3.0 von 5 Sternen A bit disappointing read, 27. Mai 2011

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Rogue (Traitor Spy) (Gebundene Ausgabe)
Unlike Canavan's great Black Magicians thrilogy and the fantastic world she had created there, The Rogue will be a disappointing read. It was for me. You will be forever expecting that plot-driving event, that unforeseen twist, the emotional event that will drive the story. Right up until the epilogue. This book doesn't go anywhere, it is filled with uninteresting characters, needless "romance" or something coming close to a "romance"..., worrying, complaining, and dilemmas that get resolved before they could really go somewhere and put the real plot in motion. Characters that are simply sketched up and are not developing further.
The homosexuality seems to be the focal point of the book. The new character we are introduced to in this book, Lilia, was pretty quick to find her homosexual nature, but the quantum leap in her personality development, from being pretty naive (almost stupid) to being a sensible and rational person is just too much to accept. The relationships are stale, predictable, boring, flat, and at this point I'm eagerly awaiting Regin's announcement in book 3 of his newfound homosexuality or that of his wife and why not him ending in Sonea's arms... In case she stops meddling about the past and his behaviour in their apprentice years though having proved his trustworthiness over and over again during the past 20 years (which covers the most part of their lives)...

Lorkin seems to be the main focus of this trilogy (if it can be considered as such), and the sum total of his involvement in this book can be boiled down to him making a choice that every reader expects, and the two scenes that directly relate to it. Don't expect any action. At all. Not the desperately emotional struggles against Regin from the first trilogy in this universe, nor the plight of Sonea and Akkarin against the Ichani.

Although it is a disappointing read, I am pretty interested in the outcome in the third book. Will surely buy it, but am definately not agog with anticipation for its release...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Vampire love stories, 16. Juli 2010
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
If you like vampire love stories, then this is a book you must read. I enjoyed every minute of it. Don't expect anything big or complicated and entangled. It is a book written in a pretty simple language, kind of everyday scenes but with the most unbelievably perfect men involved. One can easily say that the men characters were made up and described by a woman. They have perfect bodies, tender souls and are a deep well of feelings and emotions. At first hard to show their feelings, but then getting swept away by love and emotions. And the time they take to fall in love and commit themselves to The Woman.... My god, that's something every woman dreams about. At one point one starts craving to meet a man like that and I bet no woman would mind being involved with a vampire. The story though keeps building and that's what keeps it away from being boring after the second book of the series.
I would read it again just to lift my spirits and keep smiling all the time. Refreshing, erotic, interesting.

5.0 von 5 Sternen I was swept away, 16. Juli 2010
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
In the second part of the thriligy one gets acquainted with some of the characters that were only scetched out in the first book. Still the time about Arlen's transformation is still missing (at least I miss it and am still curious what happened to him during those 5 years before he showed up as the Painted Man).
I like the language used in the book, the descriptions and the vivid image of all characters and scenes described. The plot paints scenes and images in one's mind and enables you to live in the book, at those times and experience all fortunes and misfortunes of the characters.
I am looking forward to the third book.
