5.0 von 5 Sternen A funny and clever battle of wills!, 21. Oktober 2006

Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Last Hellion (Taschenbuch)
This book was a pure joy to read! The overall feeling of it reminded me of movies like “Shakespeare in Love”, “Hook” or “Casanova”, not plot- or character-wise – obviously – but from the overall feeling of playfulness that makes these movies such a joy to watch again and again. There’s passion, there’s fun and there are deep emotions but somehow you can’t stop smiling throughout it all.

In “The Last Hellion” Ms Chase manages to show the different view points of her characters through intelligent and clever dialogue instead of having them throw stupid insults at each other like in so many other romances. It was so refreshing to finally have two adversaries who act like grown-ups instead of spoiled children. I absoluted adored the scene where Vere and Lydia tried to get the better of each other by quoting Shakespeare. Their word fight was truly inspired, heated but never malicious, playful and yet earnest, and so funny that I couldn’t stop grinning. I could positively feel the sparks fly between these two!

If you like vivid, passionate stories with clever dialogue and dry humor you can’t go wrong with this book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Awesome - One of my favorite books ever!, 25. Juli 2006
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Behind Closed Doors (Taschenbuch)
I just read this book again after two or three years and I have to say it is still one of my all-time favorite books! Ms McKenna manages to write a tight plot with three-dimensional characters - even the villains aren't all black and white - that really come alive on the pages. Her love scenes are super hot but never cheap. In fact they further the relationship between hero and heroine and give the reader insights into the characters heads.

Seth is a to-die-for hero. Strong, ruthless, sexy, and outspoken. Raine is the perfect match for him. I like how she grows stronger throughout the book without getting cynical.

Usually when I re-read a book I skip over the uninteresting parts only wanting to re-visit the great moments in the story. With this book, though, I wasn't able to skip anything; it is that well-written and gripping! The story just pulls you in and before you know it you've read half the book and are wondering where the time has gone. All of Ms McKenna's books are great, but this one will always be my favorite for that special magic it emanates.

I recommend this to everyone who loves their romances hot but doesn't like the extremes of the often mind- and plot-less eroticas. This is the book for you!

Ms. Ortolon really hit the mark with this truly perfect series! I liked her Galveston books but I absolutely LOVED the Perfect series!! This last book contains everything that made the other two great - and then some! Fluid writing, natural dialogue, wonderful characters and a great setting. The emotional depth is balanced perfectly by some really funny moments. The scene where Amy sends Byron the love scene she had written was hilarious! I'm anxiously waiting for Ms. Ortolon's next books. I fervently hope she can keep up the high standard she has set with this series. These books will stay on my keeper shelf forever!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Perfectly written!, 21. Juli 2006
The second book in this series definitely lives up to its title. It is just the perfect blend of fun and emotion. The characters are wonderful! I really felt for Christine, who tried so hard to win her fathers love and respect. Alec was the perfect man for her, funny, caring, and adamant to make their relationship work. I really adored him for fallling in love with Christine before she did and for all the things he was willing to give up to be with her. Ms. Ortolon gets better and better! A great read! Buy it!!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Wonderfully entertaining and funny romance!, 12. Juni 2006
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Knock Me Off My Feet (Taschenbuch)
Susan Donovan's debut novel is the perfect weekend lecture. Funny, romantic, sexy and very entertaining. It starts like a light and breezy read but soon develops more depth and feeling. The fluid style in which it is written makes it easy to read and very hard to put down. There were some quite hot love scenes in it and also lots of funny moments. I really loved Quinn's family and that he fell in love with Audie before she did. I highly recommend starting this book on the weekend or else you won't get much work done!

2.0 von 5 Sternen Not a Romance!!, 8. Juni 2006
What annoyed me most about this book was that it is marketed as a romance - which it is not. Sure, there is sex in the book but it is rather fast and totally uninspired and doesn't convey any feelings. In fact there is no chemistry between the main leads AT ALL! I would rather see it as a thriller with supernatural and religious elements. The overall feel of the book is that of cool detachment. I could never bring myself to care about the characters. They seemed flat, either overly dominant or just plain stupid. The dialogue wasn't memorable either. Though the plot is fairly interesting the author never managed to breathe life into the story. The huge amount of violent and gross scenes was pretty repulsive, too.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Nett - aber mehr auch nicht, 8. Juni 2006
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Meanwhile,Back at the Ranch (Audio CD)

This book had me glued to the pages from beginning to end. Linnea Sinclair does a superb job of mixing romance and science fiction. Different from other authors who either write plot-driven s/f or romance that accidentally takes place in space, this one is the perfect combination. It has a fine cast of well-developed characters, an intriguing storyline, enough technical detail to sound genuine but never so much that it gets boring, a strong supernatural theme, and a wonderfully emotional and moving love story. I absolutely loved everything about it!! I have also read "Accidental Goddess" which everybody thinks is the better book (and it is a great book, no doubt) but I liked this one better because it was more emotionally gripping. Besides I just loved the male lead (I can never resist a tortured hero :-) ). The chemistry between hero and heroine was great, too, their dialogue often amusing. Please Ms. Sinclair write another book like this one!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Emotional and hot - a great read, 2. Juni 2006
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
In her second Blaze novel Sarah Mayberry has worked out some minor flaws her first book was suffering from. Her story now flows much smoother. And everything I liked about her first book is still there: likeable characters, great love scenes, and real emotions. I’m sick and tired of all the Blaze books that revolve solely around sex. Sure, readers expect a Blaze to be hot. But why can’t I have red hot love scenes AND emotional depth? Well, obviously I can because Sarah Mayberry delivers just that!

Anna Jackson has changed her life since she overcame her breast cancer. She quit her job with a law firm and opened up her own business, offering limousine service for big companies. She made a list in the hospital of all the things she wanted to change in her life if she survived. But some things on that list are still untouched like “being more adventurous” and “having more passion in her life”. When she meets Marc Lewis, the owner of a computer company with dark chocolate-eyes and a sexy bedroom voice, who booked her limo service, she feels an instant attraction to him that he seems to return. But having a one-night-stand or even a fling, no strings attached, is nothing Anna has ever felt comfortable with. Her long missing passion seems to catch up with her with a vengeance, though, and before she knows it she’s having some pretty wild (and adventurous) encounters with a man she knows almost nothing about. When they start an affair she has a hard time remembering the rules: don’t stay overnight, ask no personal questions, and never, ever fall in love.

I absolutely adored Anna’s gay, younger brother who plays an important (and hilarious!) part. He’s a cutie! His quips had me grinning throughout the book.

This one is without a doubt one of the better Blaze stories and well worth its money. I will definitely keep my eyes open for Ms. Mayberry’s next book!

5.0 von 5 Sternen I'm addicted!!!, 8. März 2006
Von Amazon bestätigter Kauf(Was ist das?)
The second book in J.R. Ward’s “Brotherhood”-vampire series proves to be excellent!!! I loved it from beginning to end! Fast-paced and action-packed this story didn’t have a boring moment in it. With great dialogue and many memorable scenes it carried the story forward at breakneck speed leaving me breathless and panting for more. Tough on the outside but tender-hearted on the inside these vampire warriors give paranormal romance lovers all they could wish for – and then some! These vivid, compelling characters jump from the pages full-grown and make this vampire world utterly believable. I couldn’t read fast enough but was crushed when it ended. I would have loved to read on forever!

The story:
About a hundred years ago Rhage was cursed by the Scribe Virgin to hold a beast inside his body that comes out when he gets really angry. As a huge dragon-like creature he destroys everything in his path, friend or foe. That’s why Rhage is in constant fear of hurting one of his brothers. The beast can only be held at bay by constant stress release through fighting or sex. Nicknamed “Hollywood” by the brother’s because of his good looks he usually has no problem finding a willing female. But over the decades he’s gotten bored with and also disgusted by the mindless, anonymous acts. Then he meets Mary and is immediately drawn to her, first of all to her voice that soothes him (and his beast) like nothing else ever has.
Mary has first lost her mother to cancer and then gotten leukaemia herself. She has been healthy for two years but now it seems the disease is back. When she meets Rhage she can’t understand why he’s interested in her because she is no beauty and he is screen-actor-gorgeous. But Rhage is determined to have her, drawn to her strong will, sweet compassion and the brave way she handles her illness. When they get attacked by some Lessers Rhage’s identity as a vampire is revealed to Mary. He takes her to the compound of the Brotherhood to keep her save from the soulless vampire hunters. But can he keep her save from the danger that is within him? Because every time he wants to get intimate with Mary the beast wants to come out and being celibate is only making things worse. On top of that Mary won’t let him get emotionally close because she knows how it is to see someone you love suffer and not being able to help.

There’s a second storyline about a young man, an orphan and a friend of Mary’s, who doesn’t know that he is shortly going through the transition to become a vampire. The mystery of his past is not completely resolved in this book but everyone who’s read the first book can probably take a guess. I’m looking forward to seeing more of him in the next book and hopefully have my speculation confirmed.

Also Zhadist’s story, which will be told in the next book, is actually already starting in this one when he meets the first woman in ages who is not disgusted by him or sees him as a freak. On the contrary she feels quite mesmerized and very attracted to him. Their scenes are emotionally powerful and super hot! I can’t wait to get my hands on their book!

Ms. Ward you have me hooked! With this series you have propelled yourself to the top of my must-buy-list. I’ll range you right up there with my most favorite authors. You rock!!!
