Borland C++ Builder 3 in 21 days (Sams Teach Yourself...)
Borland C++ Builder 3 in 21 days (Sams Teach Yourself...)
von Kent Reisdorph
  Taschenbuch

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good introduction for BCB 3, 6. Juli 2000
This book was a very good introduction to the C++ Builder environment. It clearly explained the basic features of C++ Builder, and also had some information on the program's history. Not only was the information in this book helpful for learning C++ Builder 3, but most of the information I learned was also applicable to other Borland programming environments such as Delphi. The only part I didn't like about the book was that the first part was too much devoted to basic C++ programming, which I was already familiar with.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is unfamiliar with Borland tools, or who has never used Delphi or C++ Builder. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone who is familiar with Delphi or VCL (the Visual Component Library). This book seems to be designed primarily for people who have never used the Delphi/C++ Builder environment.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good, but not perfect, 5. Juli 2000
If you have a small website and you are interested in adding some special effects or interactivity with Javascript, you may find this book very interesting. I have 2 small websites, and I found this book adequate for the small things I wanted to accomplish.
However, if you are interested in getting heavy into Javascript and creating your own code, I would not recommend this book. It has a very poor reference section in the appendix, and does not explain things in a way that would teach you to be a real Javascript programmer. The book is only good enough to give you some code you can copy, and have a general idea of how it works.
I noticed that this is somewhat typical of the Visual Quickstart series of books. They provide you with enough information to do certain tasks, but they do not get deep enough where you can have a lot of flexibility and creativity on your own.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good book, but could be a little better..., 17. Januar 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: C++ for Dummies (3rd ed) (Taschenbuch)
I found this book very helpful as an introduction to C++ from C. It talks about why C++ is better than C and stresses on object-orientation. While some of the examples get annoying after a while because of their repetition, most of the explanations are clear.
This book is good if you're moving from C to C++, but is not for beginning programmers. Although the first few chapters are a review of C, it doesn't go deep enough to master the C programming language.
