Even though it is a historical fiction, this is a very good book to read. True that some of the points he wrote about were true. But we should know that this is open to interpretation. What is also important is that as readers, we should be able to discern where historical truths end and where fiction begins. I have read a great deal of historical fictions, and know how misleading historical fictions can be. Nothing that is written in this novel is exact. The father of this theme that Dan Brown took in this book is Michael Baigent , the author of HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL. He said it succinctly that he did not believe about the grail story because he did not know. What he wrote was what people said, many of whom were hazy about it. So, he wrote using "it is said that". That is what makes writings glaringly historical fictions.Another good historical fiction is DISCIPLES OF FORTUNE. HOLY BLOOD HOLY GRAIL, UNION moujik are other good recommendations.

I have made it a point of reading inspirational books which can help me have a positive outlook to life. Though it reads like a non-fictional memoir, "The Secret Life of Bees" even though it is fictitious, has been tremendously helpful to me as an inspirational book. It is brilliantly written with amazing details and beautiful settings. It showed the unique creativity of the author. This hard to put down book, is sure to capture your heart with its imagery.
Sue Monk Kidd does a brilliant job of laying out a storyline that is not only believable, but is interesting as well. I could not put this book down. Lily Owens will capture your heart. Despite the abuse from the hands of her father T. Ray, she turned out to be a survivor. Sharing her destiny with the beekeeping sisters, and their Black Madonna honey, she finally attains some emotional security in her life. May, one of the sisters is someone who inspires. This is a novel for young adults and adults, because at 14, Lily fights with the hazy memory of her dead mother whom she misses and longs for in rural South Carolina of 1964, where racial violence is inescapable. She finds solace in her surrogate mother - the family's black servant, Rosaleen, who later becomes a victim of racial hatred. It moved on to the escape of Lily and Rosaleen, the search for the identity of Lily's mother's identity and the quest for a sense of belonging in her life This journey led Lily and Rosaleen into the lives of three strange but alluring beekeepers who set Lily who helped Lily to grow up and be at peace with her family and its history.
The story is told through Lily's eyes, mouth, mind and heart, and as such it is deep, hilarious and inspiring. When we read about the beehive and honey-making, we get the sense that Lily has a deep desire for nurturance, owing to the absence of a mother in her life. The Secret Life of Bees will certainly strike a chord with any family.I recommend : THE USURPER A AND OTHER STORIES, NIGHTMARES ECHO, THE JOY OF MOTHERHOOD, DISCIPLES OF

A Tourist in Yucatan is an amazing story. As a big fan of mystery stories, I was happy that I read this story. It is one of the best that I have ever read. The good story line and fast pace of the book combined with the author's great mastery in developing the main character's personality to make this story the great read that it is. The character developments for the other characters are equally great. I was also intrigued by the plot and kept wondering what the next page would hold. The setting is perfect and takes the reader into the archeological findings and Mayan ruins of the Yucatan. For lovers of adventure-thrillers and those with a thirst for the ancient world in the Americas this book should be a go for you. Also recommended: DISCIPLES OF FORTUNE, THE LAST PLACE GOD MADE, THE USURPER AND OTHERS, THE UNION MOUJIK

Rezension bezieht sich auf: Ice Station (Taschenbuch)
A great read is what I consider Ice Station. Yes, it is one of those books you need to read as a source of escape when you are in the train, plane or any other time consuming movement. Not a story with a great deal of intellectual strength. An action packed thriller that involves lots of explosions, guns, fighting etc. Fast-paced and adrenaline stirring, this gun-blazing, heroic action book is capable of holding any lover of thrillers from beginning to end.
The plot begins with a team of US Marines led by the Shane Schofeild who answers a distress call at a remote Antarctic research station based on the worries of some scientists who found a possibly alien object deep beneath the ice, a discovery that caused the lives of two of their divers .Even before Schofeild and friends start an investigation, they suddenly themselves at risk from everybody. It isn't only the USA that is interested in the discovery. Several other countries are interested in having a stake in the ship, at all cost. That involves killing, and destroying for it. That is where the adrenaline starts flowing in the gun battles that ensued, the hilarious characters, actions and conspiracies.
Reilly captured it all. To show that he's the master of the plot twist, Reilly throws includes a series of gripping narratives and hair spinning encounters that includes a fighter jet that turns invisible, a far-reaching government conspiracy, a hovercraft chase, and a scientist framed for murder. The plot carries no serious moral statement. If you like unusual military thrillers, this is your pick.

I consider this book to be a very rich philosophical yet hilarious work, challenging in content, and gripping as a smooth read. Tou will agree with me that this book stands out as a tantalizing novel. You never guess what you will find until you start reading it. One thing for sure is that you will laugh, smile and ponder in turns. In the end, you will be more of a truthful guy than a the other type.Another wryly humorous and philosophically insightful novel is THE USURPER AND OTHER STORIES

5.0 von 5 Sternen A rich story, 27. Februar 2005
"The Great Gatsby" is one of the most exquisite books I have ever read to date that deals with most if not all aspects of love and the challenges of life. There is so much to learn especially for us in this modern world where so many people use the word "love" without really knowing what it truly means. The author is so descriptive that I sometimes felt as if I was in the story. He made it easy for readers to penetrate the souls of the characters and relate to their lives.
The character development is prodigious, while prose is outstanding. I felt as much for Gatsby as I have for any other character. He had always had high aspirations, but his dreams were taken away from him by the fact the he had to fight a war, and he could never be the same again. Gatsby's ambition is to have his former love, who is now married to an unfaithful husband, a quest that saw outstanding twist and turns in the story to make it the great read we have heard so much about. This book is truly inspirational for everyone irrespective of race, gender, age or occupation. I highly recommend it along with:

I have taken a particular interest in reading books where the chief characters suffered abuses and overcame their traumas to become better persons in life. I am glad I did because there is so much to learn and be inspired by such books. THE USURPER AND OTHERS, WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS are amongst the titles I cherished.

It has been quite a while that I have read a story which so captivated me. It is quite a revealing book that will make many readers cringe. I like the character development, the fast pace at which the story flows, the setting and the sophisticated but clear plot.
I like the way the author did the narration. The voice is strong and clear. Poetic and fast flowing, one gets the story easily and has no difficulty relating to the story. I recommend this book to all.
