Chasing Cezanne: A Novel
Chasing Cezanne: A Novel
von Peter Mayle
  Taschenbuch
Preis: EUR 14,98

3.0 von 5 Sternen Fun n' fluffy read from the purveyor of all things francais!, 19. Juli 2000

I can't get enough of Peter Mayle, & that includes this breezy, pond-hopping mystery with a twist of urbane humor. I would have preferred another narrator/reader. I like Ken Howard (something of a dish, wouldn't you say?) but he leaves something to be desired in his rather wooden presentation of "CEZANNE." Nice to have a non-white love interest in a story like this though...refreshing!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Can't get enough of Monsieur Mayle's Provence!, 19. Juli 2000
Another gem by this talented humorist. I especially enjoyed his account of going to see Pavarotti in Orange! Now I know why he always carries that HUGE hankerchief...Add this to your collection of repeat-reading as you yearn for the Cote d'Azur (in spite of the horrendous traffic)!

4.0 von 5 Sternen C'est normal to have this gem of a book on your shelf!, 19. Juli 2000
I think Peter Mayle was a genius to leave his boring Madison Avenue job to become a provencal in search of the perfect marc; pastis; olive oil; boulangerie; 130-franc seven-course dinner (!); philosophical plumber; crochety (murderous?) neighbor; goat race; Parisian hipster party...I could go on! The author has a flair for developing his characters with wry panache. You will want to read this book over & over (& at least ONCE while actually in Provence)! Enjoy!

Garden Junk
Garden Junk
von Mary Randolph Carter
  Gebundene Ausgabe

5.0 von 5 Sternen Almost as addicting as actually searching out the junk!, 14. August 1998

I love to go junking (I used to go antiquing but I got real finally). I couldn't believe when I saw this book. There are pages & pages of great photos of M.R. Carter's junking forays, from upstate NY to truly southern VA. She shares with us her dizzyingly inexpensive acquisitions as well as her heartbreaking pass-ups. Some of the price tags will make you positively drool! M.R.C. tells you how to make your own Garden Tent, Gilligan's Hut (yes *that* Gilligan), & gives you permission to graciously copy plans for her beloved Garden Hutte, complete with portraits by unknown artists & genuine faux sunflowers, & build one in your own backyard! This book just makes me happy. I mean, what's not to like about a broken-down wicker chaise for $10, or a lesson in how to faux-finish your concrete garage floor with a mossy-green watercolor wash? Have fun!
