The New 35MM Photographer's Handbook: Everything You Need to Get the Most Out of Your Camera
The New 35MM Photographer's Handbook: Everything You Need to Get the Most Out of Your Camera
von Julian Calder
  Taschenbuch

3.0 von 5 Sternen General Photography book, not much else, 28. Januar 2000
I think the book's title is a bit misleading in that the handbook really doesn't tell you how to get the most out of your camera. I bought the book hoping to learn something new, but the focus is more about general concepts, such as how to buy a camera, basic shooting techniques, etc. I read the book in a day because I already knew what was in the book -- I gave this three stars because it's a good book for a beginner, but not for intermediate and above users.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Primer on typography & design, 27. Januar 2000
This is an excellent way to learn and understand basic design and typography principles. It is written for the newbie and all the concepts are presented in a clear, consise format. After reading the book, one should have a better understanding of design fundamentals and apply them to print and web projects. This book will also show you how to spot good design from bad -- all Robin Williams says are tried and true design concepts that have been around for ages -- in this day and age of ostentatious design, it's refreshing to go back to the old school.

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Pocket Reference (Taschenbuch)
The Pocket Ref is right up there with the dictionary and thesaurus. The nice thing about it is that you can tote this little book everywhere (which I do). It is very handy and contains everything from airport codes, measurement conversions, area codes, the periodic table, etc. All of us have one at work and we give these away for clients, associates, and friends. This book has everything you've always needed to find, just didn't know where.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Practical and handy, 26. Januar 2000
One of a series of L.L. Bean handbooks, it provides a good introduction to outdoor photography. This is by no means for the experienced photographer as topics covered are more of a general nature and helpful to novices. Covering equipment to shooting techniques, this book is perfect for someone interested in photography. While the emphasis is on outdoor photography (obviously), the lessons are easily transferable to general practice. This book is easy to carry in your backpack, beside your camera. For more advanced and thorough techniques, I highly recommend any of the Ansel Adams series of "how to" books.

Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity
Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity
von Jakob Nielsen
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 33,95

4.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent in its simplicity, 26. Januar 2000
This book should be on the desk of all web designers, amateur and professional. Jakob Nielsen is to the point and brief as he discusses (or critiques) websites and his thoughts on what makes a website pleasing yet functional. I gave this book 4 stars because much of the info in the book is available on his website. He doesn't write about anything new or something you couldn't look up at his site. The advantage of the book is that you're free to mark it up with your sticky notes and pen -- so you can implement what you learned into your site. While all may not agree with Nielsen's opinions about website design , he does have very valid points and the web would do well to heed some of his advice.

Web Pages that Suck, w. CD-ROM: Learn Good Design by Looking at Bad Design

4.0 von 5 Sternen A good romp, 22. Januar 2000
What better way to learn & appreciate good site design than by looking at what is faulty/sucks? The writers are opinionated as hell, but that's part of the fun in reading this book. It's slick, comes with a CD-Rom and offers useful stuff for your own site. But if you're looking for something less "humorous", the better choice would be Desiging Web Usability, by Jakob Nielson.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Great for beginners, 16. Januar 2000
This is the perfect book for someone just starting out on Project 98 and would like to read in a step by step lesson format. One will learn the fundamentals, but this is not the place to look for troubleshooting or more advanced techniques. For that, I highly suggest Project 98 Bible by Nancy Stevenson.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good reference book for SmartSuite, 16. Januar 2000
This is a great place to start if you didn't get much out of the reference manual or don't have it. The book is easy to read and understand, but it's a bit dry. The author begins with the very basics, such as how to open/save a file and then closes it with chapters on Lotus ScreenCam and using Lotus for html. It's thorough and I think anyone will be a Lotus expert after reading it.
