1.0 von 5 Sternen Boring & predictable, 16. Juni 2009
Well, this is the second book of the series, and certainly my last one. I wasn't too excited about the first one either, but thought to give it a try. Right from the start, the outcome is obvious and even how hero and heroine are coming together is absolutely predictable. Even the threat from an century-old enemy to Jean-Luc and all people he cares about is empty and the outcome predictable as well. I couldn't be bothered to read every page - halfway through the book I started to jump the pages because it was such a boring read and I didn't really care anymore about hero and heroine and what was happening to them.

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of her best, 16. Juni 2009
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Grand Sophy (Taschenbuch)
This is the second book I read from this author - and again, I was totally hooked to the book, the plo and the characters. This is romance writing at its best and thankfully, so much different from all the American-styled books that are usually available in this genre. Not only is the language the people in this book using perfect and brings you right back into the time of the plot, but also the plot is very greatly developed and pageturning.
This book is about Sophy, who grow up with her father since her mother died when she was very young. Her father has raised her to become a strong, independent and wilful person who knows what she wants and doesn't want - quite different from most of the females of this time. She has travelled a lot, experienced a lot and therefore, is no fainting maid, but determined to meddle in peoples affairs when they are on a track she thinks that might lead them to unhappiness. Sophy can't help but interfere, with best intensions, of course. When her father has to go to a trip to Brazil, he arranges for her to stay in her aunt's house for the time being. As soon as Sophy arrives, she starts to bring the whole household in disorder - but in a great way! I couldn't help myself - I was laughing out loud many times when I came upon the scenes of what Sophy did to get what she wants. This is absolutely great reading and I can only recommend this book - and the author! Well done!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Absolutely great, 16. Juni 2009
Rezension bezieht sich auf: Lady of Quality (Taschenbuch)
This is the first book I have read from Georgette Heyer - but certainly not my last one! This is romance writing at its best - starting from the language (which really brings you back into the time - unlike a lot of other books in this genre where the setting is Regency England, but the language is 21st century American) - and ending with perfect descriptions of the characters of hero(s) and heroine(s). This story is about Miss Annis Wychfield, a 29 year old lady who likes her independence a lot and has so far refused any marriage proposals simply because she never fell in love. However, on a journey to her new home in Bath, where she wants to set up her own home, away from her overprotective brother - she comes accross a carriage with a broken wheel and two you people argueing. She takes the young lady into her care an thus, meets her uncle, who is also her guardian. He greatly irritates her and they quarrel everytime they meet, but soon, Annis is wondering what her feelings for Oliver Carleton are and if her chosen life can offer her that excitement she so desperately wishes...
I couldn't help but really feel with the main characters, I suffered their anxieties, I could relate to their way of thinking and I was crying and lauging with them. I can highly recommend this book and every other one the author has written. Excellent work!

4.0 von 5 Sternen Still great read, with a few "buts"..., 9. Januar 2009
This is the long expected book three in the series and the reader is pulled immediately into a series of events, attacks and attempted murders. Cat and Bones are facing a threat to their very lives and it costs them and their friends dearly to try to uncover the person behind all of it. Especially Cat is forced to make a decision on whether or not to embrace her vampire nature or rather live her human one? The plot is fast paced and, as a true fan of Cat and Bones, this is a must read!

However, I have to say that this one is now my least favourite book of the series so far. With all the events and action following each other, hero and heroine do have barely time to take "breath" in between. And this fact comes at the cost of not having a lot of interaction going on between Cat and Bones - which was something that made especially book one of the series such an enjoyable read! I missed this a lot in this book, because I really liked the dialogs between Cat and Bones, the teasing and the fights between them, the ups and downs they had to face in their relationship and with their relations. That there is almost none if it described in this book is a pity.
But action fans will be absolutely thrilled with this one - even if it sometimes exhausting to read about the constant string of different events that are happening at almost every page. This is the reason why I give only four stars - with the hope that book four will be up to its original standard - meaning that the great characters of Cat and Bones will reappear and get the focus and attention they deserve.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great start of a new series!, 29. Dezember 2008
Rezension bezieht sich auf: The Pretender: The Liar's Club (Taschenbuch)
This is the first book of the series "Liars Club". The plot kept me hooked from start to end and the characters are great. This is not simply a typical Regency England romance story with the sole purpose to get a perfectly looking hero, who has been a rake and a rogue in his life so far, married to an inexperienced girl who turns into an experienced lover overnight. No - this story is different because it starts with a very unusual and strong heroine. Lady Agatha, who is looking for her missing brother pretends to be married because otherwise, social strictures wouldn't allow her to go anywhere without a chaperone. If she can not find him, she has to marry "repulsive Reggie" - the son of a neighbour Lord which she absolutely detests. However, she gets tangled in her lies and finds herself confronted with a visit by some ladys of the ton who invited themselves to her home to meet her husband.
The hero Simon is a master spy, called the Magician, who is also looking for Agatha's missing brother James - albeit for an entirely different reason. He has reason to believe that James - who works for him as a spy - is a traitor, because other men of the Liars Club (that's how the spies call themselves), turn up dead or seriously wounded - and James was the only one who, besides Simon, knew their cover. Simon pretends to be a chimneysweep in order to get into Agathas' house, but finds himself being pulled by her into the role of the non-existent husband. This isn't a one-time role and he agrees to play her husband and save her reputation because he thinks she can lead him to James. They become lovers during that course of forced teamwork. James shows up at a critical moment and is not happy about the situation. Simon believes, that marriage is not possible in profession because it will make him vulnerable and his wife and children will be put in danger. How Agatha and Simon work this all out - well, you have to read to book to find out. The characters are great and I started really to care about them. Agatha is strong-willed and stubborn and she puts Simon in a lot of impossible situations - I had to laugh out loud quite often. The love scenes are also very well described, the lovestory is believable and well written. This is an unique, exciting and thrilling read which I can highly recommend!
