunch with the one unattached woman in the group bringing along a new boyfriend. Meanwhile, several dirty bombs have been dropped on the city and America is under attack.

Such is the premise for this black comedy which mocks the mating and social habits of thirty-something suburbanites trying to maintain viable and interesting long-term relationships and marriages while beset by triviality and boredom. The movie is well-written and well-acted and often very funny. Despite the cosmic events going on outside the duct-taped semi-detatched house where all the action takes place, these couples remain fixated on their indiscretions and infidelities.

Another couple who always show up late are refused admission and left to die on the doorstep. "You're so inconsiderate. You never come on time. People cook food to be eaten hot and you never come on time," the Julia Stiles character tells her friend outside who is breathing nerve gas.

The new boyfriend turns out to be a scary Christian fundamentalist. The ditzy new age vegan woman is just as shallow as she seems. The nerdy one who buys comic books on e-bay is convinced aliens are attacking. The math teacher who has been engaged for six years but never set a date wants to be a dope fiend.

The ending is perfect!

It's different and very good.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Heartbreaking and Endearing. A gem of a movie.,, 17. Juli 2014
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Mister & Pete gegen den Rest der Welt (DVD)
I am not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this little gem of a movie. I know people have compared it to the movie "Precious" , and if that was any indication, I wasn't looking forward to it. I was one of those rare people who didn't enjoy Sapphire's book of the abused and tortured young girl, Precious. It was a little too depressing for me. Anyway, the story of "Mister & Pete" was just the the end, you have hope. Your spirits soar and you rejoice and think, if two young kids can survive and make it an entire summer on their own, overcoming the challenges of living in a Brooklyn Housing Project and avoiding Child Services, alone.....then they will survive anything.

Mister (yes, that is what his mom named him), a 13-year-old boy is dealing with issues that someone his age shouldn't even know about. He lives in public housing. His mother (who doesn't mind shooting up in front of him) is a drug addicted prostitute. She's even willing to perform a sexual act in a restaurant to pay for dinner. He's failed school and told he will have to repeat his 8th grade year. So what can add to this chaos of his young life....the responsibility and addition of a small 9-year-old named Pete (whose mother is abusive but he believes is a chemist...while in actuality she is an addict, she's cooking meth). As the two scramble for food, avoid the local drug dealers and thieves, and survive for several months on their own, they learn to also dream and have hope.

I expected Jennifer Hudson to be decent in the role of his screwed up mother Gloria, which she was, but what I didn't expect was the talent of Skylan Brooks, who played Mister. While he is one of the main characters, I did not expect him to bring the character of Mister to life in such startling detail. He simply captivated the audience like none of the others in the movie did. He's definitely a star on the rise.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Bold, inventive adaptation of Danish/Swedish series 'Bron' is a thrilling, gripping success, 26. Juni 2014
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Bridge - Season 1 [4 DVDs] (DVD)
It's based on 'Bron,' the Danish/Swedish original in which a body is discovered on the inter-country border on the bridge connecting those two countries, thus forcing cooperation between their investigative forces. This US version has been transported in a very imaginative way to the US/Mexico border by a crack team of writers. A similar adaptation took place in the UK. In that series, the body is found in the Channel and ropes in France.

The initiating crime in "The Bridge" is a show-stopper. A body is discovered halfway between Mexico and the United States on the busy crossing point. Upon closer inspection, though, the corpse is revealed to be two halves of different bodies. One victim is a prominent American, the other is a murdered Mexican. Uniting both countries, the task force leading the investigation is headed by Juarez cop Marco Ruiz (Demian Bechir) and American detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger). Each has a complicated back story. Ruiz seems to be a good guy struggling in a corrupt system, Kruger suffers from Asberger's Syndrome and is haunted by a violent past.

I love the work of Demian Bichir. He's outstanding here. Diane Kruger is equally sublime. Her character, Sonya, exhibits Aspergers-like thinking and actions. In the wrong hands, acting this out could look rather foolish or ham-handed on camera. Ms. Kruger pulls it off beautifully. You feel for the way she can't feel. Her work is artfully juxtaposed by Bechir's Marco, whose knack with people is established early, and by Ted Levine's Hank Wade, Sonya's boss, whose soft spot for her goes way back. Turns out he's the one who's basically got her through life thus far.

The real revelation here is Matthew Dillard as reporter, Daniel Frye. If you just know him as Shaggy, prepare to be duly impressed. I especially loved the chemistry between his character and the cub reporter played by Emily Rios.

The success of the show has fueled a second season. Season one's end sets that up perfectly as a distraught Marco begins to seek out revenge for the tragedy that has befallen upon his family.

I have watched the European (Swedish?) version of this show (available with English subtitles), which was the basis for the US series and enjoyed the European version more.

How good is it to see the first season of 'Eight Is Enough' again? The few episodes featuring Diana Hyland as Joan Bradford, are definitely the best. Betty Buckley was simply not in the same class, and Tom Bradford on his own, just didn't seem right. Grant Goodeve was dependable as David, but somehow I can't help wondering what the series would have been like if Mark Hamill had stayed on for the whole first season. The more I watch the pilot episode, the more I like him as David. And Kimberley Beck would definitely have been a great Nancy! Oh well, what might have been!

Product Description-

Before the extended families that came to dominate prime time, from Full House to Parenthood, ABC launched Eight Is Enough, an adaptation of Crossfire host Thomas W. Braden's memoir. The pilot sets the tone: parenting is serious stuff, but a little humor never hurts (consequently, a redundant laugh track occasionally comes into play). Tom Bradford (Dick Van Patten, who sports TV's cutest comb-over), a Sacramento columnist, and his wife, Joan (Diana Hyland), are imperfect, but involved parents. As the series begins, oldest son David (Mark Hamill, Star Wars), a construction worker, leaves the nest, but there would be a few cast changes by the second episode. Notably, Grant Goodeve would replace Hamill, while Willie Aames took over as Tommy. With women's lib in full effect, the Bradford women spend much of these nine episodes trying to find their way in a changing world: Joan takes up photography, Susan (Susan Richardson) goes on a ski trip with a male coed, and Mary (Lani O'Grady) opposes her father during a newspaper strike. Other episodes revolve around Tommy's crush on an indecisive classmate (Charlene Tilton) and David's affair with an older woman (Adrienne Barbeau). That leaves Joanie (Laurie Walters), the drama student, Nancy (Dianne Kay), the cheerleader, Elizabeth (Connie Newton), the typical teenager, and Nicholas (Adam Rich), the elfin pipsqueak. Once you get past the flared jeans and wide lapels, Eight Is Enough holds up surprisingly well, since the primary concerns are timeless. If the acting can be uneven, the chemistry between cast members papers over the cracks. Sadly, Hyland only filmed four episodes due to illness (she passed away in 1977). In the second season, Betty Buckley stepped in as the newest member of the Bradford clan.

For fans of 70's dramas such as Family and The Waltons, here is the first season of the top-rated dramedy Eight is Enough on DVD! Based on the book by Thomas Braden, the series chronicled the lives of a columnist Tom Bradford, his wife and their eight children, and their sometimes-comic, sometimes-dramatic exploits.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Not the carefree Frankie and Annette, 26. Mai 2014
"Fireball 500/ Thunder Alley." These two movies represent the final two features that Annette Funicello made for the legendary American International Pictures. But instead of ending her career kicking around the sand, she found herself covered in dust from NASCAR tracks.

"Fireball 500" can be considered the last of the Beach Party films since it was directed by William Asher and features Frankie Avalon, Annette and Harvey Lembeck except they aren't close to their normal surf and sand creations. Lembeck is no longer nutty biker Erik Von Zipper. He's a Southern bootlegger who also deals in racing. Frankie plays a racecar driver working his way down to Daytona. These are the early days of NASCAR before sponsors made life so much easier for the drivers. So instead of getting cash from Budweiser like Dale Jr., Frankie scores extra bucks by hauling moonshine for Lembeck.

There is a different tone between these films and it's not merely going from sand to asphalt. You can feel the dividing line between "Fireball 500" and "How to Stuff A Wild Bikini" during a fight between Frankie and Harvey. Instead of the slapstick mayhem of those early films, "Fireball 500" shows these two men are out to hurt each other. They're not aiming at the funnybone. No longer is Lembeck frozen by a touch of the finger. Now there is blood on their lips. Annette doesn't have too much of a role. This racing movie is not her vehicle.

The same can be said about "Thunder Alley." Fabian (Frankie's racing rival in Fireball 500) plays a racer who has a pesky blackout problem as he circles the hardtop. So he tries to make a comeback by being part of a stunt show that features Annette. There's even a wild party that gets out of control - especially compared with those soda drinking kids on Bikini Beach. Richard Rush directed this final AIP - Annette feature. He's the same guy who a decade later would give us "The Stunt Man" - one of the cinematic greats about the madness of a movie on location.
