1.0 von 5 Sternen Never gets off the ground, 24. April 2016
Our main character is a brainless, shallow chick that gives women a bad name. She behaves like a teenager, although she is supposed to be 27. You get to see her fail in a variety of jobs, that have nothing to do with her skill set of having graduated from college with a chemistry major. Why doesn't she try to get a job in her field? No idea. The various job escapades are supposed to set a funny vibe, but it was just annoying.

And why does the first panel show a coastal town with the line "Somewhere in the asscrack of the Mediterranean"? The setting is never mentioned again and is completely irrelevant to the story.

The plot doesn't get much better. Well, there really isn't much of a plot, just 80odd pages of prologue, followed by 40 pages of extras. The story never gets off the ground.

As a weekly online serial this might work, as a complete volume it uttlerly failed to draw me in. Based on the cover I expected horror with some humour. Maybe a Frankenstein or vampire story. Instead it was college girl fails at life and runs around like a headless chicken.

The artwork was ok. The black on white writing in the digital version was barely readable. Some nice sketches in the extras.

I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

4.0 von 5 Sternen For Sherlock Holmes fans, 22. März 2016
I have the seen the movie several times, it is one of my favourite Sherlock Holmes movies.

This is a very close retelling of the story. The dramtic chase and the big reveal of Holmes' secret at the end are well done, as well as the artwork. An enjoyable read and a surprising take on the life of the great detective. Sherlock Holmes fans should not miss this.

I loved this book so much as a young teen, I read it over and over and over. This is probably the book that started me off on my lifelong love of fantasy, together with Watership Down.

The beginning was a little boring and the very traditional gender roles of the mice annoyed me a bit at first. But once Mrs. Frisby met the rats and they told her their story, the book picked up a lot. I had forgotten a lot of the storyline. Some parts were pretty exciting, others emotional. There was drama, angst, a good plot, suspense... A nice rollercoaster.

In the end I liked the story so much that I wouldn't mind reading a sequel, to find out how the story continues for our heroes.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Very nice hardback edition., 6. März 2016
Verifizierter Kauf(Was ist das?)
Starts with chapter 27 of the book, Shelter From the Storm, and ends with chapter 34 of the book, The Last Village.

Very close to the book. The artwork is nothing breath taking, but well done. Especially the cover gallery in the back has some very nice images.

This takes place roughly in the middle of The Eye of The World, which dragged for me. The pacing of the comic is not much different.

I am somewhere around 3.5 stars for this. I liked it, but it doesn't tempt me to get another volume right away. If I saw some WoT comics in a second hand store at a reduced price, maybe...

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great stuff for fans of dark UF, 28. Februar 2016
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Driven (Gebundene Ausgabe)
Engaging plot, well written, great level of suspense. Longish novella of 230 pages, so it gets right down to the nitty-gritty, which is a pretty dark tale of some gruesome murders.

The world building could be better. I only read the first four books of the series and it's been a while. So I know who Elena and Clay are and remember the Cabal. The rest is hazy. Armstrong does not give many explanations, so if you don't know the series, you might be a little in the dark.

Regardless, it was hard to put this down, it makes me want to re-start the Otherworld series. There is a lot of pretty meh writing in Urban Fantasy, this is anything but.

Alpha & Omega: A gay werewolf shifter romance (English Edition)
Alpha & Omega: A gay werewolf shifter romance (English Edition)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Decent werewolf romance, 27. Februar 2016
I am not a big fan of the priesthood trope, i.e. some conflicted priest, whose vows of celibacy are tested and eventually fail because of true love. But this sounded like fun and I neeed something silly to chill out.

I don't really buy the idea of werewolves, that are so far removed from human society, that they don't know the inns and outs of that society. Is that a believable setting? It's nice though, that there are female alpha wolves and that it doesn't make a bit of a difference, what gender everybody is.

Decent characters, plot and sex scenes. Aden is a little wishy-washy, after being so conflicted at first, he gave up the goods pretty easily. The story is predictable and straight forward, but entertaining enough.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Space opera, 9. Januar 2016
A collection of stories connected by the central theme of a war between humans and an alien race.

Some good sketches. Bright colours, that jump at you. Psychodelic. Vivid, with strong contrasts. I like the page layouts of the pages with less text. The font used was boring.

Good stories. And humans are not necessarily the good guys. Or the smart ones. There is a lot of crazy. More elaboration would have been nice, the stories felt unfinished. In total pretty depressing.

Quite a lot of text for a comic. Some stories are balanced evenly between sketches and text, others look more like classic comics. One story is text only with an illustrated banner at the top. Not necessarily what I would understand as a graphic novel.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Klingen zu empfindlich, 7. Januar 2016

Raptor Cop: The Battle With Willie The Worm (English Edition)
Raptor Cop: The Battle With Willie The Worm (English Edition)

2.0 von 5 Sternen The usual, 3. Januar 2016
Average guy gets doused in mysterious chemical and develops shapeshifting powers. Goes forth to battle his urges and some bad guys. Presumably saves the girl and becomes a vigilante superhero in coming installments. Been there, read that, hard to tell if it will develop into something worth reading, as it is only the first part of something larger.

Choppy storytelling. Simplistic. No decent plot development or world building.

The art is decent. It gets the story across despite the jumpy narrative. Vibrant colors.

Would I recommend this to others or buy it for a friend? Unlikely. It is too short and needs to be fleshed out more to be truly interesting.
