It's a Meaningful Life: It Just Takes Practice
von Bo Lozoff
  Gebundene Ausgabe

4.0 von 5 Sternen A meaningful book, 31. Juli 2000
Bo Lozoff, like Jack Kornfield, has given us a wise book on finding the meaningful life. By combining the inner journey to God and the outer path to community, we can make ourselves a genuine person. His practices are simple, and that is their beauty.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Guess I'm not a Bobo, 28. Juli 2000
David Brooks' funny and passionate examination of the rise of Bourgeois Bohemians takes us through the last 50 years and makes sense of modern society. By looking at Bobo education, consumerism, business, intellect, pleasure, religion, and politics, Brooks shows that America has moved from the extremes toward the center. His description of community life in the Bobo townships and the paths and pressures of success are a perfect counterpoint to Globalization and the McWorld. I found the book refreshing, smart and funny, and insightful. I don't know how I will be able to walk through Berkeley and not chuckle under my breath as I pass the confused faces of Bobos trying to decide between Peet's and Starbucks'.

Great Web Architecture (... Secrets (IDG))
Great Web Architecture (... Secrets (IDG))
von Clay Andres
  Taschenbuch

3.0 von 5 Sternen Good Discussion of Design Architecture, not Technology, 22. Juli 2000
Clay Andres gives a good presentation of designing professional web sites, but does not delve into specific technologies. The book is very design-centric (and MAC-centric) in showing effective design architectures. Many of the other reviewers here were looking for a discourse on technology architecture and this was a waste of time for them. If you are lokking for basics, this is a good book, if you want cutting edge technologies, look elsewhere.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Visio 2000 for Dummies (Taschenbuch)
Debbie Walkowski walks the reader through all of the features of Visio 2000. Simple in its approach, the book gets you up and running with the program quickly. I just wish I had this tool back when I was doing drafting in high school.

Eternal Echoes: Exploring Our Yearning to Belong
Eternal Echoes: Exploring Our Yearning to Belong
von John O'Donohue
  Gebundene Ausgabe

4.0 von 5 Sternen A graceful look at our human soul, 11. Juli 2000
John O'Donohue looks deep into the human soul and explains our yearning to belong. He explores our physical being ("the threshold of belonging"), the presence of longing ("the flame of longing"), the negative aspects of imprisonment ("prisons we choose to live in") and suffering ("broken belonging"), the way we can come to a fuller life through prayer ("a bridge between longing and belonging"), and sums it up by explaining our absence from God ("where longing still lingers"). The eternal indeed echoes from these pages with an ageless wisdom.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A great gift of a very wise man, 27. Juni 2000
Jack Kornfield again brings inspiration and gentle awareness to those on a spiritual path. For me this was the right book at the right time and helped me out of a confusing depressive episode. Those of us who are younger or on a slower path to awakening can find insight and truth from those who have gone before us. The stories and reminders here are heart-felt and a great gift to us all. Take this book to heart, because, as Jack Kornfield says, "To use our life to move toward compassion and away from suffering is the only thing that matters.... Whenever we awaken,.... We realize we belong on this earth. Whoever we are is the right person; wherever we are is the right place to awaken...."

Insanely Great
Insanely Great
von Steven Levy
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 21,50

5.0 von 5 Sternen Still A Classic, 11. Juni 2000
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Insanely Great (Taschenbuch)
Steven Levy's Insanely Great is still the fun story of how Apple's Macintosh redefined how the average person wants to use a computer (no command line). While Linux is still the buzzword among techies, the Mac is still doing what it was intended to do. This edition contains a new afterword, so if you have the original, this may not be worth your money. But if you are new to the story, enjoy. Until Eazel makes Linux more Mac-like, and MacOS X makes business apps more Mac-friendly, I'll play on Macs and wait to see what happens NEXT.
