5.0 von 5 Sternen what a ride, 31. Juli 2014

While the first book was partly a (boring) high school novel with pompous speech, this second volume makes you voraciously read and read, gasping for breath. Very interesting plot with two so different technologies ( though a bit too much on the good vs evil -side).
So: Make your way through The Second Ship and then be rewarded with this bummer. Now on to the final volume!

4.0 von 5 Sternen fast-paced thriller with lots of twists, 16. Juli 2014

Definitely much better than the first book, which I found in parts boring and implausible. This sequel hardly leaves you time to breathe, so if you can overlook the patriotism, the delusion of American superiority, the hero-worship, here is a page-turner for you. I couldn't read it in one go, I needed a break from time to time from reading that the USA are the best and have the best of everything.
What I generally miss in US books is a broader view. If a worldwide phenomenon is happening, why narrow the POV completely to the united states and act as if no other parts of the world existed?

1.0 von 5 Sternen only for very soppy children under twelve, 4. Juli 2014

No story, no grammar, no plot, no logic, only youngsters drooling over each other. Humour? Certainly not. Unbearable. I'd give zero stars if this was possible

3.0 von 5 Sternen mixed read, 26. Juni 2014

You need to read the line first, otherwise this book will make no sense.
Like The line, The source starts slow. It takes a few chapters till the author finds his pace and the narrative runs smoothly. The middle part is good, the end is too drawn out IMHO. But middle books are always difficult...no beginning, no end.
More family secrets are revelled, not all of them unexpected. The golem from part one is still with us, and now fae lore is mixed in too. So, all in all a fun read. I'll definitely read part three.

...like I wasted mine. This book never gets better, it only gets worse. Thought-experiments and philisophical ideas of the last 1, 5 centuries are put in a blender and the resulting unappetising mash is too thin to cover the gaping holes in this not-story. At first I thought this might make for an educating read but it's just a figment of a lurid imagination.
So there is no reality. Maybe it's better this way

It's gothic, it's paranormal, it's vivid, it's superb, it has ghosts and murderers and chocolate gorillas and vampires...two very headstrong sisters dabble in the dark arts in Victorian London and find themselves in more than they bargained for.
Utterly captivating from first to last page.

3.0 von 5 Sternen more catastrophe than sci-fi, 5. Mai 2014
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
What an interesting plot, using tachyons and multiple universes...everyone is thrown back 25 years to precisely where and what they were doing in their original timeline, the deceased are alive again, adults are rejuvenated or in a child's body...Still the first third of the book is basically a catastrophe novel, Mr Jones again revealing that he really loves to have his heroes bicycle through an apocalyptic world.
Otherwise I found it in parts boring and very predictable. Not a bad book, but Extinction Point is much better..

Everyone loves this book, it seems. I don't, sorry. It's got nothing new to say about cancer, and especially cancer in youth. I find it presumptuous and intentionally tear-jerky. I don't have the impression Mr Green has ever witnessed a person dying miserably of cancer

4.0 von 5 Sternen the great finale, 28. April 2014
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
I don't understand why there are so many disappointed reviews, I found the ending of Wool or Divergent far more predictable and downright dumb. So, despite the army playing a huge part - had to be, given the elimination of everyone else, I really liked this book, although it had its lengths. But it was way better than part II IMÖ. I even learned something: Even after the end of the world Americans can't be bothered with breastfeeding their children

4.0 von 5 Sternen a mixed read, 22. April 2014

A mostly entertaining fast-paced book which is thankfully not as gory as the summary makes you think. So far, so good, but the not vital characters remain flat and tend to turn up at random times and at random places. The solution is meh at best and there are large logical holes and very weird misconceptions....the people of Slovakia speak German????? And even the ( present-time) elderly ones speak acceptable English???? Another American writer failing to realize that there are indeed many different countries with their own languages in Europe?
Still if you are willing to overlook this it is a good read.
